Your discreption of your experience sounds exactly like what I am going thru right now. I knew (a year ago) when I had my third fill that it was too tight because I couldn't hardly get anything down and I had terrible heartburn. But I haven't done anything about it because I like the restriction. But now I have lost my voice, I throw up mucas in the middle of the night and my throat is sore. Plus I have had a cough for way too long. My regular doctor said it was acid reflux and I know I need to get an unfill to clear this up. My appointment is next week. I wish I hadn't let this go for so long.

What did you tell your employer & co-workers?

I told my co-workers and I wish I hadn't. Remember you can always tell, but you can't take it back. -
Dr. Hormuz Irani - Looking for Dr. Irani patients
georgegirl posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am working thru my insurance requirements and hope to begin the insurance approval process in a couple of months. I am curious about other Bakersfield patients experiences with the lap band and how happy they were with Dr. Irani. Thanks! -
80 grams of protein!!
georgegirl replied to Ashley0814's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5'9'' and my nutritionist told me 90 grams of protein!! I have found small cans of tuna and chicken work well in my diet. 3 oz cans have 20g of protein with only 90 calories and zero carbs. My hair has also been falling out but I just got serious about getting my protein in each day so I'm hopeful to see some improvement. Good Luck! -

9 months in and confused
georgegirl replied to comtemplating's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me I a full when I start to feel a little burn, like heartburn. I can feel that and I know I need to stop eating, even though my brain says more please! -
Something clicked in my brain and I suddenly get it! I need to diet with the lap-band. It doesn't work all by itself. I was banded 8/25/09 and have been hovering at 30 lbs lost, but haven't been seriously dieting or exercising. And today I realized, I am not using this as the tool it was intended. I will diet, and this tool will make me successful where shear will power has failed me in the past. Although I have been reading other's blogs, for some reason it finally really clicked this morning. I am ready to diet, and know I can really stick to it this time!

Anyone Banded 8/31/09 or last week of August?
georgegirl replied to tke100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 8/25/09. I have only lost 34 lbs and I have to admit I haven't been trying hard enough. I had a second fill about 4 weeks ago and do feel full but the old head hunger is still a problem. I have been told that people really start to see weight come off at the 6 month mark. I don't know if it is because they finally reach their sweet spots but that is what I'm hoping. -
That's great. I have only had one fill and really don't feel much restriction, although I am definately eating less than before. I hope my second fill gives me the restriction you are experiencing. I am at 230 and still feel like 200 is a far off dream if I don't buckle down.

I like Low Carb Slimfast and the Atkins shake. For more protein I add some protein whey powder in a blender with ice and that realy works for me. If you are allowed, add a banana. The protein powder ups the protein by 20 grams so that really helps.

I also suffer from panic attacks and am on Lexapro. I had a bad experience from the drugs used in surgery. I had a severe reaction to the Vicadin I took when I got home and had to call my doctor. It was the worst attack I have ever had. My doctor told me to stop the medication, take my Lexapro and some Benedryl to counter the reaction. Within a few hours I was feeling better. I still can't be sure if I reacted to the Vicadin or the medication they gave me at the hospital for nausia. The nurse had said that one side effect is anxiety and I was praying I would be fine. I would suggest you talk to your surgeon and let him know you concerns. And know if an attack sets in, you will recover from it. On the upside, I never experienced any nausia.

If you didn't tell many people about your surgery...
georgegirl replied to timetobefree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told the people I work with but not my parents/sibblings. I wish I hadn't told the people I work with because I feel like they are watching my every step when I eat something. But on the plus side, they have been very supportive. I've lost 30 lbs and so far my parents haven't even noticed. I figure if they notice I'm eating less over the holidays I'll just say I'm trying to diet. Everyone is used to hearing that from me anyways. -
Restriction after 1st fill???
georgegirl replied to gbakerc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am relieved to hear I am not the only one not experiencing restriction after one fill. My doctor said to come back in a couple of months, when I feel I need more, but I already feel like I need more and it has only been a couple of weeks. -
It is such a treat to go out to dinner and not be able to finish everything on my plate. Before the band, I was still hungry after everything was gone but now....I am the one offering to share. That never happened before!!!! :huh2:

I was banded on 8/25/09 and I had trouble telling when I was full also. I just measured everything and didn't go over. I made sure I only drank 1/4 cup of the protein drink at a time. After two weeks my doctor told me I could go on pureed foods. Your doctor should tell you at your follow up appointment when you can start the next phase. Good luck on your journey!

3 1/2 weeks post op
georgegirl replied to beeba7597's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love this site. I am also 3 1/2 weeks out and don't feel like I have any restriction. It is so nice to look at other's entries and know this is normal. I am sticking to the plan, including protein shakes everyday, and ready for the first fill! -
August 25th Bandsters
georgegirl replied to Twnkl2os's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on 8/25. The last couple of days I have been hungry. I see my doctor tomorrow so I am hoping I can start pureed. I plan to pick up a different protein drink tonight. I like Slim Fast Low Carb but I can't really drink 3 a day plus squeeze in something else for variety. -
I am only 6 days post op and am curious what 'stuck' feels like. How do you get unstuck?
-
The hospital told me to take the outer bandages off after 48 hours but NOT to take the strips off. Those have to come off by themselves. Even if they come loose at one end, let them come off by themselves. As far as hunger goes, it helps me to know I can drink 1/4 cup every half hour. That seems to help. Especially with the protein shakes. I am 6 days post off. Good Luck!

I have been on my pre-op diet for a week and have lost about 8 lbs! I am proud of staying on it and it is such a rush to see the scale go DOWN for a change! I do hate when husband and the few people I have told about the procedure say, "if you could just keep this up, you wouldn't have to have the surgery".

OK, Who has an AUGUST surgery date??!!
georgegirl replied to Jodi73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is scheduled for August 25th but a visit with my doctor yesterday to go over my lab results showed I am anemic so my surgery may have to be delayed. I am so bummed. I have been taking iron supplements for a few weeks now so hopefully a re-test will clear me. I don't see how someone who usually eats as much as I have can be deficient in anything-----except self control!!! -
I will never read the words 'Morbidly Obese' on my medical chart again!
