  1. I was first banded in Feb 2005 with the 4cc band and lost 78 lbs. It was great and I made my target weight!! Then around summer 08 I started gaining weight back slowly but steadily. It was really frustrating since I had been working out and it was swimsuit time! I went in for a fill and did a barium swallow to find out that my band had slipped. I went in to see my surgeon about 2 weeks later and scheduled the replacement for 11/12/08. I am so disappointed in this new band that holds 10cc. They said it's new and improved but they weight loss is slower. Let me tell you what! I gained another 20 lbs:thumbdown: after having the surgery and have just now begun to lose some of that excess weight! I'm just wondering if there are any others that have had their small band replaced with the new "improved" bigger one?
  2. I knew mine had slipped because I was getting sick a lot. Mainly in the middle of the night with acid reflux. I would get acid reflux from eating anything. I went to the dr and he had me do a barium swallow.

    Band getting too tight

Hi Lil, Did you do a a barium swallow the last time you were filled to make sure the band hasn't slipped? Mine slipped last year after having it for 3yrs. I had to get it replaced in November because it went un-noticed for too long. I also had problems at night and would have to get up, due to acid reflux. Some people do notice that their band seems tighter from excercising so it could be that as well. I would definately go to the Dr. asap and have them check you out to avoid having to go through any more than you have to! I had to call my Ireland friend to get the conversion from stone to pound to figure out what 3 1/2 was! I hope this helps some and that everything turns out ok for you!

8cc in band with no restriction

My initial weight was 213 for my first surgery. I needed to lose 20 when it was replaced and I didn't trust myself enough to do it on my own. Even though I exercise and watch what I eat, the band gives me that reassurance that I need and I wasn't willing to give that up quite yet. Yes, the first bands held 4 and 6cc's and people lost weight a lot faster but there is a lot of slippage with those. I had acid reflux all the time which ended up causing mine to slip. I love the band and what it has been able to help people accomplish!! It's a wonderful tool to help guide you to make the right choices. I was just use to having the smaller one for 3yrs so it's taking some adjusting for me. I go for a fill today though, yeah!

8cc in band with no restriction

I've been extremely frustrated at not having any restriction as well. I have 7.2cc in a 10cc band. I am going tomorrow for my 5th fill. My band was replaced 11/12/08 from a 4cc band to the bigger one. I lost my weight fast the first go around and kept it off for 3yrs. I've actually gained weight since the surgery. I only needed to lose 20 but instead gained it so now I need 35-40 off! What's been motivating me is journaling my food (for accountablilty) and exercising 4-5 days a week. I have been doing a lot of weights so maybe some of it is due to that. They did tell me to make sure and eat solid meats as protein instead of protein shakes/smoothies as I had been told before. There are the many ways to eat emtpy calories and not lose the weight as well. Believe me I know them all!! I couldn't eat crap with my old band! But I also don't miss that nast acid reflux either!! Hopefully, we can all get to where we are filling restriction soon and fight this battle of the bulge!! :crying:
  6. I am journaling my food and excercise on self.com, it's free and easy. Since I've had a band for over 4 yrs now, I've got all the eating habits down. I do occasionally eat something sweet but not on a daily occurance. Maybe I'm just stressing out too much about it. I'm not trying to lose in in record time but I surely didn't expect to have gained weight after having it replaced. I guess you have to have had the replacement surgery to know how it feels because it's definately not the same this go around. I had maintained my weight loss for almost 3yrs. I do feel restriction after eating a few bites of food but then I'm hungry again in 20 minutes. I will keep on trucking though, journaling my food and working out since I know it's bound to pay off. Guess, I just expected to have 15-20 lbs off since my surgery date. Not to have gained! I only really need to lose 18 lbs to be in my weight range so I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much. My husband and I are planning on getting pregnant this summer so I'm not going to let it stop me. HeatherO-Congratuations on your upcoming bundle of joy, how exciting. I may have to get with you later about the pregnancy experience with the band. JRFAN88-looks like we are in the exact same boat and at the same weight loss and goal too. Good luck with your success!
  7. Well they claim that it's newer and better at this surgeons office because it has little nodules that help keep it from slipping as much as the older one. I actually have the 10cc now and had the 4cc before. It's just very frustrating to me since I had lost 78 lbs in less than 8 months with my old band. I'm still up 11 lbs from my last surgery date and workout 5 days a week. I know with the band before I was told to do a lot of protein shakes and with this one they are saying to eat more solid protein. It's a hard transition when you've been in routine of something for 4 years.
