  1. My surgeon says no alcohol the first year and after that in moderation. You don't want to take in all your calories through liquid.

    Lap Band on 10/22

I just had my surgery on 10/14. Answers to questions: 1. it is normal not to go #2. I am doing liquids for 2 weeks so there is no food to cause you to have a bowel movement. As you introduce foods, you will start once again. They also say that a diet high in Protein can cause constipation but everyone is different. My doctor recommends a stool softner and a mild laxative to help. 2. To get the gas out of your system, they suggest to walk, walk, walk. 3.When you burp, it may feel like that. Remember you had major surgery and disrupted your tummy. It may take time for things to heal. 4. There are protein supplements that you add to Water, I haven't tried any myself but you could check out the various wesites that offer Protein powder or a health food store (like GNC) where they sell them. Good luck!!

    List of October Bansters

    I am october 14th!! Yea...
  4. I worked really hard to change my eating before the surgery. I am scheduled for October 14th. I started the process in April and there are many requirements with my doctor including losing 10% of your body weight before surgery. For me that was 28 pounds. As of now, I have lost 30. So I have been eating more fruits and veggies, less snacks. I have also cut out soda as you cannot have that after surgery. That was most difficult for me as I love diet pepsi. The first week was hard, I actually had headaches from the cafeine withdrawl but it has gotten better. When I started the process, I had to attend an orientation session and they stated "Live your life today as if you have had the surgery". I found that to be a very powerful statement and have tried to follow it. I have hit bumps along the way but I feel that I am prepared and ready for my surgery.
  5. October 14th is my date as well. I am so excited to reach this point. I have worked so hard the past six months. I will follow how you are doing, good luck!!

    October 2009 Surgery Date?

I have a tentative date for October 14th, I can't wait. I have been working at this process for 5 months. For my doctor, you have to lose 10% of your weight, be evaluated and treated for sleep apnea, see nutritionist, dietition, therapist, and surgeon. I am just waiting for confirmation of all pre-op appointments. Good luck to everyone!!

    "Program Fees"

I have never heard of that. My doctor charged a $50 fee for an orientation session that was not covered by insurance. That was it, then it was just co-pays for the appointments.
