Woowoo! Manolos here we come! I bought an AMAZING pair of St. John heels that were the tiniest big snug at a killer price a few weeks ago. After reading how much people's feet have shrunk, I wonder if they'll be too big. Well, if that's the case it won't matter because I can finally borrow my sister's shoes.

Hi there, Today was day 8 of 14 of my pre-op liquid diet (down 11 pounds by the way!). Until today, I felt great and realtively energized. I'm allowed 5 shakes a day and at my mid-morning shake I nearly threw up and was nauseous for some time. One of my friends says it happens to her sister-in-law who has diabetes... Something about the blood sugar being affected so quickly. I don't have diabetes and the reaction I had was so foreign to me. Have any of you seen this? I haven't been able to get down 5 shakes since my 4th day or so because I'm just not hungry. Last night I had to force myself to drink #3 so I wouldn't get a headache. I'm wondering, will days 9-14 be a repeat of today? I'm hoping that this is just a standard "off" day in the pre-op phase. Any thoughts, knowledge, emcouragement would be appreciated!

Good luck Lori, I feel like I hit a brick wall today. I have 2 weeks of liquids pre-op and they really go to me today. I just hope that tomorrow's a vetter day. I also got the Ambien thing straightened out. I was so nervous and forgot to tell the anesthesiologist about being on Ambien because I couldn't sleep these few weeks. He advised me not to come off of it. When I tolf him about not wanting to take it the night before the surgery, he said that is exactly when I should take it. He said our bodies should be well rested for the surgery as it will only promote healing. NOTE! He asked me if I have taken Ambien CR before and I have... he said good, he just didn't want me trying out something so new before my surgery if I didn't have experience.

I'm in the same boat as you are. When I went in for my pre-admission testing I told the nurse and she said ask my PCP for Xanax!!! I was a little bit surprised how quickly she went the medicate route but oh well, I'm do't think I'm ready to go that route. I've actually been taking my Ambien CR but I have to call back the hospital and get the OK from the anesthesiolgist as I wasn't taking it when I saw him lst week. Has anybdy else been taking it before or after the surgery? What did your dr and the anesthesiologist say about it?

Damn! You look amazing! I'm definitely going that route when I get to goal. Congrats, Telly!

Morning! I've been noticing that a lot of people have been sleeping in their recliners. I don't have a recliner in my apartment so I was thinking about getting one of those husband pillows that I had back in college. For those of you who are banded, do you think it would help any or would it be just as good to prop up my regular bed pillows? Thanks!

Also, why not go in for another fill so you feel the restriction you're looking for to get you through the next plateau?

I have to do two weeks of liquids. I was given a choice among a few different drinks and I chose the SlimFast Optima for its price and convenience. I can have 5 shakes a day and up to 2 cups of raw or cooked veggies (no corn, peas, potatoes, etc.) Today is day 4 and it's actually going better than I anticipated.

Awesome, Heather!!!! Curves is very popular here... and for a very good reason!!! GOOD LUCK!

I got one... pantyhose not hurting your inner thighs when you wear them!

Hey Purty, My doc said I'm allowed to have the following during my 2 weeks of clear liquids: gatorade, diet or regular iced eas, crystal lite, broth, skim milk, diluted juice, SF hot chocolate, vegetable juice, tomato soup, water, V8 Spalsh, coffee, tea, ices. (no straws, no carbonation) Switch to all SF after 2 weeks. Also, I need to have 2 protein shakes a day (must dilute) and was told to drink from a sippie cup to help get the baby sips. I hope this helps!!

Hi there, I'm still waiting for my insurance approval from United Healthcare for my surgery date of 10/23. The surgical coordinator said that they didn't ask for the 5 year health history (even though I have it) and she considered it a good sign. There are no exclusions in my policy and I was told it was covered. I also heard that UHC is one of the easier companies to work with. For those of you with UHC, were you approved quickly or did it take some time? She told me she'll contact them next week if we don't hear from them today and told me to start my liquids on Monday regardless. One of the reasons I'm so nervous is that my company may switchto a new plan on 11/1 and I'm afraid UHC won't approve me since they know our company might be leaving them. Any thoughts? Reassurances? Thanks!

I just received word from my surgical coordinator that I was approved... :girl_hug: Thanks for everyone's support!! Here we go.....

