    Surgery tomorrow!!!!

Hi, all I'm home! Everything went well for the most part. Just a few bumps in the road. Will post more tomorrow, kind of a long night and in need of a nap. I'm so electronically challenged. I keep trying to add a ticker but no luck. I followed the instructions on one of the threads but couldn't get it to work, I guess I'll have to see if my ten-year-old can fix it for me. lol

    surgery tomorrow advise

Hi, Alisia. You'll do fine. I had my surgery Thurs. (13th) and just got home late yesterday. Had a few minor bumps with med reactions and nausea. But all is good! Down 22 pouns since my consultation in June!I was very nervous too. Just take a lot deep breaths and think about where you'll be by Christmas. Congrats on your big day and I'll keep you in my prayers.
  5. I've feared the same thing! I guess you're probably still in the hospital. Look forward to hearing about your experience. I'm having my surgery tomorrow!:lol0: Hope all went well for you.

    Pre-op diet day 3

Well it's day 8. TGIF! I haven't been nearly as tired as I thought I would. I only had a slight headache the 2nd day. So all in all it's not been that bad. I just want to chew something and gum isn't getting it. If you chew something and spit it out, does that count? I'm (halfway) kidding. Only 6 more days! :scared0: I am self pay so I checked this afternoon and all 3 checks had cleared the bank (surgeon, hospital, anesthesia). All I have to do now is show up!

    Gifts

Our first Christmas together, my husband bought me a set of pots and pans. I hated to cook back then, so I returned them and bought clothes. Now, I would love to have some new pots. lol After about 15 years of marriage we both decided the best gift was for me to pick out what I wanted, only he has to go shop WITH me and not whine. The gift of time, so to speak.
  9. Glad to hear it gets better! I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I think it's what I've dreaded the most. I scheduled my surgery back in June and since then I've just basically tried to maintain. Now the last two days I've eaten everything in sight! I think I'm going to regret that come tomorrow morning. How did the rest of you do before starting the pre-op? Bob, best wishes on your surgery next week!

    October 1st

Hi, Judy. Where in KY is Upton? I live about 35-40 min from the KY/TN border. My husband and I just started gardening about 3 years ago. Each year we try something new. This was our first year of doing potatoes, not much luck. We had SO much rain in the spring it nealy flooded out the entire garden. Squash, on the other hand, is coming out our ears. It's all been a learning experience. Congratulations on your new date!

    Some are clueless

I finally weaned myself of diet mt. dew. that was sooo hard. I'm with you i LOVE coffee. I never even drank the stuff until I was 32. Now I'm addicted.:drool5: I did stop the creamer last week. Someone had posted that they put some of their EAS Protein drink in their coffee. It's no vanilla caramel but it was pretty good. I had a similar experience in the support group. The leader was very interesting but one lady wouldn't let anyone else get a word in! There always seems to be that one person in a group.
  13. Congratulations on your surgery date! I'm having mine Aug. 13 on a Thurs. and plan to return to work the following Thurs. I, like Vegas, have a desk job. I figured I could limp through 2 days and would have the weekend to crash if I needed to. Very excited and have learned so much on here. I come home everyday and read, read, read. I feel like I know some of you. lol
  14. Oh, wow, loud burping! Hmmm...that will be interesting at work. I hope that doesn't last very long.

To Tell ....or not to tell

At first only my husband and chldren knew, then I decided to tell a few friends. Now I somewhat wish that I hadn't. None of them have ever had a weight problem and of course they've all seen me try a hundred times to loose weight. None of them were negative, they just weren't overly supportive either. I sometimes feel like I'm the "fat friend". I'm the one in the group who makes everyone else feel better about the 10 or 15 extra pounds they carry. With that, it will be interesting to see their response to my weight loss. I'm preparing myself for some drastic changes in a few relationships. I haven't told anyone at work. I just told my boss I was having a hernia repaired. I have lunch with a few co-workers almost everyday so it will be hard to explain the liquid diet for so long. I've struggled with IBS for years so there have been time I couldn't eat for days at a time, but not like a month. I start my pre-op in 10 days so I guess I'd better figure out what to tell them. I don't want to lie, but I definately don't want to tell these people!

