    May sleevers

Hi, I'm going on 2 weeks post op and am on pureed foods for next two weeks. I have a challenge coming up on Monday -- my first day back to work. We have a work function at a park with lunch being provided. ANY SUGGESTIONS on what I can do? My coworkers are not privy to my personal business . Thanks!!

    May Sleevers...where are you?

Good Luck!! You'll do great. I had it this past Thursday and have had no pain. I was nauseated, but only periodically for two days. I'm just sooooooooo hungry!! Lol

    May Sleevers...where are you?

Hi everyone!! Just got sleeved on 5/21 and am on Clear liquids (hopefully) until only Thursday's follow up appointment. I am absolutely STARVING!! I have had this constant hunger since the day of surgery. My only problem (besides hunger pains) was nausea for first two days. Other than that -- not much pain. I'm looking forward to moving to puréed foods!!! Any suggestions or recipes?

Anyone have any problems w/ these steri-strips covering the incisions? I've had one fall off (actually, I helped it), but the others are holding tight. Everything I read say they should fall off on their own 7 to 10 days after surgery. I am now 2 weeks out!! WTH??? I go see Dr. Miller for the first time post surgery on Thursday. Also, any suggestions for food on my next stage. I start pureed foods today. :smile2: I plan on mashed potato and grilled chicken for dinner tonight (pureed, of course) and I will take the idea of Wendy's chili; however, my ideas end there. I don't have my post nutrition class until next week. I am sooooooo excited. THANKS!!

Hi Kid, Sorry for the delay in responding to you. I attended the May 17, 2009 informational at Mt. Carmel. I didn't fill out the paperwork right away - - I would say that I didn't put it in the mail for about two weeks after the session. My first appointment w/ Dr. Miller was on June 23, 2009. I believe they cashed my check right away:sneaky: LOL!!! Feel free to quiz me about my experience -- it was sooo easy!! I was totally shocked about how I had no pain or anything.

Kid, Congratulations!! The waiting was a little difficult for me at first, but then I realized that it really wasn't that bad. I went to the seminar in June 2009 and was banded on October 26, 2009. The longest part for me was the sleep study and having to get hooked up w/ the CPAP. My doctor wouldn't approve the surgery until I was on it for 30 days. Don't get discouraged when the office moves slow. I think that she does the best she can w/ all the paperwork and people she is dealing with. Again, congratulations!!!

SpecialK -- Thank you so much for sharing this type of information with us. This is something that I have definately not read about in any of the research material I gathered. I also never heard that there would initially be hunger pains. As a matter of fact, many of the books say that you will not have them. This was NOT head hunger -- I was being jarred awake w/ hunger pains. The morning after my surgery, breakfast was yogurt, tea, skim milk and juice. :scared2: When the resident came in to check on me, I told him that I was hungry and he allowed me to have some oatmeal. I was satisified with only 3 to 4 spoonfuls. This hunger continued for about three days.....I was wanting a sandwich. LOL
  8. Hey kidmeister73,

Congratulations on taking this step - - it will be worth it for you! I was blessed to have my insurance pay pretty much everything, so I am little out of pocket.

I'm almost a week from surgery and I am debating going back to work tomorrow. I was good to go as early as two days out from surgery, but.......

I think I will go see This Is It instead. LOL

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi & congratulations on your start. I got banded on 10/26/2009 by Dr. Miller. Initially, he didn't show much personality or bedside manner. But, that seems to have gotten a little better. I'm sure the more I work w/ him and see him, it will continue to improve. NOW, as a doctor - I would say that he is good. He seems to concentrate on what he is doing and appears to be very knowledgable about his field. I'm glad I chose him! I am almost a week out from my surgery and feel great. I was not put on any restriction for driving, so I was in the car on Wednesday. I was feeling good enough to actually go back to work, but why would I do that? LOL Definitely so far - so good. My worst complaints were the nauseau feeling out of surgery and the current itching of my incisions. GOOD LUCK!!
  10. Had surgery on Monday and was able to come home yesterday. Things went pretty well, but am experiencing serious hunger pains -- anyone else have this problem? They are so bad that they are the ones that wake me up. I keep protein water by my side to sip on.

