  1. Sorry I've been gone so long, guys. I have really been having a tough week this week. Of course, I am getting tons of freaking cardio and stuff in, but the scale isn't moving! I do find it interesting that I am now miraculously able to eat bread and am hungry every 1.5 to 2 hours after eating. THANK GOD I have an appointment for a fill next week (one week from today to be exact). How frustrating! I haven't felt hopeless like this in awhile, and I should be freaking happy as hell--I'm 20 lbs away from goal! I'm such a freaking whiner, I know. I think I've caught up, but apologizing in advance if I forgot anyone. Leigha--my girl. You just continue to amaze me. You are just an inspiration with your weight loss, nsvs and general outlook altogether. I always enjoy reading your posts. Congrats on your additional loss and not being able to get that shovel down all the way, Miss Skinny Butt Amy--25 lbs post op? Awesome! So sorry you had a sliming issue. I must say those aren't fun. I haven't had one in almost 2 weeks, which to me is just another indicator that I need a fill LOL HB--Congrats on getting to a M. HUGE nsv! Doing the happy dance in your honor! Bobbie- #@$!% What a jerk! I am glad you're able to get some assistance. I'm praying that you find something soon WITH benefits and a decent boss!!!! ((HUGS)) Cocoa-- How are you feeling? Glad you were able to get a workout in by taking a shower. You poor thing. I hope you're okay. Betsy--I've seen you around on the board, but wanted to check in and see how Mark is doing? My prayers have been with you this whole time, sister! Anne--1 pound! Nothing to sneeze at, since we're working hard at each one. Throw a 1 lb loss my way, chica ! Stacie--I completely understand how you feel about work-induced anxiety. It's all around me too (and some days even my Zoloft isn't even enough LOL) Hang in there! Hoping time flies so you can get in to see your PCP. Christie-- Yeah! Under 250! Woooohoooo! That's so awesome!! I bet you're so psyched! You will be in onederland before you know it. Congrats! Bob- I'm convinced that farmville has literally sucked you into the vortex and you're happily living there with your animals and plants (or whatever the heck else you're farming LOL--can you tell I don't play?) Hope everyone is doing well. I'll take whatever hope you guys can give me that after my fill next week, I'll be on track because, even though I'm going home to do my cardio and fat burning stuff, I am going to have me a big fat slice of pizza tomorrow night with the kids! Sad thing is, I'll be able to get it down and still be hungry :-(! Me, miss poster child for cheese sticks and protein pudding :-( I am going with tomorrow is a new weekbecause each day this week has been horrible. Thanks for letting me vent, guys and for letting me be a part of this thread. I am so happy to read everything you share on here. Blessings and continued success to all of you!

    100lbs gone!!

Congratulations on your amazing milestone! I really needed to see this today because I am about 20 lbs from goal and just feel like it's never going to happen, so thanks for sharing this wonderful news with us! Lots of luck on the last phase of the weight loss and going into maintenance mode!!!
  3. It seems that like everyone else, I've identified an obsession....not one with sizes or scales, but with restriction! I know that we are all different and that a lot of us don't have consistency in restriction during the day to day (and SOOO do not want to risk ever being overfilled), but I am feeling completely clueless yet again about this restriction thing. So, a couple of weeks ago, I posted that I was really ravenous between meals and I could see my portion sizes were growing (although I was having some stuck episodes, which I really think were due to me just being a bonehead and eating too fast). Luckily, I was able to get a fill appointment for 4/22. Since then, I have been going back and forth on whether or not I should keep the appointment because some days I definitely feel restricted, but most I see that I'm able to eat bigger bites (not that I tried on purpose, but am a bonehead sometimes) and I am hungrier than usual a lot sooner than I should be (and I am getting in 100 grams of Protein a day on average). I was actually able to eat a slice of Papa John's with bacon and green peppers last night with not a single issue (did circuit training last night, so believe me I worked it off LOL), but the week before, I couldn't keep a single bite of a thin crust pizza slice (bad having pizza 2 weeks in a row, but I am sooo not able to get the calories in some days the way I work out) My doc does his fills under fluoro, so he won't give me a fill if I already "look" restricted, but the thing is what am I going for here? I am about 20 to 30 lbs away from goal, so do I want to be tighter and risk not being able to eat bread, Pasta and rice like I am now? The thing is, a cup of food does NOT satisfy me (never has), so is it bad to eat a 10 ounce meal if I don't have that restriction? Some say if you don't get that chest pain or physical warning that you're full, you can't stretch your pouch, but I'm not one to take chances. I just don't want to be hungry all the time and it seems that is where I'm close to again. Sorry for the novel. As you can tell I'm still very back and forth if I should get any more put in. Any thoughts or advice as to what you'd do? Signed, The never satisfied whiner

