My doctors here in Maine are just dragging me along for almost a year now I have been trying to get a revision done as my band is no longer functional and they keep telling me to do more dietitian appointments (already have over 15 done) they just say I am to anxious to have the revision done but gosh who wouldn't be. I have started looking into going to Mexico to have this done instead of waiting for who knows how long from my current doctors. Has anyone had a revision done in Mexico? If so where did you have it done and what was your experience like? I am super nervous about going to a different country to have surgery.

Step by step experience with Dr. Fernando Garcia
forabetterlife replied to Trahan Caro's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thank you for posting this. I have been talking with Linda from a different company about a revision with Dr. Garcia in Mexico. I was doing great and was ready to schedule and put my deposit until my bariatric doctor here started telling me I would die if I went to mexico for surgery and that if I have any complications after surgery no doctor in the us would save me. I am very nervous now and mixed with anxiety. I am hoping to talk to someone on the phone who has gone through this as on here you can never tell if they are really patients or someone that works for the doctors. -

forabetterlife replied to innwtitdtity's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had band done 6/16/2009 lost 25 pounds had a slip they removed all my fluid gained 9 pounds back while waiting for the slip to resolve. Had my band filled again and within 4 weeks slipped again with severe acid reflux. My doctor has deemed my band no longer functional and we are now starting the revision process to RNY. -
Questions for those who have been here for awhile
forabetterlife replied to beccaboolane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can eat chocolate and chips no problem but try to only have it once a month, popcorn has no nutritional value at all but I do love it and its a low calorie snack I just buy the 100 calorie bags so I dont over eat it. Pasta tends to be harder to eat but if you chew chew chew you may be able to it fills you up fast so you wont eat much of it anyway. You should try spaghetti squash just go to the store buy a spaghetti squash cut it in half place on a baking pan put in over on 350 for 10-15 minutes then use a fork to pull apart like spaghetti and add your sauce.... delicious. -
Ok so Elfiepoo just FYI I was watching the Doctors on Tv and they referred to the Dukan Diet and Atkins as FAD Diets becuase they are not a diet that most people can stick with. So guess I was right.

I know for me the Atkins and South Beach would never work becuase they require at least 2 cups of vegetables a day 1 with lunch and 1 with supper . I cant even eat 1 cup of food at a time so no way could I eat my protein and 1 cup of vegetables. And breakfast consist of basically only eggs and veggies with some cheese on them for the first 2 weeks and I cant eat eggs in the morning they get stuck. So be careful and think about all aspects before beginning a new diet fad.

I agree with snacking. My nutritionist told me either 6 small meals a day or 3 meals and 2 snack but NOTHING after 6:30 pm except for Water (crystal Light). I have Snacks like popcorn, cheese sticks, celery with Peanut Butter just be careful though the celery can be hard to digest if you dont chew enough. I plateaued for over 3months and was so mad. I began a food log and realized I wasnt even getting 1000 calories a day so I upped it to 1200 and started losing again. YAY! Good luck it is slow going at times but just remeber 1 thing. AS LONG AS THE NUMBERS ON THE scale ARE GOING DOWN AND NOT UP, YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK AND IT DOESNT MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES YOU TO GET TO YOUR GOAL. IT TOOK YOU A LOT OF TIME TO PUT THE WEIGHT ON AND IT TAKES TIME TO TAKE IT OFF.

Less than 24 hours post... in pain.. Question
forabetterlife replied to bzbrown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it is the gas that is most likely causing the pain. Gas X will not help with this gas pain becuase its not the same kind of gas that you get when you have to belch or fart lol..... It does go away and it does cause pain the your shoulders, chest and breast bone so this seems to be normal pains from what you are saying. Good Luck it definitley gets better just WALK WALK WALK. -
Another thought is that when you are on Antibiotics or pain meds it causes really bad breath and I was on both meds for 1 week after surgery.

breast size b4 and after weight loss surgery
forabetterlife replied to DoingIt4Me!'s topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
From my personal experience I am 5'3 and was a little heavier than you and went from a 44DD to a 36DD so no cup change at all and now that I am smaller my large breast give me constant back pain and make working out harder becuase if I run I will knock myself out lol. I would wait until after surgery and see how things go but keep it in mind. -
My surgeon didnt put any in my band. Well she put 3 cc in checked for leaks and then removed the 3cc before she closed me up.

I dont have port rain gauge but I have band rain gauge lol or band weather gauge I live in Maine but went to Florida on vacation and the temperature change made me so tight I could barely eat anything called my doctor she thought maybe it had to do with the temps. Got back to Maine and all better back to normal.

I just got approved from my insurance for my TT. YAY!!! But now is the scary part. I have no idea what to expect. How long do the drains stay in? When they remove the drains do they stitch up the holes where they were or do they let them heal from the inside out? What is the onQ pack/pouch? How long should I be out of work? (I sit at a desk all day) How far from goal should I be before surgery? I am 15 pounds from goal I dont want to have my TT then lose the other 15 pounds and have saggy stomach again. I know I can do this I have had 2 c-sections and my lap band so I am not to terribly worried about the pain. Any answers would be appreciated.

Have to do a sleep study. Boo!
forabetterlife replied to Rainydayz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a sleep study and they do not allow you to take any sleep aids. You have all the electrodes hooked up on your legs, chest, back, arms and on your head then you have to lay flat on your back they shut the lights out and you go to sleep (staying on your back) which was the hardest part for me becuase I usually sleep on my sides. It felt like I laid there for hours before I fell asleep but in the morning they had me fill out a questionairre and gave me the correct answers after. I actually fell asleep in 27 minutes, woke up 9 times coughing and needed my inhaler 1 time and they woke me up at 6am and I was still exhausted. Good luck it isnt fun but has to be done. -
Weight gain-is it normal?
forabetterlife replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
weight gain is NORMAL right after surgery. I think about 97%- 99% of all people that will give you feedback will tell you they gained weight right after but lost it quickly. Good Luck on your journey -

Questions about TT?????
forabetterlife replied to forabetterlife's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
My husband has been laid off from work and insurance at my work is too expensive so we had no choice but to get state offered health insurance (Maine Care) and they paid for my Lap Band which was approved in 2 days and my tummy tuck which was approved in 3 days. My PS is throwing in a little extra work as well he did the same for my cousin. He is going to remove excess back skin and vag skin so I will be one sexy mama lol -

Being banded Monday--excited but nervous too!!!
forabetterlife replied to debdab's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good Luck you will be just fine and have much success if you follow all the rules. It gets frustrating at times but you can do it, just sit back and take a deep breath or come on the forums for support. -
What is/was your pre-op diet?
forabetterlife replied to momnear40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do 2 weeks pre op diet which consisted of 3 protein shakes a day and 1 WW/Smart Ones frozen meal under 300 calories.
