Do you feel up to it? Are you still on liquids? Could your family go without you?
-
It’s from the Little Mermaid which was my favorite movie when I was little. My love for the movie may have faded over the years but I love the name all the same.

I may start a contorversy...but here goes
Ariel replied to Janine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my nursing classes they told us that the artificial sweeteners are no better for us than the sugar. Our body doesn’t know how to process the fake sugar so it converts it right into fat. The artificial sweeteners are great for people with blood sugar problems but for those without the problems i was told that plain sugar is the best. I learned this in both my Anatomy and physiology class as well as my Pathophysiology class. -
What does it feel like when YOU swallow food?
Ariel replied to bigmatt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't feel anything. It feels the same as post op. -
I stayed overnight and was grateful for that. They have the really good pain meds in the hospital.

What were your incisions closed with?
Ariel replied to faithmd's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the sutures that dissolve by themselves along with steri strips. -
Can I make this work???
Ariel replied to LstNTranslation's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
there is always hope -
How do you know that they knew who the person on the bill was? Myself I don't pay attention to the pictures i just care about the number printed on them.

I take the generic prilosec and it comes in these little capsules. I just open the capsule and dump the contents into my mouth with a little water. easy Breezy.

wow everyone is really rough on the students here. This is a lab for non-science majors so what is the huge deal with easing up a bit. None of these kids will be using that class for their future work so does it really make a differance if the grade is curved from a 65 to 75.

How long does it take to reach the break through point?

To Tan or not to Tan....
Ariel replied to synicalchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried mystic tanning? I'm sure it wouldn't be good for the incisions but perhaps better overall. -
What did you feel when you awoke from surgery?
Ariel replied to luv2bingo07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Every once in a while on here i read about this myth that the doctor goes in between your legs for this surgery. He doesn't. The table is wicked skinny and the doctors and nurses stand on the side of the table. Unless you are having a GYN surgery they do not need to spread your legs or stand in bewteen your legs. -
I think its normal until you get the right restriction.
-
I have never been able to feel my band. When you first got banded you experienced alot of restriction from the swelling of the surgery. Now that the swelling is gone so is your restriction.

What did you feel when you awoke from surgery?
Ariel replied to luv2bingo07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When i first woke up i felt no pain but my body felt like it weighed a million pounds. The smallest movements took so much effort. My doctor has us spend the night and so i think they are more generous with the meds because i had my surgery at 9am and it was not until 7pm that i was awake enough to really understand what was going on around me. I was in and out of it until the next morning. -
Gagging on breathing tube post-op?
Ariel replied to hopeful07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have sleep apnea so they told me that they would have to leave the tube in for a little while longer than avg. while i was waking up and that i would have to follow their breathing instructions. Well when i woke up i had the tube in my mouth it didnt seem like a big deal to me. I had to take 3 deep breaths before they pulled it out. The hardest part for me post op is they asked me to move from the operating table onto another bed. Why do they do that? -
any1 soon to be banded or banded already around 21yrs old???
Ariel replied to princess tink!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 20 and banded. I would recommend it. -
How much weight would you have to gain?
-
Why would a fill cost do much? Do you mean one hundred dollars.
-
In my nusring classes they told us that the brain can not process artifical sugars, it is converted straight to fat. After learning that I try not to touch the stuff.
-
Why put yourself in more debt in you don't need to. I'm in college now and i got banded over winter break. It's not that big of a deal. I also think it would be easier to get banded and go back to school because then you will be occupied with school and hopefully not think about food so much. You might want to do some research about fill doctors in NY since you live in CA. If your insurance denies then you can always self pay but personally i would wait. Don't put yourself into needless debt just for a few extra months with the band.

I hate being chroncially ill. The narcolepsy especially sucks at the moment.
Ariel replied to kyethra's topic in Rants & Raves
Oh hun I am so sorry to read about your troubles. I can relate. From the age of 13-17 i was chronically ill, and alwyas in pain. i went from doctor to doctor and none of them had a clue. I had surgery and more tests than i even knew existed. Then one day i was fine. The only explanation my doctors could come up with is that during puberty the hormones caused my body to basically go nuts. Hopefully they will figure out what is wrong or even better you wake up one day fine. PM if you ever want to talk. -
Why am I SOOOO COLD??
Ariel replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES!!!! Before surgery i was always hot. Now I am always looking for an extra shirt to put on or even an extra pair of pants. I'm not sure as to why, hopefully someone will tell us. -
Talk to the surgon and tell him how upset you are with the care recieved. Also the weight they sumbit for the insurance should come from the first vist. That is what my doctor told me, becasue she wanted me to lose weight before surgery but my BMI was just 40 so I asked her about that. Hopefully the surgon will be more understanding. I am sorry for your bad experince.
