Hi Everyone, I will be having surgery on Tuesday at 8:30. I'm very excited! I have lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet, I almost can't believe it. I'm thrilled and really looking forward to the life change. I'm very nervous about the surgery just because I haven't ever been through one (aside from wisdom teeth). I took some before pictures a few days ago and can't wait to start posting new ones!!! Kim

Hello Everyone! I'm feeling up to it so I thought I'd post my story. It went well! They were also running a bit behind at my location so I was about an hour later than I was supposed to be. The last thing I remember is the surgery tech asking me how tall I was (5'9") and him saying, "you're a tall drink of water". LOL I woke up coughing and was in recovery. I was really, really nautious but didn't throw up or anything. They were very attentive and got me medicine through the iv right away. I was also in a fair amount of pain from the gas. It felt, and still feels a bit, like a large person was sitting on my chest and my back. I also managed to get my period this morning, thank you Mother Nature. They gave me some medicine for that too. After a pretty short time I felt well enough to get up and get dressed and I was on my way. I was amazed at how quickly I truly felt well enough to leave. I was dead set against letting them rush me out the door. We had a 1 hour and 45 minute drive home and it was pretty good. We stopped once so I could get out and walk around. I took somemore pain medicine. Burping helped me a lot to get the gas out. I would say that at this point I have virtually no more gas pains. Now, the band site and incisions are another story. Having no prior surgeries I really didn't know what to compare it to. I feel like someone kicked me really, really hard below my breastbone. However, it's managable. I'm comfortable sitting and walking but it's the getting up and down that are hard right now. So far so good. I'll be thinking about all of my July Jewels this month, keep me updated!!! Kim:thumbup:

Hi Everyone, I'm 34, 5'9" and at my all time highest weight of 275. I really couldn't believe it when I saw the scale. I graduated from high school at 200 pounds and looked great. I got down to about 175 in college and looked amazing. Then over the period of the next 14-15 years I've put on 100 pounds. That is really shocking. I haven't weighed below 200 pounds in at least 10 years. My surgery process has gone very quickly due to a sad reason. Both of my parents had type II diabetes and both of them died of pancreatic cancer within 3 years of each other. I am still reeling from this loss but am very afraid about my own health. I am very nervous but so thrilled about the prospect of being extremely healthy. July 7th - my new birthday!

July Jewels 2009
Columbus9 replied to 1hotchocolate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG ladies, it's coming up quickly. I go down to Cincinnati on Monday for my nutrition class. My boyfriend is coming with me. We were having a sushi lunch today and he said, "are you sure you want me to know the rules". HA! I got into this predicament knowing the rules but not following them. I have a feeling there will be some fights coming our way but he is a sweetheart to be on this ride with me. Besides he already has a doll of a girlfriend, a year from now he'll have a HOT girlfriend. -

July 7th here! -
I went to Cincinnati this week to meet with Dr. Curry. I had a very good visit and felt that everyone treated me with respect. Since I am self-pay, I am off to the races. I go back in a few weeks to meet with the dietitian and get an EKG, I think that's the next part, lol. I almost fainted when I saw my weight on the scale. It reassured me and my boyfriend AND my sister that this is the right decision for me. It is going to be expensive but I have paid thousands of dollars for Curves, Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, etc. My surgery is scheduled for July 7th.....yikes! Has anyone had the "one incision" procedure. It is now available with Dr. Curry but it costs $1,000 more than the 4-5 incision surgery. Worth it?

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site. I learned about it when I went to an informational meeting about the Lap Band. About me: I'm female, 34, 5'9" and currently weigh 265 pounds. This is the most I have ever weighed as an adult. The least I have ever weighed since high school is 175, I looked amazing. Both of my parents died of cancer and both had type II diabetes. I'm on my way, I'm insulin resistant. My sister is overweight and had gestational diabetes with both of her pregnancies. I feel like Lap Band surgery is a very extreme form of weight loss, however, I feel like weighing 265 pounds is extreme. I love to walk and ride my bike but it has gotten so painful. Tonight I'm going out for "Thursday Night Ladies 80's" at a local club. I love it, but within 5 minutes of dancing with my friends, I end up sweaty and tired. I usually keep up with those skinny girls but my back hurts and leave exhausted. I have a wonderful boyfriend who is gorgeous! He is actually hot! I only weighed about 15 pounds less when we met. He loves me and thinks I'm beautiful, he just wants me to be healthy. I had an "a-ha" moment when I was cleaning out my parent's house. My boyfriend found a picture of my mother, she was in her mid-50's and was walking with the aid of a walker. This was due to her obesity. I'm so thrilled to find this site. I'm meeting with my surgeon next Wednesday down in Cincinnati and look forward to sharing the findings of our meeting!