    Most Helpful Hints

Good thread, Drasan. Mine would be PROTEIN!!!!! I try to take in at least 70 grams per day and everything I take in (except water) has protein in it. If I do want to 'splurge', I'll have a 100 calorie pack or something occasionally.
  5. See that was my question. I am totally fine eating 8 to 10 ounces, as I am losing at the perfect rate for me, but based on lots of the posts I've seen, I have been reading it's too much so I don't want to stretch my pouch. Wanted to do a reality check to make sure I'm not expecting too much of my band (to be full on 1/2 cup and that little amount to hold me 4 hours). As long as I'm not hurting anything by having 8 to 10 ounces (not all the time, as I find I am different on different days), but knowing I have that option without causing any long-term damage to my band, I'm cool with that.

    Looking for Support...

Not at all. Actually, I hate to say this, but you will experience many plateaus throughout this journey. Keep in mind that you are taking a lot less calories in and your body learns to expect this and reacts by holding onto calories (starvation mode). You can trick it by fluctuating (i.e. 800 one day, 1000 the next) and it should help to jump start your metabolism (that's what works for me). Be sure if you're exercising to figure that in, as you need to be sure you're getting enough calories in that your body isn't sliding into starvation mode. Hope I wasn't too confusing LOL

    Are fills really necessary?

I think you might get a couple of different insights on this, but I was told that a big part of a successful lap band journey included maintenance, which is getting your fills. While you certainly can lose weight following the lap band eating lifestlye, you might have constant hunger issues and suffering is not what this should be about at all. A lot of times, the vomiting issues can be contributed to the band being filled too fast with aggressive fills or not slowing down while eating or taking bites that are too large and not chewing enough to go down without incident. Does your doc do fills under fluoro (radiology/xray so the doc is able to actually see the level of restriction and therefore highly unlikely to overfill you) or does he/she just go with a set amount? That is definitely something I would ask, as it effects your experience. Short answer--your success rate will be much greater and you will be a lot happier if you maintain your band and get the necessary adjustments to ensure its success. Hope this helps!

    The Big 2-5

Yeah! Congrats and GREAT JOB! Keep it up :-)!

    is it normal?

Not sure about the kidney pain you are experiencing, but I can definitely relate to the issues with being tired. Your body has just gone through so much with having surgery and needs to recuperate. It is completely normal to be tired and you need to listen to your body during this time and get as much rest in as possible (keeping in mind that walking is excellent too when you can manage to get that in). You will notice that you will have more energy in the coming days and weeks as your body heals. Hopefully someone can provide some info on the kidney pains you're experiencing, as that is something I didn't experience.

    I got on the scale....

Hi there, In the beginning, you will be up and down. You are right in that you took in a lot of fluids during surgery with the IV. You will definitely fluctuate in the beginning. I got on the scale quite a bit too and while you shouldn't worry about it in these first few weeks post-op, I know it's easier said than done. Just make sure you are telling yourself that it's not really about losing weight at this stage, but rather your body healing from the trauma of the surgery. Hang in there! It's perfectly normal :-)!

Just did a self fill wow feel awesome

I just wish someone would delete this thread. There is absolutely nothing positive that will come of it. Now, we're on to name calling...what next? This is not in any way supportive or helpful to anyone and I hope that it is gone soon. Ridiculous.
  15. I agree, Jacki. It can be a fad for some, but I am 6 months post op. The one time I've done it I was very happy. It may not be good for new bandsters to do for fear of starting bad habits, but it's definitely something that helped me get from my first fill to the second....
  16. No I don't work for the company. I heard about this on this site a couple of months ago, tried it and it worked for me. If you click on the link in the previous post, it will take you to the site that lists what you need to eat on each of the 5 days. It may not be for everyone, but I found it did work for me and I no longer wanted to snack and it curbed my cravings.

    A horrible night...

Sorry you're going through this. It is good that the Water is staying down. Did you eat anything out of the ordinary? Perhaps you have a touch of food poisoning? Have you had any recent fills? I hope you are feeling better as I'm typing this.
  18. ((HUGS)) Bobbie. I'm sorry to hear the interview ended up not being an interview :smile2:. I can't imagine how you must feel right now. Did I make the right decision?

Honestly, what you're feeling is completely normal. I think all of us had that though at one time or another in the beginning! Give yourself some time to heal and get back to 'norma'--trust me, you will be very happy with your decision. I asked myself for the first month if I did the right thing and believe me.....I DID :-)! Congrats on being banded and hang in there! You will be very happy once you get past this initial phase!!

Good luck, Whillow. Hope this next one gets you to the sweet spot. You are still doing amazing!!!
