you guys are awesome! TOTALY HONEST!!!!! Well, lets recap on how we are doing so far.... Day one was the bear! but I made it, atleast until somtime in the middle of the night when the hunger cramps were so bad I went to the fridge and got a table spoon of taco meat. after 2 of those I was able to sleep. I figured my family needs me to be awake and ready to go in the morning so I did splirge. But I made a promiss to myself I will only eat day 3 protiens. Th next day I was ok when I got up, but thru the day I just got more fatigued. SO I started drinking more and more soymilk and fruit juice and that really helpped with the carb headaches. But I felt too tired to go for our walk in the morning so we havent been doing that this week. Day 3 &4 have much better. I have been drinking all I can then when my stomach starts to cramp I have about 1/4 cup of canned fish at each time. This has really helped with how much my portion size had become. I was eating well over a cup per meal before this 5dPT! and my weigh was up to 218lbs. It is so scarry to see it climb after all the work it took to get to 215lbs. So here we are on day 5 and I have really been keeping to the same thing as the days 3-4. I think I have found a good maintenance plan for me right now. I know the juice really helps with the headaches and fetigue. and the soymilk and fish is good for the metabolism. I am finally not craving the carbs. YEA!!!! and I can tell my pouch has shrunk ALOT with how much tuna I am eating. 2 cans / day. I know I will want to add veggies into this I have a garden and I just cant resist. It has been hard to go without munching all day on those peaches I have been canning. So I have allowed myself some of the juice. Well, it is a good negotiation.. LOL :w00t: Limited fruit will be a good maintenance plan for me so that darn carb monster doesnt come back........ I am really wanting to take these PT Lessons forward to help me meet my goal weight. This morning I weighed in at 214 lbs!!!! Yea!! THE 5 DAY Pouch Test has help me BREAK THE PLATEAU!!! Now it is my job to keep it going! First lesson- eat when HUNGERY HUNGERY not just little hungery. Lesson #2- make every bite count- PROTIEN (mmmmmm FISH) Lesson 3- use the timer to tell me when it is ok to drink again ( 64 oz/day takes time but not 30min before and after eating) I was breaking this big time washing the food right past the band... Lesson 4- 5 bites chewwed well (I let myself eat 5 bites and then set the timer to have my Water then I can eat for another 30 minutes but by then I usually forget I was hungery, atleast until my stomach reminds me) Then we are back at #1 EAT TO LIVE ~ DONT LIVE TO EAT Keeping busy with the kids is a great distraction. I would like to do a 5 day pouch test once a month to help keep these lessons real. Would anyone else like to use the 5 d pt as a maintenance tool monthly with me? I am thinking the first monday of every month starting the 5 day PT. Gearing up for a sucessful month! -

Weight loss is not the intent of the 5 Day Pouch Test http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/group-5-day-pouch-test-96242/index8.html This is the link to the thread where we are doing a group pouch test starting Monday 24th. Here is the link that tells what the 5 DPT is exactly. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ THERE ARE SOME GREAT RECIPES ON THIS SITE! You must drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day. Days 1 & 2: Liquid Protein low-carb protein shakes, broth, clear or cream soups, sugar-free gelatin and pudding. Day 3: Soft Proteins Recipes for Day 3 The next three days you get to eat as much as you want as often as you want! Ahhh, but there's a catch: it has to be solid protein and you only get 15 minutes each time you sit down to eat. No drinking 30 minutes before or after meals and no drinking with your food. A dry pouch will hold your soft protein longer helping your to feel full and fed longer. Protein Recommendations: canned fish (tuna or salmon) mixed with lemon and seasoned with salt and pepper, eggs cooked as desired seasoned with salt pepper and/or salsa, fresh soft fish (tilapia, sole, orange roughy), baked or grilled, and lightly seasoned. Cottage cheese is a good protein and you can include it on Day 3 Day 4: Firm Protein Recipes for Day 4 Protein Recommendations: ground meat (beef, turkey, lamb) cooked dry and lightly seasoned, shellfish, scallops, lobster steamed and seasoned only with lemon, salmon or halibut steaks, grilled and lightly seasoned. By now you should be experiencing that familiar tightness that will reassure you that your pouch is working. Remember to drink plenty of water between meals. Take some time to meditate and rediscover the wonder of your pouch. Day 5: Solid Protein Protein Recommendations: white meat poultry cooked dry and lightly seasoned, beef steak (if tolerated) grilled or broiled. Day 5 Recipes Remember to chew chew chew. Measure your portion (4-6 ounces) and eat only until you feel your pouch tighten. Remember, only 15 minutes per meal, so you'll have to work fast to chew your food completely. By now you should be out of any carb cycle you were in and perhaps you have lost a pound or two. You will have new confidence in your pouch and your ability to work the tool for your health and emotional well being. Day 5 Poultry Recipes Don't go hungry! Remember, you can eat as often as you want as long as it is solid protein, consumed without liquids and measured in 4-6 ounce portions. -

