I am so sorry your sleeve was declined. I wish you the best of luck in your appeal process. I know there have been a couple of people on this site who have appealed and won- you may want to start a new thread asking for appeal advice -

Fantastic! Way to Go! -
I gave up worring about protein for the first week. It was difficult to drink anything much less protein that didn't taste so good. I just focussed on getting at least 48 oz of fluid in- it has gotten easier every day. Tomorrow I start on full liquids so I can have my protein shakes with skim milk and my yogurt!! wooo hoooo!!!!

Glad to hear you are doing well!

Introduction and Concerns
attitudefree replied to IGDiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I walked the halls the night of surgery and several times a day while in the hosptial. I am 5 days post op and have been walking 30 min a day everyday -
Hi All I am 4 days post op and really could care less about eating or drinking. I know I have to take in my fluids- my Dr wants me to have 48-60 oz of clear liquids. He said 40 gm of protein would be nice but not to worry about it much during the first week- mainly focus on getting the overall amounts of fluids. Well it sounds sooo easy in your head ....but ... it reality I am struggling. I try and sip sip sip but then I just get this fullness feeling and just the thought of drinking anything makes me cringe. Any advice? I don't want to get dehydrated but I am struggling to get just 40 oz of fluids in. I am thinking if I can just get through the first week of clears things will be better on full liquids.I welcome all suggestions........

Need advice- 4 days post op
attitudefree replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not waking up with a dry mouth- actually I am waking up to go pee! So far today I have had 32 oz and it's 2pm so it's better than yesterday. I just went for a 30 minutes walk so hopefully that will help too. Is the fullness I am feeling related to the fluids I am drinking or it is trapped air? Also on another note how long does it take for your bowels to function? -
Congrats Cajun! Glad everything is going well. Hope you have a safe trip home and look forward to talking to you more.

Need advice- 4 days post op
attitudefree replied to attitudefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys. I am trying. So far this morning I have 18 oz in and its 11 am so that is a little better. I never thought it would be difficult to get in 48 oz in a whole day! -
Hi Cajun
I know you are a few days behind me and want you to know I am thinking about you. Hope all goes well- you are on my prayer list for a smooth recovery post op. Let us hear from you when you can.

Several of you have requested more details to my surgery experience- so here ya go. Pre-op - all they did here was get me ready. Start an IV. I met with the Dr, anesthesia team and nurses from the OR. OR- I vaguely remember going into the OR. They had given me a little versed (sedation medicine in pre-op) Recovery- the only thing I remember about the recovery was the nurses telling me my room was ready. The Floor- my surgery was at 2:30 in the afternoon and I was in my room by 6pm that night (I think) I woke up feeling fine. I was a little thirsty but no pain to speak of. I couldn't have anything to drink the first night post op, the only thing I could have were these green sponge sticks that I could soak in water. I was glad I had brought some chap stick - it helped with my dry lips. I had a foley catheter, an IV, and a JP (jackson pratt) drain- small drain coming out from my stomach. My husband was in the room and I felt great. We watched TV a little but I doozing in and out. By 10 pm that night I was walking the halls and did fine. First day post op- I was able to drink one medicine cup (little plastic 1 oz thing) of water or ice every hour. And that was it!! I had a PCA (patient control pain medication) for pain. Just push the button if I was hurting. I may have pushed it a total of six times the whole time I was there. The only time I had pain was when I laughed or coughed. I do suggest having a small pillow handy to use to splint your incision when you are coughing, laughing or getting out of bed. I walked the halls several times Second post op day- I could drink what ever amount of water or protein punch that I wanted. It went down fine and I knew to just sip throughout the day. In the early evening I did feel a fullness and I think it is a combination of air in my stomach and the liquids I have been drinking. I was told to walk more....so I did. Late in the evening on my second post op day the surgeon said I could go home. He pulled the JP drain- it didn't hurt coming out but definitely is a wierd feeling. Third post op day- I am home and doing really well I think. It's almost 10 am and I have walked twice in the neighbourhood, visited with a girlfriend that stopped by, made a pot of spaghetti for hubby and the kids dinner tonight. I have gotten in 20 oz of fluid so far and am pleased with that. I am not really having any pain. Not really hungry but know it is important to drink my fluids to stay hydrated. I am off to go shower- it will feel sooooo good to shower. First shower I have had since Monday morning. I will be glad to answer any questions about the surgical experience. To me it was smooth sailing and a great start for my journey to a healthier me! Take Care All
