I can drink down has much liquid as a want. I have never had any problems with the amount I drink or how fast. I know it is not good to get all full of air but I have not had any problems drinking fast or how much. But... I have not had a fill yet and I haven't had ANY problems with bread or getting stuck at all.

Ok so I got banded on May 26th, I have had no fills yet. Not having my first fill until August 3rd on dr.'s recommendations. He let me start eating solid food on July 2nd, which has been great BUT.... I feel like I did before surgery. I am doing good with the not drinking before and after, I am trying to eat healthier. but the portion sizes are slowly creeping up. I haven't gained any weight but I haven't lost either. I read all of the fill stories and now people are on the 2nd and 3rd fills. I have never had anything stuck(thank goodness) but I still feel like I am taking too big bites. I don't get it. I feel like before I had the band. So far my band hasn't been "turned on". Just kinda sucks after all that you go through to get it. I fell like I just went 8 weeks of hell for nothing. :tongue_smilie: Had to vent thanks. :frown:

Has anyone been sick yet with the band? (flu, cold etc)
jessiel2x replied to sarahbellzz14-4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got a cold the day after my surgery. :smile2: It was horrible. I had to use this teddy bear called a "cough buddy" they gave me in the hospital. I had to hold it to by port site. I had my surgery May 26th but I know if I got another cold I would probably still hold "teddy" to my port site when I coughed just to be safe. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. -
I know sometimes I get really bummed because I think man I could of starved myself and not gone through all this. But I guess this is why they call it Banster Hell! I started solids on Thursday, while I am excited about real food after 6 weeks, I am really nervous too, if I had good self control I wouldn't need the band. :crying: :rolleyes2:

Frustrated with the small amounts of food? I am!

I am so with everyone. Banded on May 26th, still on mushies for one more week (thank goodness) I am so hungry. Tonight I didn't feel like cooking for everyone so I stopped and just got TV dinners on the way home. I bought one of those little Stouffers with mashed potatoes and stuffing it was 9 oz. I ate the WHOLE thing. I immediatley thought OMG what did I do. I didn't get sick or stuck or anything. I CANNOT WAIT FOR MY FIRST FILL!! But sadly he pushed it out 3 more weeks. I am sooooo bummed. That is the first time I have really screwed up, I really feel quilty. -
I am right there with you. I had to go back to the surgeon on Monday because I was having alot of NEW pain in my port area, he just said I was trying to do to much to soon. But he asked when they scheduled my first fill and I told him it was July 2nd. He said that was WAY to soon and pushed it out another 3 weeks so it is not until July 27th. I was so bummed because I am starting to really get hungry more often. I only have a week of mushies left then on to solids, but now I am super worried.

Ok so I was banded on May 26th so four weeks Tuesday. About a week ago I was in the shower and I bent over to shave my legs (Which I have been doing with no problem) and this really sharp burning pain shot thru my port incision then all the way across my stomach. It took me like an entire minute to be able to stand up straight. Even after that I just stood there for probably another 5 minutes until the pain subsided. Then I was just a little sore for a while. Every since then several times a day when I bend over or drive or whatever it grabs me again. Is this happening to anyone else?
-
Well on this same subject... I am 3 weeks out from surgery. The last 2-3 days my port area has been really sore, like right after the surgery. This morning I was in the shower I bent over to shave my legs (which I have been doing since like day 4 after the surgery with no problem) The worst pain shot through my port site. It felt like I was stabbed it took me almost a minute to be able to stand up right again. It lasted about 4-5 minutes. I had to just stand there. Now it is really sore but no more stabbing pain. I put in a call to the surgeon and I am waiting for a return call. It was scary though.

What food stage are you at? What are you eating?
jessiel2x replied to Carriedaway78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You know I am feeling the same way. Sometimes I just want to cry. I am on the mushie phase and my nutrition nurse said anything I could get to applesauce consistantsey that I could eat. She gave me a few recipes like chicken salad, tuna, eggs. But I have had NO problem getting ANY food down at all. I have had no PBing not even any feeling of that. I did have a piece of pizza, I chewed it extremely well but I had no problems at all. I am still only eat about 1/2 a cup at a time. I really want this to work. It is like it was before I got the band if I had great will power I wouldn't of needed the band as a tool in the first place. I did so good on my pre-op diet. On my liquids after for 10 days, now mushies is not going so well. -
I with you guys. Started puree, haven't lost in a week which is a real bummer. It is hard not to see loss when you are working so hard. But I guess it will come. I feel more hungry now that I am on mushie food. I had tuna for lunch. Those little lunch kits are great (except for the crackers) they are only 3 oz and come with everything already mushie. I have 3 weeks left of mushies.