    Pre-op diet

I didn't know they made color free. Thanks for the info. I also read someone froze "crystal light" popsicles.
  17. Hi, to all. I'm new to this site. I went for my consultation on Mon., 6/22. I had decided on the band but after I had gone to the seminar a few weeks ago, the sleeve sounded like a better option for me, my surgeon agreed. I'm 37, happily married, mother of two awesome kids (ages 20 and 10). I'm 5'6, 250 lbs. I was very athletic in high school and weighed 115 on my wedding day, 17 years ago. After several personal tradgedies, I became very depressed and ate my way up to 200 and have gradually added the last 50. Like many of you I've been on EVERY diet. I read a post earlier that said she loved to exercise but paid for it later. That's me too. My husband and I have always enjoyed hiking but in the last year it just hurts too much. So, I'm ready to begin to live again! My surgery is scheduled for August 13. :shocked4: For those of you who have already had the surgery, when did you go back to work? I pretty much sit all day at my job but it is very stressful and high paced. I'm hoping to be back in 7 days. Also, dare I ask, what was the level of pain? I've had my gallbladder removed laproscopically, so I'm wondering if it will be any more intense than that. Thanks to all who have posted their experience. It's great to get the insight. I look forward to talking with all of you through this journey.
  18. Thanks for the replies everyone. I had gone to a support group meeting a few weeks ago and everyone there had had the bypass. They were all saying how horrible the pain was.:scared0: That had me a little worried.

    Pre-op diet

I don't start my pre-op until July 29 (surgery is Aug 13) but the surgeon gave me a list. It allows sf popsicles, sf jello, low carb yoguart or cottage cheese every two hours with sf, decaffinated drinks in between. Then clear liquids only two days before surgery. It also said the popsicles and jello could not be red or purple. I guess that leaves lime jello. Hmm.... How's it going today? It's hard to imagine "eating" like this for two weeks. Sure it will be worth it though. Best of luck to you!!!
  20. That's a great question! My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 13. I went yesterday for the pych test and he asked me what I would do instead of eat. I really don't know the answer. I usually overeat when I'm at work when I'm stressed. Which is often. Being at work I can't exactly just get up and go for a walk or file my nails until the urge passes. I too am looking for some alternatives. Best of luck!
  21. I too am a binge eater. Especially when I'm stressed, which with my job is quite often. I went to counseling about 5 years ago and it seemed to be helping but then my ins. would no longer pay and I didn't have $75 a week to go to a shrink. So, 30 lbs later....I've tried reading "self help" books about this but they always say "find something else to occupy your mind". Well if I could do that I would have stopped this a long time ago. I go for my consultation Monday. The binge eating is what worries me the most. I'm terrified of going through this and gaining the weight back. Especially since I will be self pay! I think I've worked through a lot of the "core issue" now it's just a matter of breaking the habit of depending on food. It's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue. There's no one in my family or friends that would understand what a struggle this is! Sorry for the long post.
  22. Just wanted to say hello. I've been on here for about a month but this is my first post. I attended the seminar today and have decided to do the band. My insurance will not cover this so I will be self pay. For those who were self pay, did you have to do the psychiatric consult and about how long did it take to schedule your surgery? I was told to call Monday and set up my consultation with the surgeon. I don't plan on telling anyone other than DH and my children so I'm hoping to meet some friends here to share this journey with.

    Newbie from TN

Top Tier, Thanks for the well wishes! How long is your pre-op diet? Is it all liquids? Called for my consult appointment, first time I called was given an appointment at the end of July, ugh, called back to check the schedule of the other surgeon in the office and he is squeezing me in on Mon., June 22!:bored: That was killing me to think I had to wait a month just for the consult. I too am very impatient. Actuall I looked into doing this a few years ago but my ins. would not cover it and at the time couldn't self pay. Now is the time! Will be praying for you next week. Keep us posted on your progress.
