I'm going to have to get a Betty Crocker cookbook ASAP. I'm all about the non-fancy recipes!!! I like to eat stuff when I can pronounce its name. Thanks for the reply!! I'm open to any ideas and suggestions.

very OT -- for anyone who has ever worked in the legal atmosphere

Good for a laugh... Forgive me for being OT, couldn't help posting though. Hi Johni, I don't have exactly what you do, probably not even close, but I do feel like I have air trapped in my stomach/esoph similar to a burp. Nothing really helps it, just kind of goes away on its own. That's the closest I can relate, and it's probably not the same thing. Does your doctor have a number that you can call afterhours to reach him if you are very concerned?

Hi Hi I sent you an e-mail.

Hey James, I had half a cup of chili tonight and it went down well for me and I feel full. We were banded the same time, but I don't have any restrictions as to "chunks" in my soups/food. Just the normal, ya know, "chew chew chew."

Here's a question: I just got banded on the 5th through BCBS. My husband is joining the AF this month and so I got banded just in time before our good insurance ran out. Do you-all think that Tricare will cover fills or complications? I really hope so, or I may be up a creek without a paddle.
-
I had my surgery on the 5th, and I'm scheduled to go back on the 20th. I don't know if he'll do a fill then, his assistant said maybe, maybe not.

Any other post-op's ever experience this?

Hiya Brian, I was banded on Sept 5 as well. I know exactly what you're talking about with the burp or pressure stuck in your stomach/airway. Yesterday I was pacing up and down the halls of my house, hoping that the burp would emerge. No luck. My husband came home and I demanded that he burp me. Didn't work. I really hope this resolves itself soon, I can't walk around the rest of my life with a stuck burp. Gas-X didn't help the burp for me, also tried Rolaids. Maybe we should try the Bean-o. If you find a cure, please please don't keep it to yourself. Mallorie -
Good luck to everyone that's to be banded this next week! I'm feeing much better every day. Avasa, I would say the second day after surgery is the worst. I felt great on the way home from the hospital and the rest of that day, but that was obviously from the morphine. The second day I would rate the pain at about a 5. It's gotten better since then. If you're getting liquid pain killers, see if the pharmacy will flavor them for you because the liquid Hydrocodone was very very unpleasant. The pain may have been less, maybe at a 3 or 4, if I had taken the pain meds more, I just couldn't stand the taste, and it also made me pretty nauseas. Good thing to have gotten all of your supplies beforehand. I printed off that thread about postop items and took it with me to Wal-Mart. I got almost everything, but the things I didn't... well, that's what I needed most. May I suggest definitely picking up some Benadryl anti-itch cream just in case you have an allergic reaction to the surgical tape like I did. I welted up and it was very itchy. Also, be sure to get Milk of Magnesia. Your GI system is going through enough, it doesn't help to be stopped up! Good luck everyone!!!

For my insurance to cover, I had to: 1. Get a referral letter from my PCP. 2. Get one psych eval. 3. Go see a nutritionist one time. 4. Get a letter of medical clearance from my PCP (this was right before surgery, and he did an EKG and chest x-ray.) That's it. I think I had it a lot easier than most people on this board. My husband's insurance coverage is amazing. We have BlueCross through Pepsi, and they cover everything. During Easter weekend, I had severe migraine headaches, to where I was blacking out. Weirdest thing because I had never had those before. Ended up going to the emergency room 3 times that weekend, (second and third time from A VERY severe spinal headache) found out I had a cyst in my brain, saw a neurosuregon and neurologist etc, MRIS, CAT Scans, all that stuff, and all I've had to pay out of that some $30,000 total bills was $300 for the ER visits. Pepsi's great. I'm going to miss it when my husband joins the Air Force this month.

