Is this the forever food list or just post op. If it is just post op those foods can give people trouble because they can get gummy in the band. However I love eating them all and I have no real trouble with them.

Laura I say the same thing to myself! I can't believe that I have lost 60lbs. I look the same to me. Its only in pictures and in rare moments that I realize the difference. I am always in between sizes so shopping is so depressing. It is worse than when I was big! About 6 months ago I was trying on jackets, I tried on an XL and then put it back. Another girl grabed the jacket and put it on. My jaw nearly droped. The jacket had fit me but was too small for this girl. I thought I was twice her size so what a shock it was to find out that I was smaller than her.

It sucks when people don't notice. I started at 256 and nobody noticed my weight loss until I got around 210. Maybe they notice and don't say anything but I think that stinks. I love it when people notice the weight loss becasuse it is so hard to lose weight.

Did being young help with weightloss?
Ariel replied to blackcherry2002's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was banded a week before I turned 20. The first year I lost about 60 lbs but 6 months into my second year and I have yet to lose a lb. Granted I did lose the 60lbs without changing my diet or exercise. So maybe if I get my butt into gear I can get those last 40 off. I have no sagging skins and no loss in breast volume, unlike some of the older women. -
Would you guys recommend trying to do all liquid diet LONG before surgery? Ideas?
Ariel replied to jessicakolman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you should not do a liquid diet. I didn't need to do a preop liquid diet at all and my BMI was 41. the post op diet was so easy to follow because I had sooo much restriction from surgery. I have done liquid diets in the past and they are wicked. They are hard to follow and for me usually results in huge binges and weight gain instead of loss. Have you met with your sugeon yet? If not, I would not try to lose weight untill you see him. Qualify for surgery and then if you want, try a liquid diet. You can always cancel the surgery once you qualify, but it is alot harder to qualify for surgery if your BMI drops below 40. -
I don't think it would matter. I was thinking about doing boxing so I asked my doctor about getting hit in the port/ stomach area, she said I could get kicked directly on the port or band and it would have no ill effect. It would hurt alot but no damage would be done. I would guess that when you are having a seziure your stomach would not take any direct blows so it should be fine. Go and talk to your surgon about your particular seziures and the areas where you get most injured.

My friend's birthday is coming up. She wants to go out to dinner on the big day. I think it will be just the two of us. Last year we did the same thing and boy did she go overboard. She ordered 4 appetizers, an entree, a desert for the restaurant and the kicker....a desert to take home. Now I was sooo embarrassed just by the sheer volume of the food but then what made it sooo much worse when the bill came she expected me to pay it. I was sooo mad!! I didn't want to make a big scene because it was her birthday so I paid it. I never mentioned it to her but now I am scared that I will be in the same situation. So I was wondering do you all think it would be really rude of me to say at the start of the meal that I would be happy to contribute $20 towards her birthday meal. With that she would be able to buy an entree and split a dessert. I don't want to seem cheap but I'm still in college, I simply can't afford what she did last year. I also have a birthday gift for her. So what do you all think?

So I made Ang's gift card. I got all Martha Stewart and used wrapping paper and special scissors to jazz it up. She thought it was the best thing she had ever seen. So it worked out really well. Thanks everyone for their input. =)

Ang I love that idea!!!! Oh your so smart. Thanks everyone for the advice!
-
Yes all that food for the 2 of us. It makes me sick now to think of it. I am so happy that I am banded. I thought about doing the gift certificate thing but I am so worried that she will be like oh I'll save this for another day. Cota I think I will have the conversation about no gifts with her around christmas. She already bought me a birthday gift this year so I want to play fair. But I think that is a great idea.

I second the burping. Before I would never burp and now I burp all the time. It is soooo annoying. Oh and the other thing seeing people eat large amounts of food makes me feel sick. i used to be one of those people and now it makes me gag.

Are you thinking of having surgery on a thurs and going back monday? From my personal experience I would say take it easy. I ended up getting a stomach virus the day after banding, so I was in the hospital for a week. The thing that stinks is you don't know what will happen. You may be fine or you may end up with a complication so plan accordingly.

How do you change your wardrobe so often and not spend a fortune?
Ariel replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I love walmart and TJMax. Once I lose all the weight I will go crazy but for now walmart is good enough. I always try to have a pair of jeans, and a few shirts that fit. I find you can get away with only having 1 pair of pants much easier than if you only had 1 top. -
I use a straw all the time with no problem. Some people say they can't burp after banding but I have never burped more in my life.
-
I really like Carnation's instant breakfast. It tasty, cheap and sold in my regular supermarket so I don't feel so weird about drinking it. I don't like the idea of going to GNC or other vitamin stores to get a protein shake it makes me feel that something is wrong with me.
-
no they are not clear liquids. You should be able to see through clear liquids. It's funny I was banded about 1.5 yrs ago and I honestly can't remember how long I was on liquids. While you are on them it stinks but it is soon forgotten.

How long before your 1st Vomit???
Ariel replied to flishi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1 day post op. I ended up with a stomach virus and I was throwing up everywhere. I called my doctor and she admitted me to the hospital where I stayed for 5 days on IV drugs. It was the most painful experience ever, but I think that had more to do with it being 1 day post op. Goodnews was my band was the exact same as it was post op. They take x-rays and fluro after every surgery and my band had not moved a mm and to date my band is still good. -
I second taking pictures of yourself as you lose weight. It is hard for some people to see the weight loss when they look in the mirror but a picture never lies. And yay with the jeans!!

Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
Ariel replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Krissy I don't think you did anything wrong. You felt offened and said something, you didn't say why but I perfectly understood without the explanation. The way the question was phrased made it seem that there is something wrong with having WLS under 200lbs which could upset someone who had it done. -

Ariel replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think they should be able to have it. Personally I think if you need to lose more than 50 lbs you should be able to get it. We all know diets don't work so why make someone wait until they are 100lbs overweight to get something that will work. I wish I could have gotten my band before I got so big, it would have helped me not only physically but emotionally, it's is just so hard being fat in today's world. -
Take her to dog training classes. My dog loves to go.

Heart Stopped Once Stomach Inflated w/ Gas
Ariel replied to MsChris72's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had a vagal attack but not as scary as yours. I was in class when I passed about and stayed out for about 5 minutes. I still had a heart beat but it was sky high and my blood pressure was off the charts. Luckily I was in a nurisng class. My reason for the attack was that I had a virus, so weird who knew a virus could do that? I'm glad that you are still going to have the surgery. They will take extra good care of you, with this in your past. -
Nurse says I can't have frozen yogurt!!!
Ariel replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can not freeze your band by eating something cold. That is nuts! -
