    Lap Band versus Bypass

I will be having my banding done at Kaiser SSF. I don't have a date yet but will be meeting with psych and the surgeon on 08/25. I work at a hospital facility (not Kaiser SSF) and spoke with a surgeon who just finished a fellowship in bariatric surgery. She really poo-pooed lap banding and said she did not meet one single person who was banded and was glad they had done it. She said that people with lap bands are hungry all the time and she felt it was silly to go through the surgery and then carry around this device inside all the time. I can't get past having my entire innerds replumbed. To me that seems beyond my ability to comprehend. Any words of advice here? Opinions?
  4. I am pre-banding and I've been reading that for some people their interest in some types of food changes. Has anyone found that to be true??

Does Anyone Use Bariatric Advantage Products?

I did what Tessiekay did - I ordered two sample packets. I didn't want to get stuck with a whole bottle of them if I didn't like them.
  6. I was wondering if anyone uses Bariatric Advantage products? If so, what products do you use? I am mainly looking for the Vitamins I am going to need after I have my lap band placed. I just went to my orientation class at Kaiser South San Francisco and am looking into what vitamins I am going to need. Any and all suggestions and input gladly welcome!!

    BMI too high for banding?

Thanks for all your posts!! It really helps. I haven't met with the surgeon yet. I'm just at the very beginning stages of this whole thing. I will be banded (hopefully) at Kaiser in South San Francisco. I have my orientation class on Monday, June 15. So, I have a long way to go before surgery. My question came after reading other boards and comments by other people, so I was curious.
  8. I've been reading a lot of posts on this board, books, and anything I can get my hands on. I have a BMI of 58 (pre 10% weight loss before surgery) and it has been mentioned that doctors won't band someone with my BMI, even if I lose my 10%. I have no health conditions and I want to get this weight off before I develop any issues. I don't want to have bypass surgery because of the risks. Anyone out there who can help?
  9. I'm at the very beginning stages of the process and have nearly 200 pounds to lose. I went to the orientation at Kaiser in South San Francisco about a year ago and was really put off with the mentality of the orientation. They were telling us that we were "diseased" and I walked away with such a downer feeling. I did not walk away feeling positive at all. Being in the medical field, I am well aware of what this is going to take on my part and the risks and benefits of the procedure. I would like to connect with someone who has been through this at the Kaiser facility in South San Francisco. Anyone out there?
