After struggling with weight, up and down, up and down all my life I decided to see if there was something I could do about it.  I called my insurance company and they said they wouldn't cover it because of corporate exclusion.  Thought I was sunk.  Gave up on trying for a while.  Well, I have a really bad back (three herniated disks in my back and a cist on my neck) that keeps me from doing a lot of things.  My hubby and I were thinking about trying to start a family and my doctor told me that I had to lose at least 100 pounds before I got pregnant or I would be on bed rest all 9 months because of my back.  I think I'm fat now.......whoa nelly!  My parents, who would do absolutely anything for me to this day, even though I'm grown and out of the house decided unbeknownst to me they were going to refinance their house to pay for this surgery for me.  They know this is my last chance to have kids.  They want grandbabies so they did all this and didn't tell me till it was approved and the first appointment with the surgeon was already made.  Because they knew I would tell them not to do it.  Not because I'm ungrateful or didn't want this by any means, but I know they could use that money for something else, like to pay their bills off and finally retire.  Which they both really need to do I think.  Anyway, went to the doc in April, seminar, pre op, psych.....we all know the drill.  Then the surgery was on June 16, 2009.  My new birthday.  It's been an unbelieveable journey.  Everyone is telling me how much healthier and better I look and it feels amazing.  I feel like I'm on top of the world.  Life is only going to better from here.  If you're thinking about getting the band, stop, just do it.  It will be the best decision you've ever had to make.  Even if your insurance won't approve it, if you have the money, do it.  This is the best way to take your health into your own hands and take control of your life.