So what did everyone's surgeon give them for the drinking rule? Mine has the 30/30 rule. No drinks 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after. The 30 after I am not having a problem with (well I freaking hate it but I can do it:glare:) It is the 30 minutes before. I always have a water bottle near, so I forget and then take a sip and then ten seconds later think "Oh crap I am going to eat in a minute." ARRRRGH What does everyone else do?
-
I would like some good Mushie recipes. I was so excited about eating mushies and now I am tired of eggs, refried beans, and chicken salad. Anybody got any good ones?
-
I went for my post op on Thursday. It was great to see the doctor look at my starting weight and then my current weight twice! He said I was doing great and could start "mushies." Just like you AlaskaGirl I had a scrambled egg. AND IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!! I am doing 1/4 of a cup 3 times a day and 2 protien shakes and water. Can you believe we are on this side of the surgery now?! I still can't believe it!
-
I agree completely! It is great to have other people feeling the same things at the same time and having the same worries, successes and not to mention temptations.

Ok so I am confused. In my nutrition class it was a mix of lapband, gastric, and sleeve patients so sometimes it was hard to tell what was meant for who. Ok so in the class the lady said that we could have all the liquid we wanted during this "full liquid" post op diet. (I am 4 days out) But when I was in the hospital they kept only bringing me 2oz. of soup at a time. So I am only eating a 1/4 cup of soup at a time. Now that I am feeling better this is not really doing much in the way of making me feel satisfied. I know it is going straight through. So can I eat more? I remember her saying the soup at hands were perfect. But I am thinking the hospital just clumped all of the bariatric patients together with the same diet. I really don't want to make a mistake but it is saturday and obviously the office is closed. Any advice?
-
When does everyone go back for first doctor followup? Mine is tomorrow. 1 more day of full liquid:lol: I am so tired of sweet tasting stuff, you know like protien drinks and stuff. I look very much forward to my soup in a day. I swear I think this part of the journey as absolutley killed my sweet tooth (wouldn't that be nice if it were forever?)
-
So I would like some protien shake reciepes. I bought some frozen fruit and some plain yogurt for after surgery May 26th (3 DAYS) I haven't gotten any protien power yet. But the nutritionist said that I could drink Slim Fast Low Carb because it has 20grams of protien per shake. But I thought I could use some variety considering I have been on Opti-Fast since the 18th (Totally Sucks:eek:) Anyone have any good receipes or ideas! Thanks
-
Have you tried the Slim Fast Low Carb. It is new and my nutritionist said they were good. They have 20 grams of protien per shake. they don't taste as medicine like. they aren't bad. I been getting the chocolate ones. Good luck

Surgery is tomorrow!! Horray! But is anyone else dreading Caffine withdrawl? My doc said no caffine for 8 WEEKS! WTF I know it will dehydrate me, but what about the withdrawl?
-
Wow Christy I can't believe you were able to eat mushies. That goes to show you once again the difference in Docs. Mine is making us wait 7 to 10 days. But I am like you I don't know if I could do it. I am worried I am not getting enough fluid and protien. I am a little concerned. I definatley think the gas pain was worse today. Well last night. I have been napping on and off because of pain meds. Pain is tolerable until I cough. Lots of popcycles and water. Keep it up all we can do it.
-
Congrats to all. Had mine yesterday. Not scheduled till 5pm. But surgery started at around 4:30 or so. Woke up feeling pretty good, after being scared to death to go in. Port incision was sore. But the worst was gas pain in the back. Felt good today walked, breathed (no one really explained the whole breathing and coughing thing? Just said I needed to do it.) But after the 2 hour ride home I was quite sore ranging in the 7 to 8 range. Hubby brought home pain med. Helped quite a bit. Fell asleep it is almost midnight now and wide awake!!! Only had today broth, Opti fast shake, water, and decaf diet tea. No protien yet just don't think I can handle the thickness as even sometime water burns in my chest. Had upper GI and all was well today. But sore inside. Anyone else have that? Like burning in the chest near band site? Trying to take smaller sips.
-
Thanks everyone. I am going to print it out and go shopping! Tomorrow is the big day!!!!!!!

Jessiel2x here. My surgery is May 26th too. I am on the Opti-Fast diet and starving. But they said I could have sugar free jello and pops. I guess I will be tired of those. I am a smoker but no mention of quitting. I guess they all know I smoke they asked a couple of time. I think you must have some killer will power to be on the preOp diet and quit smoking! Anyone else having a hard time around 5 or 6pm with the pre op. So far so good. but I am not going to lie I am HUNGRY!
