  1. good luck to you! i think i'm doing ok most of the time. there really isn't any need to be nervous. of course there are risks as with any surgery, but it'll be so worth it. your new birthday and the first day of the rest of your life. it's not as hard as it sounds. when you think about it, all you have to keep saying to yourself is that being healthy is going to look and feel so much better than any of that other stuff ever tasted. keep me posted.

  2. I'm 28 years old and just got banded on the 16th, four days ago. One of the best things I've ever done. There was a little bit of pain and discomfort and I'm still going through that, but the worst is the gas pain. It seemed to settle in my shoulders and neck the most. Now at four days post op most of it is gone, but it still hurts a little to hiccup. I was a "single incision" patient. Meaning they went in through my belly button of course, and then one other incision. The other incision is less than 1 cenitmeter wide. It's a little tiny thing. The one through the belly button is a little larger and kinda hurts if I sit too much during the day. I have to lay down and stretch out in order to keep that from hurting so much. I didn't get the liquid pain meds, I got regular pills. Make sure you get up and walk after surgery. It's going to help heaps. Something to keep in the front of your mind is that everyone handles this differently. My mom got banded on the same day I did, same doc and everything and she's having a really rough time and in a lot of pain. I'm doing great. Could probably go back to work at this point, but I'm on vacation so why look a gift horse in the mouth right? lol Please write me if you have any more questions. I'd be happy to help with whatever I can. Hope this helps.

    Discovering Food Websites

Today has been an interesting day. I'm now four days post op and the gas pains have finally started to subside a little. Still hurts like the dickens if I get the hiccups though. On the upside.......wait for it......FIREWORKS SEASON IS UPON US, THE STORES OPENED TODAY! Fourth of July and Halloween are huge around my house. My family reunion is next weekend (the 28th) and I can't wait to go there skinnier than I was last year. That's way exciting. And next year I'll actually get to swim, maybe. Haven't been in a swimsuit since high school. You know, back before it looked like I was trying to shove ten pounds of crap in a three pound can. :yikes: Gross and embarrassing. The coffee thing has subsided from yesterday. Thank goodness, can't go without that. My stomach was really upset yesterday I'm sure that had a lot to do with why the coffee tasted gross. So today all I've really done is look for food that I can't eat. :tt2: I know, DUH! :out: However, what I'm going to do is make a book of all the recipies that I like and that way it's easier for me and hubby to make them. I might even try my hand at cooking a few of them on my own. We'll see how that goes. I say that because I'm not a cook by any stretch of the imagination. I have literally burnt water before. And when I do try to make something, hubby looks at me like I'm going to run over a litter of kittens with a tank. :bolt: Well I guess that's all I have for today. Discovered all the new smilies, as if you couldn't tell. Oh well, smilies are cool and liven up the posts. Hope this finds you all well and enjoying bandster life. Talk to you all soon.

    Three Days Post Op

So here I am three days post op and still going strong. My stomach is a little upset today, but other than that I'm doing fine. Discovered something today........I don't like the taste of coffee much anymore. This is such an oddity because I've lived on it for the last few years while trying to get through school. Don't know if it's the meds or just the fact that it tastes different. A lot of people have said things taste much different after surgery. You can't eat stuff you used to be able to, and eat stuff you never would have dreampt of eating before. Kinda confusing if you ask me. Everying else is going great though. Hubby and I got our anniversay present to ourselves today. A new LCD TV (32") from Offide Depot. Which is where hubby works. So we got the sale price of 299.00, pluse our 20% discount on top of that. Might have to breakdown and get cable now. See if I can talk the hubby into that. We'll see. Well, I suppose that's all for today. Talk to you all soon.

    Tomorrow is my anniversary

I know how you feel about the showing love with food thing. My hubby is a chef so he makes all kinds of great stuff to show how much he loves me. Never did say in all the six years we've been together that I need to lose weight or anything of that nature. God bless him. But isn't it funny how we notice how much our lives have revolved around food. Which is part of the mindset that we need to change after surgery. We're going to have to find different ways to show our love other than food as well. If you come up with some zingers let me know. And I'll share ours with you as well. Good luck. It'll be the best decision you ever made for yourself. I promise you that.
  8. She's doing much better. Thanx for asking. I'm kinda nauseous today for some reason, but other than that I'm ok. Getting ready to take the nausea meds right now. See if that helps. Other than that things are going great. My mom was doing so bad cuz she wasn't taking her meds on schedule like she was supposed to. and she has four big insisions so she's going to need to take it easy for a while yet. Well thanx for checking in. Talk to you soon.

  9. i'm actually doing really well. had half a protein shake today and also some water. i was a single incision so i only have one little scar, about 3mm long on my stomach. where they put my iv actually looks worse than my actual incision. it's nice. today i've just kinda laid around. not even taking much pain meds actually. what the doc gave me wasn't working so he fills something else for me that doesn't really work the best either. thank goodness i don't need it i guess. there are really only two pain medications that have ever worked for me and that's dilaudid and darvocet. but he said he can't call those in cuz of the high level of narcotics in it. well that's all i have for right now. just wanted to give you an update.

    Day 2

good for you girl! i got banded the day before you. i live in missouri and had dr de la torre, he's excellent as well. i'm so glad you were able to get the insurance to pay for it. i had be a cash pay. worth every penny though. best 11,000 i've ever spent. at least i'll have something to show for it when i need the cash for something else. i'm on day three post op and not feeling much pain. the third day though is going to be rough i think. usually when i have surgery the third day after is the worst. we'll see though. well, good luck to you and let me know if you need anything.
  11. Just wanting to check in on you since you were banded on the 16th. I actually ended up getting banded that day as well. Was supposed to be the 15th, but my doctor got stuck cuz they closed the highways due to flooding. So I had to have it the day after. Doing great though. How are you doing?

