  1. If so, how? The past couple of days, I've had two weddings and my husband took us out to Breakfast after church. I'm on purees, so I can have mashed potatoes, steamed carrots (could be smashed with a fork, so the nurse said it was okay). I've had these foods at the weddings, some small ravioli, rice and when we went out to breakfast today, I ordered 2 scrambled egg beaters with potatoes and was sure to eat half the eggs, a couple of forks of potatoes (after I mashed them with a fork), and one piece of wheat toast and took the rest home for dinner. My question is--NOTHING is bothering me, I don't have to chew anything to the point of it being pulvarized (LOL), but I also don't have a measuring cup with me, so I'm not sure if I'm eating more than a cup or not (just using my judgment because I don't want to bring my measuring cup with me to formal affairs). I have to stop myself because I don't get that full feeling, although my tummy's not grumbling anymore. I know it's BAD if I get to the point where I feel I've eaten too much, so I don't want to ever go there. My question is--if my sight measurements are off and I am in fact eating over a cup, would I know if I stretched my pouch? If so, what does it feel like? I just don't want to go in for my first fill (which my doc does under fluoroscopy) and find out I've stretched my pouch.... I swear I don't really have a band. I just have a port that i can feel and four scars. I'm not trying to brag, but I can eat bread, Pasta and rice already and nothing is giving me an issue. Will it change eventually? Sorry for all the questions. I really do want this to work, I mean I'm getting all my Protein, putting that first, but wanted to see if there was any kind of feeling that indicates a stretched pouch. Sorry for the novel!
  2. So I am attending a class where they provide meals and I of course didn't tell anyone about being banded, so I don't have my measuring cup with me. For lunch, they served sandwiches of course, but I just pulled the turkey out and had that (and stayed away from the chips and cookie, thank you!). My question is for something like turkey, am I going by 8 ounce weight or actual cup? Sorry for all the questions but I'm paranoid about stretching my pouch. I am stopping myself when I think I"ve hit my max allowance and I don't know what feeling full is like since I am pre-fill. Help!
  3. Okay I am bad at this- I am attending a class where they provide lunch. So of course they had sanswiches today, so I just pulled out the turkey and ate it. Only thing is I don't carry a cup or scale with me. Also with a solid like turkey, do I measure 8 oz or 1 cup? Sorry for all these questions but I am so paranoid about stretching my band :-(
  4. OMG I am SOOOO like that! I have heard the hungry feeling means we're healing, so hopefully it's a sign of good things! I actually am wondering if there really is a band in there--I have had pasta , wheat toast and rice this weekend and nothing bothered me at all. My biggest fear is stretching my pouch right now. I mean, I'm not going to bring a measuring cup with me to formal events, so I stop myself when I think I've eaten a cup, but I could definitely keep going. I don't even have issues with not chewing food well enough. What the heck is that about anyway?!? LOL

    I hope you're doing well!!!

Can you tell if you stretched your pouch?

Thanks for the info! The funny thing is, I have lost quite a bit of weight--more than I expected. Pre-op I was 214, I weighed in this morning at 195!!! Not too shabby--I'll take it, especially since the scale was stuck for awhile there! I just can't wait to exercise LOL! I totally agree about making healthier choices. My nutrionist actually put me on a 1500 calorie/42 fat gram per day diet and I lost 20 lbs pre-op!! I really learned the best way to eat during that time and journaling was so great for me that I'm still doing it now. Thanks again for the info!!!

    Hello

Congratulations!!! Welcome to your new life! This board is such a great resource when you have questions no matter how random they seem. I always manage to get answers..these people are amazing! It sounds like you've already gotten some good advice.....Gas X strips and walking were the key to getting rid of that awful feeling. Truth be told, because of those two things, I only had that pain for two days! Good luck on your journey!

    Popcorn???