Migranes are terrible. I am sorry. Yu didnt choose to be sick Sometimes I think people can be so harsh. Ok, some 5 day pt food ideas...... For the drink stage I like plenty of home made raw soy milk with a tbs of my favorite coffee creamer for flavoring. carrot juice is a great pick me up and something savory.... saute WELL chopped onions add one can of cream of chicked soup mix blend until smooth. add 1/2 gal chicken stock and bring to boil. Beat in 2 eggs. This is great when I feel like I need to eat something. This is as close as it gets. Good protien with the eggs. Here is one of my favorite toppings for cottage cheese. I call it Sunny Zuccini Jam (I have had alot of zuccini ripe. LOL ) grate 2 lg Zuccini and mix with 1 can of crushed pinnapple, 1 cup of sugar and 2 cups of Water. boil minutes and turn off burner than add 2 pkgs of orange or peach Jello powder. mix and pour into hot clean jars. fill and flip, let rest until cool. this is a yummy treat on top of MANY things. But cottage cheese is healthier than toast which it is also good on. lol on stage one we can blend almost any kind of your favorite fruits together and it is good. put some of the fruit juice into the icecream maker and have a yummy summer time treat. just some Ideas. I find having my body fed right helps with my headaches after it is done withdrawaling from its addictions. Buy my body is different than anyone elses. good luck time to get an actual meal plan written out. I will post it here when I get it done. But I need to get my little guy down for a nap. -

5 weeks post op, flipped port fixed, first fill
Lovinglapbandliving posted a blog entry in Blog 67084
5 weeks post op and I had to have a second surgery because the port had turned to the point where it was impossible to get to to fill. So far I have paid $100 in transportation for 2 trips to the Surgeon, $415 surgeon fees and I finally have my first fill of 1.5 cc. I didnt realize the lapband was going to be so expensive to maintain but thru it all I still feel it is totally worth it! I have lost 16lbs in 5 weeks. Eventhough I have little restriction I am loosing weight because I decided to partake in the 5 day pouch test monday thru friday until I have reached the all elusive "Sweet Spot". I refuse to gain weight thru this "bandster hell" My family is very supportive, my inlaws are not and I WILL NOT allow then to think even for a second that this is again another waist of time and money. I have spent so much thru the years trying to Battle Obesity on my own! With the lapband I will not fail. MOVING FORWARD! The 5 day PT get a little easier each time. And I really Like fish so this is a great one for me. Has anyone heard of ISOPURE??? I have heard it is the BEST protien drink with 40 grams of protien 0 carbs in a 20oz bottle. But it is $3.?? per bottle at the Dr.s Office. Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get ISOPURE?? -

YEA!!!! I am so thankful to the 5day PT. I made it to fill time and lost those pesky pounds I had gained by eating by the band over the holidays and time out of town taking care of grandma. With my fill yesterday he put in enough to finally feel restriction!!! SO THIS IS WHAT IT IT SUPPOSE TO FEEL LIKE! YES, with the band properly adjusted what a difference. I have been able to eat about 1/4 cup! THIS IS SO AWESOME! .....KICKING THAT HUNGER!!!!! What a relief for food, and what I cant eat to be NOT the top thing on my mind! It is like I can live life around Life not food! All that time I was spending tracking calories and measuring,,,now I just eat with the family and chew well. YEA!!!!!!! PRAISE GOD FOR THE INVENTION OF THE LAPBAND!!!! It is like being freed from constant gluttony!!!! I couldnt be happier! and guilt free! FINALLY!! You know the work says if your eye offends the cut it out, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE LAPBAND HAS HELPPED ME OVERCOME! What a GREAT tool! This was my first fill that didnt result in surgery (re: flipped port) It is nioce to have everything working good. by the way my fill level is now 2.75 cc's in a 4 cc band. We tried 3 cc but it felt too tight. I think we found a good spot. I hope it lasts atleast a couple of months. I have heard alot about the band loosening, but we have it pretty full so we CHOULD be good for a while. -

