I was banded May 26, and in mid-august got a fill to 5.2cc on a 10 cc band. All was without restriction until my b-day end of August. We had guests over who wanted to bbq steaks, but they ended up very well done, I prefer Med rare. Immediately caused problems, lots of pain, had to go throw up. Ever since this time I have been having lots of pain with the need to throw up about 2 times a week. It wouldn't bother me except for the pain is pretty intense. I am presently visiting Santiago Chile and my first lunch with friends I had to excuse myself - twice- pretty embarassing since it is considered very bad manners to not eat what they serve you! My question is: Will this get better? Most of the time I am chewing thoroughly, although there have been some times when I know that was the problem. I am on meds for a slow thyroid and am losing slowly, about 3 lbs a month. Prior to getting the lap band I lost 50 lbs in 5 months. But I prefer the slower pace as I am very sad to notice that I have hanging skin in my lower abdomen. Overall I am not very pleased with the band.
  3. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I had surgery May 26 2009 and it wasn't easy to get Aetna to approve it. I had to do a 1200 cal diet with exercise for 3 months before I got approval. I also had to meet with a nutritionist as well as my PCP monthly. The good news is that I was so motivated to get the band that I lost 48 lbs before I had the surgery. In the Dallas area I used TLC Edge and they handled all the insurance approval paperwork. If it wasn't for them i'm certain I would have never been approved. Good Luck!
  4. Hi y'all I was banded about 2 weeks ago in Plano-I go for my first follow-up visit this Thursday, and I have been having a very, very hard time with the all-liquid diet for the first 2 weeks after surgery. My tummy growls soooo much and it has that terrible and hurting empty feeling. I need to confess that since a week after surgery I have been having one cup of "mushies" once per day and I now feel much better. No more empty pain and no more growling. I do have willpower. I had to do a 3 month diet for Aetna. Jan 10th I was 273 lbs and when I went to be banded end of May I was 225. Now I am about 219. Am I the only one that was starving on that all-liquid diet? Thanks, Carla Keller Texas
