Increase Your Chances of a Good Fill
peharper replied to sweetsue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded 7/18/06 and got my first fill yesterday (9/13/06). I don't notice much difference. Is this normal? -
Hello Everyone, I had my surgery on 7/18/06 and have scheduled my first fill for 9/13. How do you know what kind of band you have and what it will hold? Should I be able to feel where my port is? At this time, I don't feel as though I have much restriction. I'm going to have to practice chewing and swallowing slowly. How long do you have to wait for a second fill if the first one doesn't create much restriction? So many questions.

I lost weight before because they put me on a liquid diet for 2 wks before and 2 wks after. So far I've lost 25 lbs. My two weeks after is over on Tues. I hope on start on soft foods at that point. -

There are support group meetings in Lansing. They are on the second and fourth mondays of each month. I haven't gone to any yet, but It was in the hurley bariatric newsletter, which is also at: http://hurleybc.com/documents/newsletter/HRLY-BariatricNews-02-17.pdf -

WHile sitting in the waiting room for my initial visit, there were 3 women waiting for follow up appts. They all had Dr. Farhan and thought he was a god. They had nothing but good things to say about him. THey had all had the RNY surgery, not lapband. I didn't want the RNY because it is so much more invasive and cannot be reversed. Also, with the lapband your weight loss can be revised with a fill - not so with RNY. -

I went to Dr. Farhan at Hurley in Flint for my banding on 7/18. I LOVE that place. Everyone is so friendly and informative. I'm doing great, get my staples out on TUesday - can't wait. Still on liquids, but should start soft foods in a few days. So far, so good. ' -
They ARE really itchy! Can't wait to get them out.
-
Wheetsin - THANKS! I was beginning to think there was something wrong. I go back to Hurley Clinic on the 1st of August to get the staples removed. I hope they schedule a fill soon after, because I don't want to start gaining back the weight I lost while on the liquid diet.

Just had my banding on 7/18, glad to hear everyone feels it is worthwhile. -
I had my lapband surgery on 7/18. I'm doing fine, but I thought it would be much more difficult to drink (still on liquid diet) I can drink just about as much as I could before surgery. Is this normal?

If your first flight is delayed at all, just tell the flight attendant and they will check on your connecting flight for you. If you are changing planes on the same airline, you shouldn't have any problem.
-
Hi Karen, Wow, you are brave, going all by yourself. You'll do fine. The plane ride will be great - I love to fly! The only problem with flying is delays - you probably don't have to change planes, so it should be a smooth flight. How long do you have to stay in Mexico? Pat

Hi, I am new to this forum. I will be having lapband surgery on July 18th. I am now on day 5 of a liquid diet.
-
I am scheduled for surgery on July 18th at Hurley Hospital in Flint, MI. I don't have any little ones running around anymore - I am 59 years old. I wish this surgery had been available when I was much younger, but now I see this as a start to a healthier life. My husband and I have recently retired and are planning to travel. It will be so much more fun to travel, walk around, see the sights, wear a bathing suit, etc. I am nervous, but really looking forward to the outcome. I am on the 5th day of my liquid diet. The first day was horrible - splitting headache from no caffeine. Now, having no food isn't really so awful. I have actually lost about 8 pounds since I started the liquids. I thought I would be tired, but I seem to have more energy - probably psychological. I stay one night in the hospital after the surgery. Will I be able to be up and walking around and feeling halfway well when I get home? Or does it take several days to get back on your feet?
