    Vision Changes Post WLS

Did your prescription change for the worse? I noticed that right after my surgery my eyesight was definitely worse for a couple of weeks but it has returned to "normal" since then. My doctor had not heard of that happening before.
  2. Haha VSGAnn2014, that's awesome! Your response just gave me a big smile!
  3. I am on day 10 of my pre-op diet and it is kicking my butt. I feel so weak and nauseated most of the time. I'm consuming around 500-700 calories per day. My surgery is scheduled for Monday. My question is, for those of you that are post-op, how long do you feel this way? Or, did you feel this way when you were doing your pre-op diet. I don't know how much longer I can do this.
  4. Is it safe to take an Omeprazole the day before surgery? I sure wish it wasn't Sunday so I can call the doctors office and ask.
  5. I am on my second day of the pre-op diet. From the "doctors orders" I did consume 63 grams of Protein yesterday but it only came up to 566 calories. Does that seem right? Of course, it seems low to me. I woke up today feeling weak and with a headache. Is this how you feel for the whole two weeks before surgery? Does your body get used to the few amount of calories? Just curious what I am looking at for the next two weeks. Any thoughts?

    Not feeling well at all

@@HopeandAgony - I do not have my gallbladder either. I talked to my sister-in-law, who is a Nurse Manager and who had the gastric bypass about 13 years ago. She said to go ahead and take the Omeprazole that I have prescribed to me for heartburn. Just since last night I haven't felt as nauseated so I am really happy about that. A few days ago I saw my surgeon and told him that I was taking the Omeprazole as needed so I'm pretty sure that it is okay that I take them up through tomorrow. Just nothing after midnight on Sunday night. One and a half days to go. I have to keep my eyes on the prize! Good luck to you!!

    Not feeling well at all

@InnerSurferGirl - I am at least consuming all of the Water that I need. I will stay in touch with my NUT. I probably should have called her already. @@MissMac - Thank you for responding. All of your responses have made me feel better. I really appreciate it and really needed it hear it!

    Not feeling well at all

Thank you all for your responses. They do help. @@cbruce125 - I couldn't agree with you more! @@BLERDgirl - fruit or fruit juices are a no no for me but thanks for the idea. @InnerSurferGirl - I have the same pre-op diet as HopeandAgony. 2 Protein shakes, 4 ozs protein (food) and 1/2 cup veggies. My doctor said consuming 500-800 calories is the goal. You are allowed to have 2 sugar free jellos, 2 sugar free ice pops and 2 servings of chicken/beef broth each day, in between meals. My problem is that I feel so nauseated all of the time that I have to force myself to get in the 2 shakes, 4 oz protein and sometimes I can't even get the veggies down. I know I only have two days left so I will deal with it but my original question was do these feelings go away? I just don't want to live like this for the next year.

    Not feeling well at all

Thanks Solmar. I don't even feel hungry. Everything taste nasty anyway. I just hate feeling so weak all of the time. I'm trying to hang in there but I find that I am questioning my decision to even do this because I don't want to feel like this forever! Good luck to you though! Sophie, how far post-op are you? Do you still feel weak?

    pre-op diet

@@eccentricprof, WOW. I haven't heard of anyone else not having to do the pre-op diet but then again, I haven't asked anyone either. It is so interesting to me how different each doctor's "rules" are. I see that treblecutie can have some of her shakes with fat free milk where we (I was in a "class" with 27 other people) were told absolutely no milk products. It makes you wonder why there are so many different approaches to the same surgery.

    pre-op diet

I got my Protein mix from the doctors office. Cookies and cream. Surprisingly, not too bad. I'm supposed to have two of those to replace two meals and then 4 oz of protein and a 1/2 cup of non starchy veggies. Plus I can have two sugar free jellos, two sugar free popsicles and two servings of chicken of beef broth per day. What is your pre-op diet like? I'm just curious if they are all basically the same.

    pre-op diet

@treblecutie....I'm hoping that our bodies will get used to the small amount of calories within the next couple of days. When is your surgery date? Mine is the 9th.
  13. Getting sleeved Nov. 9th. Just curious what kind of things that you purchased to help you for after your surgery and what things that are not really necessary? I have heard of things like 2oz & 4oz bowls with lids, someone mentioned a cup warmer (they said because it takes so long to eat that it will keep your Soup and stuff warm), etc... Any suggestions of must-haves???