I'm tripping on this b/c I haven't heard about this before and wasn't prepared for it. The nurse said it may actually be gas???? Whatever it is -- it has to go!!

I am doing good and have been up and moving w/ no problem. My only serious problem was nausea and dry heaving right after the surgery, but didn't have much pain otherwise.

Well, I'm on my next stage. Any thing I should expect? I'm sitting here reading Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, which is a perfect title for me. hahaha

Hello, I have my surgery date set for 10/26/2009 and Dr. Miller had told me to lose 10 lbs. Any suggestions on how to do this and how soon should I start? Thanks
  12. Hi, I have my surgery scheduled for 10/26/2009. Well, I guess I'm really going to do it. Not nervous at all about the surgery itself (YET), but I am nervous about the weight I have to lose beforehand.

    Keep me in your prayers!!

GregW, Your weightloss is AWESOME!! After only one year, you are practically at your goal weight. I personally couldn't sit back and see my husband melt away, while I find every ounce of fat that he loses. What would you say was your worst experience with the lapband surgery? Do you ever experience any pain/problems over a year after surgery? I am soooooo ready to get this going.:blushing:

Hello, Has anyone had their diabetes "reversed" after the surgery? I was given a pre-diabetes diagnosis and I am sooooooo fearful that I now have full blown diabetes. I have a doctor's appointment w/ my endocronologist at the end of this month and I am not looking forward to seeing him. I really want to get this lapband on. I need to start getting this weight off!
  18. I am a pre-band and would LOVE to meet people that have already gone through the journey. I will definitely try to make it there --- It's so encouraging to see so much support and encouragement from complete strangers. I feel so much better about this surgery. THANKS!!!! My friend keeps saying she would want to talk to people who actually had the procedure done, so I will see if I can drag her along with me. Her husband is against the surgery, but she will probably definitely talk him down, once I start shedding my weight. :blushing: I look forward to meeting everyone.

Hello SpecialK, Thanks for responding to me - I appreciate it. I'm curious as to what to expect in this papework/approval process. I filled out my paperwork, received my acceptance letter, submitted my $300 and received a call to schedule my initial consultation w/ the surgeon. However, I missed the call and have been trying for 2 days to get in touch with the advocate Unfortunately, I just keep getting a voicemail box. I understand she's probably super busy; nevertheless, it doesn't help my anxiety. With my work schedule, the more advanced time I have to get something scheduled the better. It difficult to just take off tomorrow. I am really trying to not get frustrated here, especially not this early on in the process. Honestly, is this the way things go with Mt. Carmel??? Should I expect to not move along quickly? In reading some of the threads, I noticed one woman who seemed to go through drama after drama before being banded. She did say it was worth it, though. What should I expect - - I think this will help with my anxiety. I know general information about the clearances and things, but specifically how does everything flow? I understand the time frame itself may be different for different people How long after initially meeting the surgeon did you have your surgery? How many clearances did you have to go through? I guess I'm so ready to do this that I want it to JUST HAPPEN (lol) thanks

Hello, I am new to this journey and just got approved by Mt. Carmel the other day. I have forwarded my $300 administrative fee and am awaiting the next step. Obviously, I am nervous but also very excited. I've been reading the threads, but don't see anyone that has had the procedure done by Dr. Miller. Anyone out there? I keep seeing Dr. Choban's name. One other thing that I haven't read about before is the nausea. What is this about?? I know I'm going on & on & on, but I have so many questions for people have gone through this already. Any advise, suggestions and encouragement will be happily accepted. thanks
  21. Congratulations! I'm am just starting the journey and was approved for the program the other day. I guess my next step is to do a consultation w/ the surgeon and go through my clearances.

How was the surgery? How much pain?? I'm a chicken :)

    Again Congratulations and Best Wishes!!!
