Eating more than the surgeon recommends

@Dub Throughout history there have been no big developments without the presence of the fairer sex. I'm all about some female intuition and guidance. Without this there can be no progress. HAHA LOVE THIS!!! It is true both ways. And does anyone know the "rules" on the "men" only and "woman" only or where to find them? I am not really a rule follower in general but I do want to be sensitive to people's emotional well being and don't want to offend anyone. CHEERS!

Eating more than the surgeon recommends

@@Dub SO I don't know the rules on "men only" are we allowed to crash the party and ask questions?! Anyways, you mentioned drinking...my BF and I like to go out and have appetizers and drink. Every class at Kaiser says you CAN NOT drink...I don't drink often but there are times when we like to go to Hollywood, and sit on sunset and people watch a drink a few. Is this still possible? I am leaning towards the RNY, and will have surgery in April.

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

I've done all the researcher. I didn't mean for this to turn into an argument. What I want is actual stories of WHY YOU choose your particular surgery. Or choosing the one you're having. It's a completely personal decision. One is not better. It's a matter of what is best for you. And I am merely wanting to know what led you to choose your surgery. I've researched for years, I know the statistics but what I don't know is personal stories as to why. Did you talk to somebody? Did something stand out? Did you read something that made the choice easier? I appreciate all your input but I think it's gonna a little off topic. And I would like to get back to personal testimony and not so much at pointing fingers because someone has interpreted something. You all are amazing. And have been so helpful. If anyone wants to add why they choose the surgery they did I would love to hear it. Thanks!!

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

Thank you for clarifying. My surgeon has said I can choose either surgery and I have been under for 8+ hour surgeries where they stop my heart. So I'm not real concerned about the surgery. They are more concerned with recovery and blood clots because of a blood clotting disorder but I'll be on blood thinners for a while after with either one. I am loving all the input!

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

@@QueenLoser Thank you for your honest input. All of my doctors say "they are not sure" mostly because of my heart condition and the future is unknown, most agree on that I do need the surgery to avoid a heart transplant. And I am leaning towards the gastric because I LOVE sweets, and also it is some what reversible if for some reason with my heart it needed to be reversed. (God Forbid) I really am looking for exactly what you gave me, why you choose one or the other and personal stories as to why one was chosen over the other. I am the "exception" to every rule and really the doctors are unsure as to which one to choose. I have kaiser and go through 8 weeks of classes, and they are having to send me outside of kaiser to even have a Dr, and hospital that is capable of doing the surgery. I will talk with him more also, once I finish the classes. Thank you for your input.

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

You're welcome! I'm working towards goal. I started at a size 20 (tight) and I just got a 14! My bypass was 12/29. Can't wait to be a size 8 either lol. I can't even imagine...I have always been the "big" girl. So thinking I may someday be in the normal clothes range and sharing with friends, blows my mind. Congrats!

Thanks for all the replies. Great info! And Congrats to those of you who are at goal, and almost there! I am a size 20, I can't even imagine being a 12/14...so size 8 just sounds crazy! LOL My highest size was a 26/28
  10. For those of you who had a big butt before surgery...did all of your butt go away? That is the one thing I do like about my body, I was blessed with a nice butt. LOL I wouldn't mind losing a little of it, but I don't want it all to go away. I know it's a silly question, but one I keep thinking about...lol Stacy

    Just introducing myself

Almond I don't know how to tag you. I had two options for my classes. When I called they had one starting the next week in OC, then they had one starting in LA the following month. I don't know if it was luck or if they have more classes in OC. I started just before Christmas. So with the holidays I know the scheduling was a little messed up.
  12. I have the option to work at home. When my daughter was in preschool through kindergarten, I worked from home. 1st grade I went back to the office. Working from home can be very lonely. In 1st grade I would work sometimes from home, but by 2nd grade I was in the office full time. My doctor changed my meds this week and I didn't feel well. I was going to work from home today and ended going into the office. I like the social interaction. I think it's a personal choice. But working from home isn't always so wonderful. It can get very lonely and boring...