Okay, so I'm dreaming of the day when I'll be off mushies... Anyway, I go to soft next Wednesday (progress, I'll take it) and my friend and I are going to see New Moon on Friday night. Would it kill me to have some popcorn at the movies? I know they say corn can be an issue even when you're on solid food, but I wanted to know if anyone has tried it. I'm not looking to house a large popcorn or anything like that and hate butter, but just wanted to get the thoughts of you guys since this board knows all!!! Thanks!
  8. Wow, I feel like I'm constantly asking questions on a daily basis, but everyone is so helpful I feel like no matter what I ask, someone out there can help (so thank you all!:tongue_smilie:) I just found out that I need to go on a business trip during the first week of December. The good news is that I'll be on my regular solid diet at that time. The bad news is it will be my first week on this lifetime diet and I will be adjusting to exactly what that is after being on liquids, purees and soft up until then. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should plan on bringing for the flight and what I should get for those oh-so stuffy business dinners that I will surely get roped into with clients? I'm not so worried about them knowing that I have the band, but I'm very worried about eating something that I shouldn't be (although I guess if I'm that unsure, I should just order Soup LOL)! Thanks for any advice!!!
  9. Hang in there, hon. You're doing great! I too have completely stopped losing. I had my surgery the day before yours as you know, band buddy I've lost 15 since surgery--nothing since and I'm on 600 calories per day (mushies). My belly growls constantly. I heard somewhere that means I'm healing which is great, but I don't see the doc to determine whether or not I need a fill on 12/8 (it was November 30, but moved twice because of work commitments....grrrr). Hang in there. We will get through this and start losing again!!!

    Water!!

How much water are you supposed to drink everyday? Doc told me between 64 and 96 ounces (ugh) How much do you drink per day? about 66 to 80 (ugh) Any ideas or clues on how to get it all in? Crystal light raspberry lemonade flavor. I have a 33 oz bottle at my desk at work and as long as I get through one in the a.m. and one in the p.m., I'm set for the day. I have a decaf tea in there which adds 8 oz a cup, so somehow I manage. When I'm not at work, that's another story. Do you think it helps with moving the weight loss along? That's what they say, but I have no clue. I had my surgery 10/21 and have lost 15 lbs since. Not sure if water has anything to do with it. How important do you think getting the water in is? Again, I go by what the doc tells me. I've never EVER been a water drinker, I just haven't wanted to drink it in the past, but I've learned from this whole process that a lot of things I did in the past contributed to me getting the way I did and for that, a need for ignificant change was in order.....
  11. Hi there, Dawn. I saw you were banded on October 23. I got mine on 10/21. To date, I've lost 15 lbs, which I know I should be happy with because we're still healing, but holy crap, how in the world did you lose 30+ LBS since surgery!!! That's amazing, congrats! I'm from NJ too (South Jersey) --who did your surgery? Dr Goldstein out of Voorhees did mine and I must say he's freaking great!

Good luck on your continued successs!!! Glad to have someone else that's on the same time frame as me!!!

  12. Hi there, I'm currently on pureed foods until 11/18 when I advance to soft. I wanted to get your thoughts on Peanut Butter. It's not on any of my sample diet plans/lists, but I had some mixed with a little jelly yesterday and it really filled me up. Nothing got stuck or disagreed with me, but I wanted to see if anyone was told that they should stay away from this until we advance further in our diets.
  13. juliansmom2003

    Yeah I did it!!!

Congrats to you both!!!! Lots of luck to you as you continue your journey!

    Christmas Weightloss Challenge

Count me in. I just had surgery on 10/21, so hopefully I can maintain my 1 to 2 lbs lost per week until I get to my fill in December. If I can lose 15 to 20 by Christmas, I'll be sooo happy!!!

    Hello Onderland!!!!

Congrats! I just hit it too on Wednesday! I cannot even believe it ! I think I cried for about 20 minutes, since I haven't seen that side of 200 lbs in 7 years!!! Keep up the great work!!!

    Baby Steps

Well, I've been researching this surgery for a few months now and have finally accepted it has become a necessity. With my kids being so young, I want to do something now so when they get older, they won't be teased about having a fat mom. The prospect of having this surgery has brought me unbelievable hope. My doctor agrees with my decision and will provide her approval for insurance to cover the surgery, and I have a tremendous supporter in my mom. I just wish my husband agreed with this. While he is supportive of whatever my ultimate decision is, he feels that I don't need to do this and he loves me exactly the way I am right now. Well and good, but I don't love me the way I am right now..... Let the journey begin....:w00t:
  17. I know I'm just a 'band baby' LOL, but would love to know what a fill feels like (even though I'm not due to have one until the middle of December). I do know my doc does it under fluoroscopy at the hospital so he can see what he's doing (which is comforting), but I'm not sure what to expect. What's weird now is I can feel my port now from the outside if I touch my belly. VERY odd at first, but I guess I'll get used to it.

