The medical financing options have an extremely high interest rate. I financed thru my local credit union using a personal loan option and the interest rate was in the single digits - I think 8? I can't remember exactly now. I went to Dr Jalil Illan and had the sleeve done on 5/19. My payment is just under $140/mo. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had Sleeve surgery with Dr Jalil Illan on 5/18 in Tijuana, these are my 4 month update photos below. I took out a personal loan thru my credit union at a super low interest for $5500, that covered the cost of surgery and flights for myself and my companion. It left a little for time missed from work. I'm 5'4", my highest weight was over 255 SW:232 CW: 185 I had the lapband in 2009 but had constant issues with it and it was finally removed in 2016. I love the Sleeve and would do it again in a second. My results have nearly matched my best weight on the band and it took me over a year with the band. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have yet to publicly share the info as well. I'm not opposed at all to getting together. Maybe we could all go geocaching? Get us outdoors and moving. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Last night in TJ, sleeved with Dr Illan

My surgery was on May 19th. I leave tomorrow and have really enjoyed the visit, the surgery seems like it was a small part of this trip even though it will be so life changing. I have had ZERO gas pain and my pain has all been very manageable. I've been out walking with our concierge Juan both days at the recovery house. I was up and walking around the hospital pretty quickly as well. I received the DVD of my surgery (per my request) yesterday and actually got a big kick out of watching it last night. I'm really happy with my decision and really glad I stayed in the recovery house and explored the area a bit. Now, tomorrow I finally see my boys - it'll be five days away from my babies. Hopefully the pain is just as easily managed with the munchkins I feel like I can really do this and unlike the band I can start now - no ridiculous fills finding the 'sweet spot'. I'll be posting videos about my previous experience and doing updates of my current journey. My new youtube account is VSG Minnie (I'm a huge Disney freak ) I've enjoyed the broth at the restaurants here and hope to put to use some recipes I found on pinterest. I know I can do this again! -

My journey... from Banding in Mexico to Sleeve on 03/17/2015 in the USA

You sound similar to me. I had my band used the heck out of that tool but abused it too - ten years of infertility and the weight loss gave me three babies though. Third pregnancy I had a really bad slip, made the dr wait until after the baby to remove band and now I have nothing that fits. I'm in yoga pants I hate myself, it's been so hard, I was a size 14 at my oldest boys wedding (we adopted teens) and I was 5 months pregnant. Now I can't even fit in a size 22. I was so happy the day I made it out of a lane Bryant size range and now I'm mortified to go back! Hoping to be sleeved by year end. -
Sleeved in Mexico - My Story (warning long post)

Help! Hubby has zero facts and won't even consider TJ.
kyleegirl01 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Quick background - I was banded in 2009, had three kids afterwards (weight loss helped me regain my fertility) and a major slip during the third pregnancy. Two months after baby was born the band was removed. I was 20 pounds from my goal at that time. Six months later and I'm 20 pounds away from my PRE-BAND weight :/ I know it's my fault. I realize I'm an emotional eater I get it - but boy did I love my tool and I used the crap out of it! My husband has said he understands as well and is fine with me getting the sleeve. My insurance won't pay and the only way I can figure out how to afford the sleeve is to go to Mexico. I researched on here, read a TON and finally braved the conversation with my husband - he wouldn't even let me get into the facts before adamantly saying no. The word Mexico freaked him out enough that he wouldn't let me say anymore. So, help, I want to know your experience. Let him hear it from someone else that this isn't the back alley coat hanger procedure he has in his mind. Than I can send him the link and he can read it on his own from others who went there. Thank you! -

Update! Hubby is onboard. Not doing cartwheels but he trusts my judgement and said if I can figure out financing that he won't stop me. He knows how much this means to me and how much better I felt about myself when I was doing so well with the band. Yay! So, next question, financing? Who did what? -

Please share your experience on cleanliness of everything. My husband won't consider Mexico and I'm trying to get testimonials to help sway him -
Okay, so for the past 8 months or so I've been having band issues. It got really bad about 4 months ago with vomiting up everything I ate some days (no nausea accompanying), able to eat anything I wanted and as much of it as I wanted other days, and severe heartburn. The heartburn had me puking up blood which the doctor said was likely an ulcer. Found out I was pregnant and decided to wait to go to my Dr for a scope etc. since it was likely pregnancy related. I get severe morning sickness so really thought this was the case. Out of the first trimester now and I'm still down 5 pounds since finding out I was pregnant again. I've currently 17w4d. The nurse commented today how I looked like I'd been losing quite a bit of weight. I'm still in my regular clothes, but my abdomen is getting bigger, I can feel the top of my uterus growing etc. My OB isn't concerned about the weight loss because baby is growing and I'm still 178 pounds so not like I don't have weight to lose. Anywho, here are my symptoms now - really can't keep much of anything down some days, even Water. Other days I can keep just about anything down and can eat large portions - not huge portions but what most consider 'normal adult male' portion. I have severe heartburn that I manage with prilosec, which some days does come up. I only have 4.5 cc in my band as I had a cc out during the last pregnancy and never had it put back in because the issue started. I need to see my Dr but the baby is already going to cost so much I'm trying to hold off. Any ideas? Tips? Advice? Can I 'wait this out' or do I really need to be seen now?

Thabks for concern for little one. Actually had that appt yesterday and the jelly bean is doing awesome! Called my Dr today and receptionist is working with insurance to get me in and she says from what I'm saying I likely need to have the band out and a revision. I'll update more once I actually see my Dr. Thabks guys! -

Hot Butter Fly - Yes, LOL, it feels all over the place too. I can eat two enchiladas some sittings. Others, I get down a few bites and everything comes up within a few minutes. It's crazy, I don't understand the extremes happening or varying day to day. -
I had my band surgery in Sept 2009. The band was a huge success in my ulitmate goal to have a baby. LO was born on 9/20/11, I'm a mother. I made a tiny human. He's perfect, he's my everything and the spitting image of daddy. I have never been happier and am amazed at my capacity to love him more every day. Seiously, I'm still amazed that we finally have a baby. I'll hold him through is naps and just stare at him amazed that this tiny little perfect human came from DH and I. It's like magic, a little miracle just for us!! I attribute my success in finally conceiving after 9 years of infertility to the weight loss I achieved with the help of my band. And now, LO is almost 9 months old and I'm shockingly still not back in the 100's. GRR! I remember how excited I was to see a 1 in front of my weight. I wanted to throw a parade! I wanted to frame and savor that moment FOREVER! I vowed to NEVER go back to the 200's again and when I hit 200 in the 7th month of pregnancy I had to remind myself that my baby needed nourishment, I couldn't go crazy with shakes and excercise. But here I am post-baby and stuck. I'm literally less than 1/2 a pound away from Onederland and have been fluctuating within 3 pounds for over 2 months. I had this same struggle to get below 200 the first time, it took FOREVER for my body to let me get there. So... I'm back on the wagon. I'm back here after over 1 year (probably a lot longer than that) for support again. I CAN do this. I can get back to Onederland. I know I can! And I can reach my goal weight.... as long as no babies interfere again . Yes, we are trying again... 9 years of trying to get pregnant has us scared to wait. So, I guess you could say I'm on the wagon as long as fetal invasion doesn't take place again . Hello again fellow bandsters. How the hell is everyone doing?!?