I'm just starting options. At the orientation they said it's taking anywhere from 1-3 weeks after the last class, but that's Southern California. It's different for the different Kaiser regions.

    Struggling with pre op diet

Oh. I'm not sure about those. I lived on protein bars and shakes to lose a ton of weight naturally. Muscle Milk isn't too bad. It's pre made. I know there is un flavored protein powder that can be added to any liquid. I think you can get it at any nutrition store. I use ViSalus protein powder and it's really good but not sold in stores. I found the bars that are geared towards men and body building are gross. The ones heard towards woman in cute packages are better. LoL!

Try think thin bars. The mint one taste like thin mints. Also Lenny and Larrys cookies taste good. Both are protein bars that don't taste like protein bars. I get them at 7-11.

Old bestfriend Is back, and hes married..

My best friend saved my life. Because of him I lost over 100 lbs, I was in an awful relationship and eating myself to death. He was also married, once I started "dating" he got weird. He was in my life for a season and a reason. I still miss him at times, but after I moved on I was happier. He is still on my instagram, and I follow him. We don't comment or "like" each others post. I think we both realized we loved each other because we helped each other through some incredibly hard times, but there is a point you have to love them from afar. My current SO, I would have never met or had the courage to even speak to if it wasn't for him. And he is a man he truly loves me and adores me. My ex BFF, I enameled him and thanked him for all the good things he brought into my life and I wished him well. He is still slightly upset, and I think feels like he was "dumped" but it was never a physically intimate relationship. Saying Goodbye will do you a world of good, but you will have a little heart break and he will always have a little piece of your heart.

    Significant Other Support

I won't have surgery until April due to getting a specialized surgical team together because I was born with a heart defect. My SO, is terrified. I have been through many heart surgeries, and have done fine. I didn't realize how scared he was until he broke down crying. It is not fun seeing a 6'4 260 lb man cry. We are supporting each other through this. I think the main difference is I have had my cardiac surgeons for 20 years, and he feels like I am great hands with them. They are leading the "team" to get all docs together who will do the surgery but they won't be there. Cardio's have no worries, and are excited for me to have the surgery because I have put in a lot of work to get to the point to where my heart is strong enough to have the surgery. I didn't realize what an emotional toll it takes on the SO. He is very supportive, and is happy I can now have the surgery. At one point they told me I couldn't have it because of a medication, and I was so upset and crying and he was slightly relieved. Then they found a work around, so I can take another med. I find at times, I am supporting him more, but I have been having surgeries and procedures my whole life, none of which were elective. It was we do this or you die...he is having a hard time. And we have set a date for friday to sit down, and discuss things because of the emotional toll it is taking on both of us. It is a roller coaster ride, and your SO is very lucky to have someone care so much and want to be so supportive. I am also lucky because he is really trying to be supportive, and he is asking questions and really trying his best and I think that is all we can ask of our SO, because it is a journey and a lot of times, they are scared for us even though they know it is a live saving procedure we are still "electing" to have it done.

That's awesome. I have to have a whole cardiac team, my cardio emailed me this morning....they are working on it. So I won't be able to be on a cancellation list, they will have to schedule it, but since I haven't gotten too far into classes I am hoping they will get it all together right around the time I finish options. Praying for your friend!

    Butt Question...

Do either of you workout? I workout twice a day, weightlifting. And do a million squats. I have for the last 3 years, I can't do cardio because I was born with a heart defect. And every time they have to "fix" my heart I gain weight because I am in bed for months. So after I have lost over 100 naturally and then gained 40 back, and just can't get it off again my cardio's think it's the right time for this surgery. I have been wanting it for years, and they kept saying no. Has anyone worked out and do you think that helps with excess skin and keeping the butt plump and high?

    Just introducing myself

What Dr are you seeing? I saw Dr. Zelada last week. I have not done options yet. I have to have a medical clearance due to a congenital heart defect. I am waiting for the anesthesiology department to give me clearance. I start options on the 7th in OC. I want to do the bypass, but I take aspirin everyday so Dr. is wanting me to lean towards the sleeve or change from my cardiac aspirin regimen to something that doesn't cause ulcers. I hope everything goes well. Stacy