    5 Reasons

I think everyone has covered all the points, but my personal five reasons for choosing the band are: It's reversible It's adjustable-- so if my stomach shrinks, I can get the band tightened Lower mortality rate Statistics show higher success rate for bandsters, whereas some bypass patients gain weight back There is no rerouting of my pipes---everything is exactly the same inside (except I have a little accessory to help me LOL)--bypass is major surgery And the bonus#6--dumping. Can't bring my self to be punished for making bad choices. I want to have the control over what I eat, when I eat and how--I just needed a little tool to help me control how much. Hope this helps!!!

    How long did it take?

I can't tell you how many times I asked this question. Honestly, I just wanted to GET THERE already!!! Every office is different, as well as surgeon/insurance requirements for the surgery to be covered. I attended my seminar on 7/2, had my first appointment with the surgeon on 7/10 (got WAY lucky, as he had a cancellation), insurance approved me on 9/24 and I got banded on 10/21. My surgeon was actually booking end of November/beginning of December, but they canceled someone's surgery for not losing the weight they were required to, so I was blessed to get in a month earlier. The thing that stunk is that they will not schedule that surgery until you have insurance approval. When you say your insurance approved you prior to the seminar, is that an approval letter or a pre-authorization that they will cover it pending a waiting period? I know for mine, I had to do a barium swallow/pulmonology clearance, EKG, sleep apnea test, psych clearance, and complete a 3-month supervised support/nutrition program (along with losing 10 lbs) before they would even submit everything to insurance for approval (and from what they told me, my insurance is the easiest to get approval for this procedure). If you go self-pay, that is a whole other issue, as I think most of the red tape isn't as bad and you're able to get in a little sooner. I hope this helps! Lots of luck to you!!

    Mushies diet?? Calorie Intake??

Well, according to the program and diet plan my group has put me on, the pureed stage should be about 600 calories, 13 grams of fat and 60 grams of Protein. Then, soft, which is about 700 calories, 18 grams of fat and 70 grams of protein. Lifetime is then 800-1000 calories per day, 24 grams of fat, and 70-75 grams of protein per day. Every program is different, but this is the progression they've put me on, and I've lost 13 lbs since my surgery 2 weeks ago. Some may be 'eating' a little differently right now, and I'm not saying there is a right or wrong way to do it, but I'm sticking with this since it's working for me LOL!!
  21. I am SO glad someone posted about this! I ordered this 'Slim in 6' DVD which is low impact high resistance to specifically work on my stomach (as my hubby will not be too happy if I go back in for another surgery to get a tummy tuck). After seeing this thread yesterday, I asked my nurse/case worker about this and she said once we're cleared for surgery, I can do crunches and things to tighten the abs without affecting my port. The thing is I can actually feel my port when I know I've done too much walking and it aches a bit. Not only that, I can actually feel it if I touch my belly now and even though they're telling me it's okay after my doc gives me the clearance to start exercising again, I am kind of worried what might happen if I start working my stomach.
  22. Hi there! I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the private messaging feature, so apologies for just responding now. Things are going well. I weighed in last night at 199.8 (OMG, I haven't seen this site of 200 in 6 years!!!) I had my surgery on 10/21, so total lost since then is 13.2 lbs. I've been told that's "atypical", so I'm expecting not to be losing much more in the coming weeks until my first fill which won't be probably won't be until mid to late December. Maybe Santa can bring me my first fill for Christmas LOL!

How are you feeling? Are you back to work? This freaking puree stage is killing me, but I think a couple of great friends on here that are going through this at the same time will get us all through.

Thanks for adding me to your friends list!!!!

  23. When does bandster hell start? I think I may be in it at times, but not sure.... I'm almost 2 weeks post op, so I'm sure it's rearing its ugly head and I don't have my next appt with the surgeon until 12/4 when I'll be able to tell him whether or not I'm satisfied on solids and if not, then he'll schedule a fill. I know I've stopped losing weight due to my body being in starvation mode, so I am impatient that I will have to wait longer to lose more! Starting to get nervous if this will work or not. Thanks for any insight into this.