    To My Bandster Family

Thanx so much for all of your support everyone. Got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, the three hour drive home was pretty rough. And to make it worse my hubby was driving and traffic makes him really nervous, and then he gets angry. We live in a smaller town so he doesn't deal with traffic much or very well, must be a guy thing. Everyone said I did great and looked great after surgery. The doc said I was a rock star. :tt1: That made me feel nice. The only thing I've come across that I don't like is my pain meds aren't working. So I called the doc and he called something else for me and my hubby is going to be that up when he gets off work. Unfortunately, my mom isn't doing near as well. They wanted to keep her in the hospital one more night cuz her blood pressure dropped really low. Apparently it always happens when she has surgery. And they had to physcially cut her open cuz she has so much scar tissue on her belly. She's had two c sections and a hysterectomy. (sp) So she was doing pretty crappy. Didn't get up and walk till right before we left yesterday. Well, that's all I have for today, just wanted to let you all know how I was doing. Thanx again for all of your support, you all are awesome and I love you all. *hugs* Talk to you all soon.

    I'm a bandster!

So, it's official. Out of surgery and doing well. In a little pain and my shoulders hurt a little, which is all common. Getting ready to "eat" dinner. Sugar free jello, coffee and grape juice. I feel great! The doctor just left and he said I look great too. Not a terrible amount of pain, but a fair amount. My doctor and this hospital are awesome. Talk with you all soon. Just wanted to give you an update that surgery went great and I was out and about. Gotta get up and walk here a few hours. Have a great day everyone.

    "Weigting" Again

OK, so here I am at the hospital again. However I have heard the doc made it today and there are patiens of his going on and not coming right back out. Excellent sign. Today is my day. My Banster Birthday. I'm so excited. :w00t::w00t::w00t: I can't wait to go to sleep and wake up banded. This is truly the first day of the rest of my life. I know I've said this before, but thank you so much for all of the support I've received from my bandster buddies on this site. You guys rock!:thumbup: Talk to you all soon, after I'm officially a bandster.
  17. Just wanted to drop you a line and see how you were doing. I hope everything went well for you. I actually had a minor setback and not getting banded untill today. We had really bad storms in this area yesterday and the doctor got stranded cuz they closed the interstate. Not good. So we got a room last night and came back this morning. Yesterday was a loooooooong day.

Well anyway. Just wanted to make sure you were doing ok and let you know I was thinking about you. Talk to you later. Good luck. Yesterday was your new Birthday.

    Liquid Diet Torture

I'm on the last day of my liquid diet. Getting banded tomorrow. Was supposed to be today but the doc got stranded due to flooding rain, so it's tomorrow. I was devastated when they told me.:bored: I've been on the liquid diet since the 1st, and it is hard and it does suck. I haven't cheated at all. Not once! I've heard people talk about it and say that they've cheated and were still able to have surgery. I have a good friend that had a steak the night before his and they still did it. Who knows. I do know that I feel a lot better knowing that I didn't cheat at this. It makes me feel even better knowing that I can stick to the strict diet afterwards. Maybe that's why they do it, to make sure we can make the lifestyle changes needed to succeed at this. Just remember, being healthy will feel so much better than all that food would taste anyway. Just keep the heads up everyone. Remember, nothing worth doing is easy.

June 17 But Might Have to Postpone

Just thought I would let you know that's momentarily devastating to have your surgery rescheduled. That happened to me. I live in Missouri and there was a terrible rain storm this morning. I too have driven three hours, boarded my dog, and my husband and I taken time off work. So we get the hospital at our arrival time today (8:00) and sat for about an hour, not too bad. Then the nurse came to get us (my mom is doing this with me) and said the doctor was stranded and couldn't perform the surgery today. :bored::eek::thumbup::eek: TOTAL DEVASTATION! I don't have to worry about insurance or anything of that nature cuz I'm a self pay, but you still work just as hard. Changing your diet and mind set is changing it, no matter who's paying. However, after feeling like curling up and bawling for the better part of the day I now realize that one day isn't going to hurt too much. Just wasn't meant to be for me today.

    Day 3 of Pre-OP diet

I'm on my last day of the pre op diet. Getting banded tomorrow. And the first day of the pre op diet is the hardest. I noticed that too. I had a headache, lathargic, everything else. Then the second day it was like someone flipped a switch. Too weird. Well, good luck to you.

    Tomorrow is the Seminar

I also didn't tell anyone untill the decision was already made. This is something that a lot of people will try to talk you out of since it's considered the "easy way out" or "unnecessary". That's why no one knew about mine untill I'd already decided to do it. I'm getting banded tomorrow and people just found out and some of my family still doesn't know. Keep your head up and let me know how you're doing. We're a family on here. We're your bandster family. Good luck.

    Minor Setback

Thank you so much guys. I really needed that. Right now I'm just hanging out at the hotel relaxing with my hubby and my mom. We just had a friend come by that has been banded and talked with us for a while. He had it in November and has lost 120 pounds. It was great to get more input on what this will be like afterwards from someone else. I can't wait for tomorrow. So I guess tomorrow is my new Birthday. Thank you all for the support and everything else over these last few weeks. Hopefully I'll be talking to you tomorrow as a bandster. Even though I said that this time yesterday. Have a great day my bandster family.

    Minor Setback

Well, remember my last post? I guess I'm waiting longer than I thought I was going to be. The doctor got stranded due to the rain because it closed the highway due to flooding. :mad2: So now I just don't know what I'm going to do. They rescheduled my surgery for tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain then too. I'm very distraught about all this. They said when I called the hospital when I got the hotel that he had to turn around and go home and the highway is still closed. They said they guarantee he'd be there tomorrow. We'll see I guess.
