  1. Has anyone recently gone through the options classes in OC or LA. I am in OC< but will have my surgery in LA so I am closer to my cardio's at sunset. They don't do any bariatric surgery at sunset, so next best choice in West LA. I have only had heart surgeries, and the cardiac ward is awful. How is the recovery rooms at West LA, the surgery/recovery doesn't worry me. My biggest concern is the rooms at West LA. My cardio's always get me the best rooms, for being a cardiac patient. I won't have my doctors at West LA, so I won't have them making arrangements for me. Since I am considered "high risk", they have referred me to Zelada even before classes to make sure he is ok with the surgery and they can get a team together to monitor my cardiac condition. I see him this week. Thanks in advance for any info! Stacy PS when i search, there is no new info.

    Kaiser West LA Dr. Zelada

I ended up having to go to San Diego due to my congenital heart defect. Zelda is an awesome Dr and he worked with my pediatric and adult cardiologist to find me a Dr with facilities who could perform my RNY. I'm 14 weeks out and doing well. I have PCOS. My periods returned with in weeks and have been normal. They are on time and only last for 4 days. That in it self is pretty unbelievable.

    14 weeks out RNY

Hi! I've lost 60 pounds in the first 12 weeks. The last two weeks I have not lost anything I go up 2 pounds and down 1, then up 3 and down 2. Has this happened to anyone else? I can't exercise yet because I am so dehydrated. They are doing a scope next week because I can't eat much still and can't drink a lot. Thanks!

Ya. I'm just wondering how long stalls last. [emoji38]
  6. I know this is discussed all the time but I want some input. And I get it's personal up to me and all that stuff. Here is my thing, I will have ONE chance at this. Due to a heart condition I was born with it's a miracle I am even being approved to get it done, and found a surgeon who will do the surgery. I am thinking I want the bypass because it seems to have a little better success rate, but with the sleeve they take part of the stomach and the hormone (supposedly?) that controls hunger. So after the bypass are you still hungry? I can't exercise a lot because of my heart, and by that I mean not a lot of cardio. I do go to the gym everyday and do circuit training with breaks, and when I am motivated I go twice a day....I just can't do tons of cardio and take breaks. So any input would be great! Thanks!! Stacy
  7. I haven't had a period since December. I had RNY 3 weeks ago and just started my period, did anyone else's start back this soon?! And was it normal?!

    May bypass group!

I'm so glad I don't have a strict pre op diet. I have lost about 6 lbs in 1 1/2 weeks just not eating bread, rice and pasta. That's all my dr requires.
  9. I think everyone has said every piece of advice you could ever need! This site is great. I have a HUGE amount of support but sometimes that still is not enough. This is a journey that only those who have gone through it truly understand and sometimes this forum has been better then having support. Our "support people" don't always know how to support us or know what to say. This group will get you through this. If you're having trouble just post. Even if it's just help now! It will get your mind off food and people to talk to that truly understand your struggle. You got this!! [emoji8][emoji178]

    Support Person

I think sometimes we are, our best support people even though we don't know each other personally, we truly know what it's like.

    Support Person

Well my SO has been an amazing support until surgery was scheduled. Now he's freaking out. I do have other health risk I was born with that is a huge concern and I know he's just worried. He is still a great support until he starts to think about recovery and surgery. He's been through heart surgeries with me and knows how hard it can be. He's excited for me but it is really hard on our "support people". He told me the other day he just wishes he could fix me. He would give anything to not have to watch me go through all my health issues and multiple surgeries. He's super easy going and I never really thought any of it bothered him until surgery was scheduled (May 4th) and he had a few beers and he told me how hard all of it is on him. Then felt bad for telling me. So yes thank your support people. It is hard on them...really hard.

    I have lots of questions...

If you're driving to Mexico the 2 is closed at the border. If you're just going to Tijuana you'll be fine, if not make sure you know where you're going. To get to Rosarito it's a little more difficult right now. And be prepared for traffic getting into Mexico. (Usually there is only traffic coming out). We have a dentist that my SO goes to. It's so much less then the states. They speak perfect English and the offices are all just like ours. We live in So Cal, so we go down often. Good luck with all your surgeries.
  14. My surgery date is May 4th also! May the 4th be with you! [emoji12]
  15. Bypass they do specifically to cure diabetes. PCOS is a metabolic/insulin type issue. Usually just losing weight cures it. If you have diabetes in the family. Bypass is a good option but it has to be the insulin resistant one. I'm not sure if that's type 1 or type 2. [emoji16]
  16. I'm doing the bypass because I like sweets. May need a heart transplant due to a condition I was born with, and the Drs. Think I will have the best outcome and can still manage a transplant if needed. They don't want me going through two surgeries, it's very hard on your body. I love sweets and I know that. If I liked plates of food, I may have considered the sleeve... Surgery 5/4/16

    Xanax

Thank you! This should be interesting, pain meds keep me awake for days. If I take Xanax I can sleep. So I may be a zombie for a little bit. [emoji15]

    Xanax

Does anyone take Xanax and does it still work after RNY? I take it at night for insomnia and sometimes, although rarely during the day if I'm really stressed.

    A Beef about my Surgeon

Well, here is the thing...if you are "model" patient with no complications, you probably won't see much of your surgeon. And this is with any type of surgery. I have had MANY heart surgeries. I see my surgeon before surgery, and day of surgery. And then after I rarely see him. I see my "managing cardiologist". I do have my surgeons direct email, and direct number. Surgeons are surgeons, they rarely do follow ups in most fields unless there is a problem. With my heart, I have a whole team of cardiologist and cardiac surgeons. I see them ALL day of surgery, they all check me out, and see maybe one surgeon after in the hospital. My bariatric surgeon said he will see me after because I am "high risk" and he needs to monitor me, but usually I would just be followed by someone in his office. So don't take it personally or that he is not a good surgeon, but they have people that are much better at followup and can give you the time you need, and also the Drs, who do the follow up that is their job and what they do every day, so they re much better at the follow up then the actual surgeon. Just my two cents, and I have been having surgery since I was 5 months old.
  23. ok, so I have read about the chicken broth that has Protein in it. And unflavored Protein powder. What are the best kinds? And what else were MUST HAVES after surgery. I need to order stuff, surgery is in 2 weeks! Thanks!!