Now that the kids are asleep I can visit a little better. I am sorry if my last post was rash.First when I got on the kids were happy ten it was like the house ERUPTED!. YUCK. Yes, I truely believe the porpose of these boards are to support eachother and to learn as we are all sisters and brothers in this lapband lifestyle. I have seen some AWESOME testimonials for the changes in peoples lives since getting the lapband but these results come at the price of change. Looking back (just 2 months ago) I thought having the lapband ment I could finally eat with the family and just eat smaller amounts and loose weight. I now realize the lapband being in me doesnt garrentee this. only when we have reach the "Sweet spot" where our balance of intake vs restriction has been reached can this be half true and half achieved. I have found my body has a HUGE sensitivity to carbs so I see the BEST results cutting out ALL simple carb and most complex ones. Unfortunately it is like a trigger as soon as I say "NO CARBS THIS WEEK" carbs are all I want ans all the family seems to want. TALK ABOUT PRESSURE! so I know emotionally I CAN NOT say' not this or that" or I end up in this cycle. the band does help with this as when I cave I can only eat so much. Only make a little mess. I was going to keep doing the 5 d PT every monday- Friday but my grandma has been in the hospital alot this week so I have been out of town )very hard to do liquids while travelin) LOL :scared2: So I am happy to be home to hit the grind stone.. This week of eating by the band has shown me what the band is capable of and that I do need a fill. This will have to wait until after pay day. Until then the 5 day PT is the tool I NED to keep me on track. With living by the band on vacation I have GAINED 4 pound!!! OUCH! Yes, I ate more that I though I was capable of whatever I wanted. Out to eat around our rotations at the Hospital. Good news is grandma is doing good. Bad news is I was down to 220 Lbs ( almost to the 2 teens! and I blew it!. I have embraced the we are all human moto and now I look forward to my fresh start on monday. AND BACK TO THE 5 D PT! I know it is the only thing keeping me out of "Bandster Hell" which we have all heard of so many times before. Monday is a week of new begainings, who wants to join me??? One thing I do on the PT is track calories and nutrition- just for my information. My goal is to take in 1000 calories a day so my metabolism doesnt tank. I like to use Livestrong.com/myplate its free! Second, 8 glasses of water/ day but not within 1 hour from meals on days 3-5. Third, Protien- gives my body the nutrition and energy it needs to build on. a MINIMUM of 40% of calorie intake. BUT I get as much as I can!. I really Like Isopure. it costs $3.25 per 20oz bottle which has 40g of Protein and I will use one whole bottle on the liquid only days then half of one on the other 3 days. 4th- LOW carbs- My only splurge here is the coffee creamer I put in my homemade soymilk to add some YUM factor into the soymilk. But hey, it is minimal. And 5th, I take my kids for a walk first thing every morning to keep that metabolism up. ( laps around the grain bins is 1.5 miles LOL :wink2: ) I know this i a little different than the book but it is what My body responds best to. You dont need to do what I do to join me the Normat 5 day Pouch test is hard enough! I think of mine at 5 day PT (Physical Training)- getting me ready for the week end. LOL the week end it the REAL pouch test for me! LOL :cursing: well good luck to all. Who needs a fresh start and wants to join me?!?! -