Wow... my surgery date is in 2 weeks! Given my situation, I can't push my surgery off past 10/31. I'm hoping this would fall into their 3-4 week typical time period. Any suggestions?

Congratulations on your commitment to a healthier lifestyle by signing up! Curves is very successful here in the US and I'm sure you'll do great! However, the quoted text really bothers me and it upsets me that a fitness facility would guarantee weight loss by attending 3x or more a week. Losing weight requires that you use more calories than you take in. If you do 3 workouts a week for an average of 400 calories, that's only a total of 1200 calories. And we all know far too well how easy it is to consume 1200 calories... and that would just keep you at maintenance. You know your body better than anyone else so listen to it and go for it! Just don't buy into somebody else's BS because it's what you want to hear... You're going to do awesome because of YOU, not because THEY guarantee it.

Hey Mary! Heels are definitely high on my list. When I was waiting for my consult with Dr. Fielding I was telling my sister that I couldn't wait to be more comfortable in my heels... she (all 125 lbs of her) assured me that it's all a farce and no matter what size we are, the feet will still be aching from our Manolos! The office staff laughed about it, and then they all agreed. Well, I don't have a pair yet but I've already picked out my first pair!!! It's going to be my ONEderland present to myself! It's SO going to be worth it!

Successful Bandsters: How Did You Do It?
Dani-X replied to jgandg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Julie! Way to go! Would you mind sending me a PM? I have a question for you but don't see any way to msg you. Thanks! Dani -
Chrispy - It's great to hear how well you're doing! Talk about encouragement!!! You know, I don't even own a scale and am debating about even getting one. I usually use the one at the gym but I think I will for the fact that I’d like to know my progress in between my visits… I start pre-op on Monday morning and will weigh myself that morning when I get out of bed. <O:p You know, I’m so tired of this last supper crap! My friends keep wanting to take me out for my “last” big meal. I try to explain to them that I can still go out with them but I’ll just be ordering differently… and not consuming 4 mojitos! J Last night I went to Whole Foods and got some roasted brussel sprouts and a grilled chicken breast and just enjoyed a quiet healthy dinner at home. It was refreshing and satisfying and made me feel good about myself and my new direction! <O:p <O:p So, good luck to all of us and have a GREAT weekend!<O:p</O:p

8 hours! OMG, it's really happening! I see my ticker count down every day and can't believe it. 5 days until pre-op liquids for me! Good luck, chica! I can't wait to hear about it! Know that we're all thinking of you

Hi there, I'm having my surgery on 10/23 and I just found out that my boss wants me to head to Chicago (from NY) on 10/30. In your opinions, is this too early to travel? I know people have the band in Mexico and travel back... just not sure how long of a healing period they give themselves. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ready, nice job on the weight loss! 30 pounds in 2 months is awesome! My doctor puts all his patients on a 2 week liquid pre-op diet... I have 117 pounds to lose and I'm on the same pre-op diet as the person who has 217 pounds. I was also told it was to shrink the liver but I think it also helps out in mentally prepping you for what's to come. In addition to the liquids, I was told I can eat 2 cups of vegetables a day (raw or cooked) but no peas, corn, potatoes, etc. and preferably during lunch or dinner. I start my pre-op on 10/9 and am looking forward to it. Personally, 4 weeks of liquids seems worth its weight in gold to be on the road to excellent health and fitness. But, that's just my $0.02! Good luck!

My nutritionist gave me one of 5 pre-op liquid diets to follow and she said that I was just as good going for the Slimfast Optima. She mentioned that it was inexpensive, easy to find and portable. So, Target had them on sale last week for $5 a box so I stacked up!
-
Hey Anna, I love our list! Can you change me to 10/23? I start my pre-op diet on 10/9 but the surgery is 10/23. Sorry for the confusion! Are we awesome or what!?
-
Hi Georgina, GREAT job! It's got to be tough to be around a party and still stick to the pre-op diet! One of the hints my surgeon's office gave me was to keep busy and limit your TV time. They said do crosswords, knit, go for a walk, anything to keep yourself from being bored. I actually purchased a cat-toy knitting kit that I'm going to start when I do my pre-op on 10/9. And don't forget, come here for support! GOOD LUCK!