Anyone Use Lortab Liquid For Post-Op Pain?
mcw12985 replied to ItsGottaGo!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yuch Yuch Yuch. I have generic Hydrocodone and I used it only the first two days. It tastes DISGUSTING. I also think it contributed to my nausea. I started using the liquid Tylenol, Cherry, and it tastes just as gross. I'd rather stick out the pain. I should go get some chewables... that would be easier I think. My antibiotic is not as bad... it's red and has to be refrigerated, CEFACLOR. -
Rose, Please Please be careful with the phentermine. It can cause very serious heart problems. :/

Hi Everyone. Tuesday was my day and now it's Friday. I am feeling much better in terms of soreness. But what is this burp that I can't burp? For the past 6 hours I have had a burp (I know this isn't pleasant) stuck in my stomach and will not come out. I've walked, had my DH pat me on the back like a little baby, nothing works. Aside from that, I've been eating jello, and now I'm on to Malt-O-Meal. It goes down very easily. I think I might make some mashed tatoes tonight, see how that does. Today is the first day that I'm starting to get hungry. I was watching TV and saw a Red Lobster commercial and it made me remember how much I love their little cheese garlic biscuit things. Yum. Yum. Well, that's my update at the moment. I go back to work on Monday, so hopefully everything will be well by then and the blasted burp will go away.

My breath is kickin; so gross. I bought the Listerine pocket packs today and have been shovin them down. It doesn't even help to brush my teeth more. Yuch Yuch Yuch. I'm ready to get out of the liquid stage and have some real food so it will go away. I remember Ketosis from when I did the Atkins/Southbeach diet. Yuch.

Ugh. I'm 2 days postop and there are certain foods that if I even THINK about, I get sick to my stomach. I stocked up on several soups before surgery, and now when I go look at them in the cabinet, it makes me sick. It's the weirdest thing. I think about soups/broths and get sick, but I'm okay if I think about jello. I hope this passes soon. I'm so scared about throwing up while my band is so newly placed. And my goodness I know it would hurt, my whole abdomen hurts if I cough.
-
It's me again. I don't feel well. I've had water, one slimfast and one jello today, and I feel extremely nauseous. I also feel like I have a bubble of air in my stomach, almost like a burp that won't surface.

Sorry.. can't be of much help. You left out specifics such as the city and state where you live.

Hey guys. I had my surgery yesterday. I felt great yesterday, pretty sure it was from the morphine. Now I ache all over, of course my abdomen is sore. Yesterday I didn't have any discomfort from the trapped gas I was warned of, but now my shoulders and neck feel like that they have taken a beating. But something I haven't heard about -- my whole face is sore? It hurts to open my mouth. The front part of my neck is sore as well. My jaw, everything. Did anyone else feel as sore as I do? Thanks, Mallorie

Hi. I was banded yesterday. While I am in some pain right now, I think I will feel up to going to work on Monday. The only time I really hurt (and this is one day after surgery, mind you) is when I'm trying to get out of bed. As I'm sitting here at my desk, the pain isn't so bad. So I think in about a week I will feel okay. But let it be your decision. If you feel like you're overdoing yourself in any way, don't go back to work until it's right for YOU. You don't want to risk damaging the band in a rush back to work.

I second what Elisabeth said. You're 18, probably your first year of college, enjoy yourself. I'm 21 and married to my high school sweet heart, but sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if I had dated more people. Don't get stuck. Your personality will change drastically from the age of 18 to 25. Have a great time, just don't get pulled into anything that you can't get out of. Mallorie

Yes, I am still take the hydrocodone, but I think my next dose will be the liquid tylenol .... the hydrocodone is very very unpleasant.

My doctor said that the first few days are liquid, i.e. water, shakes, tea etc. Between 3 and 7 days post op, I can move to stuff like oatmeal, cream of wheat, mashed tatoes, stuff like that. I do that for quite a while before solids. I'm scheduled for my post op appointment on the 20th, so I guess my doctor will give me further instructions then.

I'm feeling really sore today. I think I maybe overdid some things yesterday when I felt great because of the morphine. Stupid me. Now it's kind of hard and pretty painful to get of the bed because you have to use your stomach muscles somewhat. I think I'm hungry? I don't know. I've just had Water the past two days, but I'm scared to eat even mushies yet. I've been looking at some other posts about food, and I saw someone say she couldn't imagine eating chips because they wouldn't stay down. I wonder how you find out which foods you can eat and which foods you can't? I also read where a lady had slippage because of eating broccoli?? I guess after the fact, I'm really nervous about what to eat.