GREAT JOB EVERYONE! So many are sooing some great results. I havce seen some great questions. I will do my best with my 2 cents to help with them. What about gaining weight back after the PT? OK, Just so we can recap the goal of the 5 day PT... One goal is to retrain our minds to pay closer attention to the lapband pouch we have paid so much for. To relearn how some foods slide (BIG NO NO's-they ignore our bands) Other foods will help us to FEEL our bands! This is why we have the liquid, soft, medium and hard protien stages. We have to re-tune into how our lapband responds to different foods. Weight loss and breaking those pesky plateau's are both great purks but cant be the only goal. NOT to see how much food we can eat without breaking the rules... If we dont take some of these lessons ino our daily lives after the 5 D PT then we shouldnt have even gotten the lapband in the first place because you will just be disappointed. and it will take ALOT longer to see results if at all. Day 3-5- how often do we eat? the idea is to feel satisfied. the first 2 days will teach us what real hunger feals like not head hunger. Learn this Q- well. It is then that we should be eating in days 3-5 and then on. and then only eat 15 minutes or so. he idea again is to not feel FULL but just NOT HUNGERY! The band is a tool to change our life style habits. not to make it so we CANT EAT! small portions more often, chew food well, eat good protiens, not simple carbs, stop when not hungery....... some people can do these things naturally and for the rest of us there is the lapband. I will be back to check in.... Good luck to alll!!!! -
How do you know when you have eaten too much??
Lovinglapbandliving replied to pephlin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
oh yea, I too went to TJ for my band. and I have had great continued support from the team down south. You really need to talk to your DR. in Mexico and they SHOULD support you thru every turn. I hope you wont let them be passive. The lapband is a journey and You cant do it alone! -
How do you know when you have eaten too much??
Lovinglapbandliving replied to pephlin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also had restricted my calories TOO much, I was down to 600-800/day or so and hit a plateau! so I upped my calories to 1000 and started to focus on getting in enough protien and lots of water! this really helped. I still dont feel any restriction so I will be keeping it going on my own until I can start to feel the band. -
First Fill Experiences For The Mayo BANDitos
Lovinglapbandliving replied to John337's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you are not alone! I DO understand, I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME! My revision surgery was just about 2 weeks ago. ANd I finally have my first fill of 1.5 cc which they did at the time of surgery. I have been going to a general surgeon in pasco washington for my fills since My lapband surgeon Dr. Kelly is in TJ. Dr. Kelly was willing to fix it for free! After talking to Dr. Heap (surgeon in pasco) he offered to reposition the port for less than what it would have costed for the plane ticket to TJ so I had it done here. I too am self pay so I TOTALLY know how it hurts to think of ALL of the expense and all I want to do is just be healthy! Look to the bright side... you know what the problem is and how to fix it. If you would like to read my blog for the messy details about the whole port thing please feel fre. I hope it offers you some comfort. I am now abol to start getting my fills as regular people do. I hope to find my sweet spot sooner than later so I can really start getting this weight off. Dont give up. I have found a bottle of Isopure a day has really helped! Good luck! -
I get this painful hunger also. and I think it affects everyone differently. I think for 1 being obese means I was NOT use to what really hungery is suppose to feel like so it took me by surprize. And 2 the stomach is full of nerves in and around it. the band being in place could make the whole stomach area more sensitive and so the nerves send thier relays differently than they have in the past. I have felt that cramping kind of pain before also and yes it is no fun. But as many have said our bodies were created for servival and they will do all they can to tell us what they need. Eating a nibble 5 time a day should keep us all from this level of pain. This is my two cents, Hope this help.

I am with you girl!!! Day one went great. Day two we went to town. I was good all morning. Soy milk carrot juice and isopure. MMMMM until I ran out!!! by 3 I was starving. so I took my kids out to Mongolian BBQ which is one of those places where we can load up a bowl with meat veggies noodles and sauces and they cook it on a round grill right in front of us. So I figured if I was going to break the PT I was going to do it with just meat and veggies (no noodles) which really are my favorite. So I ate lapband style. But real food. And we had leftovers of the same for dinner. Man I woke up HUNGERY this morning day 3!!!!!!!!! YUCK I am just going to call it quits for this week because I know the weekends are impossible. BUT NOT GIVING UP! MONDAY I WILL GET A FRESH START AND I WILL SUCCEED IN THE 5 DAY PT.

I already can feel the difference after the PT has started. This morning I drank 16 oz right down before feeling full. by 3pm this afternoon I had the same satisfied feeling after an 8oz cup. So I know I had stretched it out grazing all weekend. I am glad I am doing the 5 day pt to get back on the ball. here is the total nutrition facts at the end of today. I drank ALOT of soymilk (yes with a little creamer) Isopure, and a small dinner splurge(3 bites of tune Noodle cassaroll) the calories and Nutrition %'s are on track so all is good.
