    Colds suck.

laurend can you get a PCP that is closer to your home? Or use the schools health center?
  3. For me it took about 2 months before i could get an app. with the surgon. After that it goes very quick. By the time i will be banded in dec, it will have been 6 months. I could have had the surgery 2 months ago but choose not to. The time goes by faster than you would think!
  4. beversman i now how heartbreaking it can be when your family does not support you. Maybe you could tell them how hard it is to live as an overwieght women. keep showing them data backing up the surgery. And sweethot is right prove em wrong!

    December Bandsters

Hey everyone! I am getting banded on Dec. 27th by Dr. Ashley Vernon at Brigham and Womens hospital in Boston. Right now i am at 247 and my doctor's goal is 180, my goal is 140. I am getting sooooo excitied! Evathenurse i am also in nursing schoool and getting it done over break. =)
  6. It was def. the right decision. My surgery is dec. 27th!!! A nice christmas gift to my self! Hopefully the time will zoom by. I am actually in college now, my dad was asking if i would fit in better if i were thin. Because now i really don't and i believe most of that is due to my insecurity and other people's unwillingness to give me a chance. But hopefully as i lose weight i will build up my self esteem. The end of Nov. and Dec. are always crazy with papers and finals so hopefully that will make the time fly until band day! I am sooo excited for all of us! This time next year we will look and feel amazing!
  7. Ok so i told my dad when he came home from work. At first he was very upset and said you are not getting that. He went on and on about how dangerous it is and how my mom would never go for it. Well when i told him that my mom thinks it is a great idea, and so does my doctor, the surgon, the psychologist, and the nutristionist (sp?) he started to come around. I gave him the lap band booklet and some time to read it over. Then he started asking me question about college. Do i think i would fit in better etc.. Evetually he decided that it was an ok decison. He said yeah your life will be so much better and that the world never gives fat people a chance. He was actually happy that i told him now instead of the day before surgery. So now i am so relieved, and he also promised that he would not say anything to anyone. Thank you all sooooo much for your support and letting me come on here with all my worries.
  8. I go to brigham and womens and it is also 500. I called around to diffferent area hospitals and mostly all the major ones are 500. I think it is unfair and a way to get money out of desperate people.
  9. beversman you brought up some good points. I'm not afraid to tell because i think its a bad decison, but because i do not want him to tell the whole world. I know it is the right decison but i also think it is the right decison not to let the whole world know about it. To me there are some things that people do not need to know about, and i believe the band is one of them. But i think i will tell him sooner than later because i do not want him to feel hurt. i just hopes he takes it ok, he is very against the bypass but i don't think he has ever heard of this. ok now i'm rambling, thanks for giving me a new persepctive. I'll let you guys know how he responds.
  10. Ok guys i have a dilemma, should i tell my dad about the surgery now or wait until it gets closer. My date is dec. 27th. I'm 19 and i live at home. Lately my dad has really been getting on me about my weight so i want to shoot back at him that i am having the surgery, but i don't because i don't want it to be a defencsive response. My mom, brother and sister know about the surgery and support me. I am holding off telling my dad because he is such a big mouth. i am afraid that if i tell him the whole world will find out. So should i tell him now to get him off by back about my weight or should i tell him closer to the date in a hopes that he will not talk so much?

    Commonwealth Care ???

Give them a call, that's the only way you will know for sure if you are covered.
  12. Congrats!!! I'm a few days after you, Dec 27th. Just think by next christmas you will be feeling better and looking good!
  13. My whole life i have been overweight. It's funny now though looking back at pics, i was not as big as i felt. I have always used food as my emotional crutch( i'm working on fixing that) , so somehow i can't help to think that if i was never made fun of for being oveweight i would not be where i am now. let me elaborate, in grade school i was chubby and the kids would tease me to no end about that. I could not talk to my mom about it because ever since the 4th grade she had me going to weight watchers. I therefor would just gorge myself on food until the pain went away. It produced a vicous cycle. I would get made fun of for being fat, so i would go eat, which made me even fatter. I know it is my fault for eating and letting myself get this way but i still wonder if i was never made fun would i be as big as i am now?

    Hey all Im new here

Hey hotpink bubbles welcome to LBT. We are kinda in the same boat, i'm 19 and weigh about 250. I have decided to get banded as it is less drastic than the bypass. I figure if this band dosen't work i can always have the bypass later. Start by doing a ton of reserch. Look into what area hospitals do the surgeries and what the requirements are. Some hosp. for example only operate on 21+. many of the hospitals have a seminar requirment before you can see the doctor. Also find out if your insurance will cover the procedure. Check out obesityhelp.com they have a hospital review section that i found really helpful. Goodluck with your journey!!

    RE-USE of the FILL NEEDLE

I would get a new docotr in a heartbeat. If the Doctor is doing this what else might he be doing? I need to have complete trust in my doctor and for me that would violate the trust.
  19. If most doctors don't want to reband you, then you should consider the reason why. I don't know many surgons that would turn away a pateint without it being in their best interest. Have you considered another type of WLS. Goodluck.
  20. I'm a 22 now but i hope to be a 10. An 8 would be ideal because of the single digit but a 10 would work just fine. =)

    Help With New Dr...Please

i would also ask the doc. to get on me if i start slacking. For example say you are to see him/her once a month and you skip a month. Ask him/her to have the secretary call you until you come in. It would prob. stink but it would keep you on the program. Goodluck this time around and you can do this.

ovarian cyst, I mean alien watermellon!

I'm glad you got that taken care of. I had an ovarian cyst before and wow are they painful. Mine was the size of a tennis ball and it was soooo painful i can't imagine how a watermellon one would feel. On a brighter note congrats with the 32 pounds. That's really great!