    Question from a pre-op

Thanks Dub, and everyone, for taking the time to write all of this. I am feeling more prepared everyday. Can't wait!!

    Question from a pre-op

Thanks everyone. I am making my list of things to pick up before my surgery.

    November Sleevers

I'm trying to start a list too. I've never heard of "injury chicken flavored protein". What exactly is that, fabnsab? I was thinking about getting some 2 oz & 4 oz containers. I think that will be helpful. I have heard some people buy little forks, knives and spoons. I wonder if that is necessary or if it really helps? If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them?

    Question from a pre-op

Thanks BLERD, I didn't realize that. I'll put it on the list!

    November Sleevers

HopeandAgony, glad to hear that I am not alone. I am definitely going through with the surgery as well. I read about some people that are making a post surgery 'bucket list' of things that they want to do after surgery that they were not able to do before surgery. I like that idea. I think I am going to do this. I'm totally looking forward to being able to do what the "normal" weight people can do. I'm sure my husband is excited about that too! Keep in touch and good luck to everyone! I know it is going to be hard, emotional, scary and about a hundred other things, but we can do this!!! We deserve it!!!
  19. Dub, you are definitely entertaining! Super happy to hear that your surgery went well. Save me a seat on that bench...Nov. 9th surgery date!

    November Sleevers

Finally got my surgery date. November 9th. I'm excited and nervous all at once. All of a sudden I am doubting whether I can do this (as far as the food part goes). Is anyone else having any doubts? I would love to find a November buddy??
  21. I am a month away from the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I would like to know if anyone has any regrets having their surgeries? Do you miss all of the things that you used to eat and drink? I am starting to worry that since I obviously eat the wrong foods (the foods that taste good but are not good for you) will I be "satisfied" with mostly Protein and veggies? Another concern is (which some might think should not be a concern at all) is that my husband is in a rock and roll band and when I go to one of his gigs (usually once a month or so) I enjoy having a few cocktails. Not that I drink all of the time but I wonder if I am going to regret not being able to do that when I go see him play. Does everyone have these doubts once you are approved for the surgery or am I just being crazy? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Any regrets?

Thank you all for your responses. I feel that I am ready for this surgery and this change in my life. I think that since I just found out today what my surgery date is, I'm starting to freak out a little. I'm sure that is fairly normal, lol. I appreciate all of your honesty and Southern Sleever, thank you for your post. If I do have any of those feelings soon after my surgery, it will be nice to know that I am not the only one. As the "veterans" say, I'm sure it will only get easier for you from here on out. I wish you and everyone else the best of luck and can't wait to be a veteran giving great reports to the newbies someday !

The call I've been waiting for!

I'm still waiting for "the call". It's been 31 days since info was sent to the insurance company. How long was it when you finally got the call? What state are you in? By the way, congrats and good luck!!!
  24. I know this forum is for "post-operation" lap band patients but who better to ask then someone who has already had the surgery. I am seriously thinking about having the surgery for health reasons. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. I have already met with the doctor, psychologist and nutritionist and am waiting to hear back from the insurance company. I have about 80 lbs to lose and just can't seem to stay interested in a "diet" for a long period of time. I love food, as I'm sure that a lot of you do and am afraid that I will regret the surgery if I am not successful with it or can't eat or drink the things that I eat now. I realize that this is the way that I should be eating anyway but I don't trust myself to stick to it. Has anyone else had these reservations? I know that deep down, this is the right thing for me to do but it is hard to be motivated after failing so many times. I have read some great success stories but have also read a few "bad experience" stories which scare me as well. Does anyone have an opinion or advice that they can share with me?
  25. Thank you for responding lisacaron and searock6tracy. I have read many of these forums but for some reason it is nice to know these your words are directed right to me. I know I have a long journey ahead of me and I know there can be some set backs but this is something that I must do. I just can't seem to do it on my own. I will continue to read, research and read more about this and make up my mind. This is the first time I have posted on here so thanks for listening/responding. It is encouraging to know there are people out there that I can discuss this subject with.
