9 days since lap banding!! can anyone tell me how there going???
MissK replied to mynewlife75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am almost 4 weeks post-op, I lost 6 kilos (13lbs) on the 14 day pre-op diet and I have lost 4 kilos (9lbs) since the surgery. Weight loss has definitely slowed, I'm actually surprised I didn't gain this week as I had 3 social functions and had a couple of wines at each. -
Oh, and thank you, my work out kitty is flattered

Thanks guys... I guess I really just want some idea of calorie restricton so that I know if I am or am not going stupid with what I eat. FitDay is really helping me monitor my protein and opening my eyes to what foods are/are not high in fat. I guess what inspired this post is the fact that my scales were being a bit funky this week, heading in the wrong direction - although today on weekly weigh in day they have returned to the same spot they were in last week.
-
Sad to say that my scales did not move this week... mid-week they started to creep UP, but this morning on official weigh-in day they were exactly where they were last weekend. I know this will happen from time to time, doesn't make it any less sad. Did you receive any calorie guidelines?
MissK replied to should_be_working's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was wondering the same... I am at the moment aiming to remain under 1000 calories per day, and get in between 60-80 grams of protein but I am not sure if this is correct. -
Hi there, I had my band put in the day after you, and I have had my period twice - I used to only get it once or twice a year. As for hungry, I'm not suffering from hunger at all but I am undoubtedly eating a little more than I should be, just trying to make healthy choices and eat fresh, wholesome foods. I haven't gained weight, but my weight loss has definitely slowed down. My surgeon put no fill in my band, this could be the case with you too - hang in there my friend, the period between banding and adjustment is not easy and most surgeons don't except to see a massive loss during this time.

I find it hard to believe that a rural area has every fast food outlet under the sun available but no actual restaurants. A potato may be a potato, an egg may be an egg, but you don't really know what they're smothering that potato with or what they're cooking that egg in before it makes it onto your plate. I do live in the real world, I work very long hours on a mine site and I know what it's like to be tired and feel like you can't be assed to cook tonight - but I do this thing called pre-planning and time management. Each weekend I cook at least one to two meals in the slow-cooker (chop it up, chuck it in, it cooks itself) and freeze them. I also always have on hand healthy alternatives such as tins of tuna, tubs of low fat yoghurts/custards/fruits, eggs that can be scrambled for a simple dinner. I'm not saying I am a saint and won't EVER touch fast food again, I just REFUSE to 'plan' to eat it or consider it a part of my regular routine and I honestly think anyone who is already doing this after going through the time, effort, expense and pain that we've just been through is really silly. I think that claiming that you must eat out every day, or every other day is nothing short of a cop out and people making excuses for their own inability to be planned and organised. Try harder, you owe it to yourself.

Are you allowed to have caffeine?
MissK replied to should_be_working's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My nutritionist and surgeon are both fine with tea & coffee, maximum of three cups per day - but I only drink one. -
three weeks post op today!!! WHAT SHOULD I BE EATING??
MissK replied to mommyx2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 18 days post-op and am beginning to introduce solids; I am eating slowly and chewing well, and I have had no issues at all. Some things I have eaten are grain toast; silverside; mashed potato; pasta. -
Hi there The sensation is gone; my surgeon thought it was perhaps swelling and he did not think anything was stuck as I had not consumed anything capable of getting stuck. It only lasted about 4 or 5 days. Hope you feel better soon.
-
I have not touched fast food since I commenced my pre-op diet and I don't plan on touching it any time soon; to those of you who are already eating fast food and doing it on a regular/recurring basis, I sincerely hope it doesn't affect your journey in the wrong way but I would not be in the least bit surprised if it does.
-
I am on my pre-op diet at the moment; I can have 3 x protein shakes plus two cups of low starch vegetables a day (tomato, lettuce, zuchinni, eggplant, cauliflower, broccoli, carrot, mushroom, peppers, etc) In addition to this I can use a teaspoon of olive oil, herbs/spices, garlic, chili, tomato paste, soy sauce in cooking. My issue is that I am not a very experienced cook when it comes to experimenting and I don't know how to do ANYTHING with my vegies other than to stir-fry them in garlic and soy sauce. This is getting old, very fast. Can anyone share with me any ideas or tips for what I can do during this stage to make the vegetables more appealing?

Today is the day for the beautifil Miss Kate... !!! Best wishes to you Kate, let us know how you are when you are up to it - I'm sure you'll be a star!

Hi Sal Hope all went okay! Kel
-
Hello,
Thanks for checking in with me - the 'stuck' feeling is beginning to subside, it comes and goes. My surgeon isn't sure what exactly is causing it but he's confident there isn't an obstruction as I am getting liquids and yoghurt down without an issue. I have strained a muscle in my back which is making life very uncomfortable, if it wasn't for that I'd be on top of the world.
How are you?
Kel.
-
Glad to hear all went well Miss Kate; the next few days may have their tough moments, hang in there my friend :blushing:
-
How is your skin/hair, post-op people? My skin is incredibly dry, I am off to have a facial in the morning. Hair is a little dry as well.
-
Thanks girls... I went and had a lovely hour-long facial and massage today and my skin is feeling much better. Could have been dehydration. I'll make sure I keep up the moisturiser and try to drink more water :-)
-
My first fill isn't until 7 weeks post-op!

who is excersizing and if so.. what kind
MissK replied to mommyx2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I've been banded a week today, I plan on hitting the gym next week just for light cardio. I'll get into weights etc in about 6 weeks. -
I'm glad your mum is going with you, it's nice to have someone there for moral support. Don't be scared; I have had various issues (gas pain, now this throat thing, etc) BUT I don't regret having the surgery yet and I'm sure you won't either - it wasn't meant to be easy, but we are strong and we can do this. Do you have MSN messenger or AIM? I see you have Yahoo, but that's the only one I don't have. I'd love to have you on my contact list. Be strong Miss Kate, you can do this

Im so damn stupid! Eating solids only 2 weeks post op
MissK replied to mom2boys3's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okay, so it's confession time - I am stupid as well. I didn't quite eat what you did, I just had a lapse in concentration. My mother was making a casserole to blend for me for when I move onto mushies and she went out, so she asked me to take it out of the oven and check it was cooked... so what did I do? I put a piece of the steak in my mouth and before I realised what I was doing, I chewed and swallowed! Thank goodness she had already pre-cut the steak into teeny tiny little pieces... I wasn't in any form of severe pain, but it uncomfortable and it was a bizarre feeling it go down my throat and then slowly slowly crawl back up again. Must concentrate in future when around food!
