Is my pouch stretched?
Portola Suzanne replied to volleymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Salad is a slider food it goes right through and most of us who tolerate it can eat alot of it. Try more solid proteins, if its something I measure I use a cup. Or I eat 3 to 4 oz protein and veggies. Go for your fills it will get better. One fill is not enough for most of us. Good luck! -

I thought band was different...........
Portola Suzanne replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Esv2000 I eat protien-chicken, steak, turkey and veggies, Yes sometimes I allow carbs but not as a regular thing. Yes I have to work at this but its not that hard cause I am not hungry all the time like i used to be. Could you go to a support group, see a nutritionalist? It is very hard to do this on your own, I come here for a lot of support and please let us know how we can support you. Have you been going for your fills, that helps also. -
Smoking and the Bandit
Portola Suzanne replied to illuminationlady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chanix is a great medication for this, also research shows when you quit things all at the same time you have a greater chance of success. I know it seems strange because it is alot to take on. You can do this and you will love the band it is so worth it, For the first time in my life I am not hungry all the time. So wishing you luck on your journey!!!!!:crying: -

I hate it when people post just to post.....
Portola Suzanne replied to TerriDoodle's topic in The Lounge
Hey all, I just wanted to join the group. I have to say although I haven't posted here that I have enjoyed (for the most part) reading about your lives and the support you provide to each other. This site has been my support since getting the band and don't quite know where i would be with out it. So I hope your day has been wonderful, mine was DH and my doggie Truffles took a hike in the mountians. It was beautiful, the fall colors and the brisk air. I need to get out and connect with something and that did the trick. Take care- Suzanne -
Yep it happens, we all have our weak moments. I hadn't had cookies since my surgery but the other day I got the bug and ate six. This is probably way better than the whole box I would have eaten prior. But no more cookies in my house and I'm back on the wagon so to speak. You will be to, as you start to change you eating it will just become habit most of time so good luck!

How bad is soda for the band, really?
Portola Suzanne replied to Pangaeus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The carbonation is bad, did it not hurt your pouch? I have read on here that some that were healed were allowed to have it now and then. How long ago did you get your band and what does your doc say? -
Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
Portola Suzanne replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
200 pounds a 5'2" was a problem for me so much so insurance thought it was severe enough to cover it. I think it depends on a lot of factor but in most cases I would say yes! -
How much food can YOU eat at each meal RIGHT BEFORE you get a fill? (not first fill)
Portola Suzanne replied to dustout's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions

Lap band intolerance and bypass revision?
Portola Suzanne replied to Julie_Dizz's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am so sorry this is happening to you, I have thought a lot about what course i would take if my band had to come out. I decided if this did occur I would probably opt for the sleeve (GVS) procedure. Have you researched this at all? You need to make the decision thats right by you. They have a sister forum you can access on this site. Just a suggestion I hope it all works out for you. Please keep us updated! -
Entertainment???
Portola Suzanne replied to carbgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ummmm, let me see hiking, skiing, bike riding, playing pool, darts. bowling to name a few! -
OMG I did that back in the 80's didn't know they even still did that. It's supposed to be horse urine, they also gave me pills and ya anyone eating 500 calories will lose. Of course I got the band cause I put it back on again and again!

Portola Suzanne replied to BQT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was about $1500 with co pays and stuff that wasn't covered. -
Good luck I hope you win and welcome to the journey! Best thing I ever did for myself!

Can't control my eating before approval!!
Portola Suzanne replied to kristintaylor1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting the band does not mean you have to give up you favorite foods forever so get that out of your head! The band is about portion control and most of us can eat pretty much normal foods. But for me if I start eating a bunch of carbs I quit losing so I stay away from them. Also protein keeps me full longer and that's the whole point. Am I not going to tell you i will never eat a cookie again no. I have had two cookies since my surgery. The difference is I'm not that hungry most of the time. So when I do feel the urge I ask am I really hungry or "head hungry". If my body is not hungry then i don't eat. But on special occasions I may have a taste of a favorite and be happy with that. Yes once you have restriction it does help with cravings because your not hungry. But as my surgeon told me I can 1/2 a cookie my day away and weigh 300 lbs it's up to me. So I hope this has been helpful and good luck on your journey! -
Questions [and a true story!] to all....
Portola Suzanne replied to NYC_gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Change Doctors they need to work with you not against you. Find someone who has a lot of experience and we are all different so restriction is a relative term, they did not even want to fill me the first time because my weight loss was good. You may be one that gets good restriction with little fill. So I sorry you had to go through this but good luck on the rest of your journey!
