Portola Suzanne replied to corinne211's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drive an hour each way also have stairs at work and did ok. My only issue was pain where the port was placed, so I went to the pharmacy and bought a rib support to hold the area in place it worked wonders. If you take it easy you will probibly do just fine and I you wish a great journey I LUV MY BAND! -
I am in SHOCK! I got my Insurance approval!

Congrats! I had my surgery on Thursday and was back to work on Tuesday. Of course we are all different do you have a sit down job? -
I have read on here that some people react to the stuff they put on your tummy before doing surgery. It could be a result of that.

stopping hrt before surgery?
Portola Suzanne replied to WhyW8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow thats a new one to me they never told me to stop taking my hormones and they were very specif about what not to take. Oh well follow the directions of your doc they know best and good luck on your journey! -
So today hubby and I drove the car to Squaw Valley, parked the car got the bikes off the back and rode the bikes 9 miles (uphill) to Tahoe City (North Lake Tahoe). Just two months ago I wouldn't have even dared. We had lunch (a cup of chili for me) looked around at the sites and rode the bikes the 9 miles back to the car. It was such a beautiful day and a great accomplishment to know I can once again do all the fun things that make life worth living! I just wanted to share this with all my friends and support here at lapband central. The other great thing is now when I go out I am not obsessing about when, where and what I will eat. I eat to nourish my body, what a difference. Did I say I LOVE MY BAND! Thanks for listening and tell me about your great victories. Suzanne:thumbup:

New Guy 55-80 overweight
Portola Suzanne replied to swjtlongdrive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI was 36 and I wanted to lose 65-75 lbs. Insurance ok'd the operation because of other issues but I am so glad I have the band. It is work but I will get to the weight I want to be. I know without the band I would put every pound back on. Do your research and make your decision based on what is best for you and good luck in your journey! -
Thought not a good canidate?
Portola Suzanne replied to eyezchu22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow I am so sorry you are going through a tuff time. I think you should tell them the truth. The fact is if it was so easy for us to lose weight we wouldn't need the surgery. The fact is food is your friend, your comfort and confidant. Perhaps you could talk to a counselor about what your going through. Now here's the other side life with the band is not "the easy way". It is hard work, most of us have fallen off our wagons and had to set them upright again to get them going! But we get back on our program until our next bump and get over that one too. So you hit a bump, be honest with your doctor make a decision about what you want to do and go for it. Find support either here or at a hospital support group and understand this won't be the first or the last time you need it. You are human, this is a great investment in yourself and you are worth it! Good luck in your journey and keep us informed of your progress. -
We are here for you, I use this site as my main support and luv all the insight and support everyone gives. This is a difficult process (and it is a process) some days are better than others. You made a wonderful decision to get healthy so enjoy your journey!

Port pain POD #4
Portola Suzanne replied to dukepedsnurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can go to the pharmancy and by a rib support, they are about $20 and worth ever penny. I wore it for about two weeks after surgery because of the pain when I walked. It just holds your middle so it doesn't jiggle when you walk. Good luck on your journey! -
Tired of People Saying: "You Really Don't Look Lika You Need That!!"
Portola Suzanne replied to ncarreras's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at a 36 BMI when insurance approved this operation. I agree I need it, they agree I need it so that's that! I told very few people because of their response. What is so funny is I was talking to a woman at work who had lap band (doesn't know I had it) she looked right at me and told me I was not big enough to get lap band. I thought to my self then whats this thing rapped around my stomach! Never said a word to her let her think what she wants. Do what you know is right for you and good luck in your journey! -

Restless Monkey did not get her surgery the first time because of a fatty liver perhaps she will see this and answer your question. -
Wow! Just rec'd the bill from the Hospital...
Portola Suzanne replied to tkee99516's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine was about 28,000 of which I had to pay about $1500. Of course insurance has contractual rates so they paid about half that amount in reality. -
How is your blood pressure? Sometimes low blood pressure can cause this, Other than that don't know but my blood prssure has always been low and if I get up to fast the room spins. Check with your doc and let us know what you find out, good luck on your journey!

Dont know if my BMI is high enough
Portola Suzanne replied to hannahbeth's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was approved with a BMI of 36. I had joint issues and back problems so it is a varied degree of things that can get you approved. Good luck I hope you dream comes true I know mine did. I Luv My Band! -
We all had different schedules mine was one week of liquids (defined as anything that will fit through a straw), one week mushies, one week soft and then foods as tolerated. So every program is different. I as have read on here when people have called and asked they have been given different food ideas. So call your team and hang in there, its worth it!

Back to work - How Quick
Portola Suzanne replied to Barley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Thursday was back to work on Tuesday. The worst part was the pain where the port is and I bought a rib belt (support) at the pharmancy so I could walk with out all the pain. It is doable! -
I eat salad, no problem my doc salad it was ok. Had my surgery in June.

Portola Suzanne replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I paid around $1500, the first 90 days post op fills and all included. Now its about $200 a fill. I am glad that doesn't have to happen very often! But will pay it in an instant, I Love My Band!!!!!! -
first fill - 3 cc
Portola Suzanne replied to jacksdad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All it took for me was 3cc's to be at restriction, everyone is different some take more than others. Trust your doc, it is better to go slow than to be to tight. Best of luck in your journeys! -

How fragile we are.........
Portola Suzanne replied to givempills's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow very powerful and I am sorry for James I pray he gets better. I get your situation and down playing your band now here is the other side. A study was just released that stated people who are 80 pound over weight live 3 to 12 years less than those who are not. So your surgery is life giving to you also. I know it gave me my life back. So congrats on your band and your new journey! -
I'm in this will be fun (did I really say that about losing weight the band must be squeezing my brain) LOL!!!!!
