Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

Hello...I have an observation and I need to hear from a few of you so that I can have some clarity. I noticed that most of you eat very little food. Is that because you can't eat more than that because of your fills or you are measuring and will not eat more but could. I hope it is because your fill will not allow you to eat more than that. I received my 3rd fill on Tuesday which brought me to 4.5ccs. I feel some restriction, but not enough to where I am satisfied with the amounts you all eat. Please respond back. Thanks in advance.

    Blood in the syringe

I went back Tuesday for another fill and the same thing happened. Once she found the port after multiple sticks she had to change the saline because blood was mixed in. How is blood getting into the syringe if she is pushing the contents out of the syringe rather than pulling saline out of my port? I am baffled.

    July 2009 Mile Challenge

Yes, I am a teacher WillowCat. I teach 3rd grade. I am looking forward to going back to work for several reasons. One reason is that I know I will eat less at work. I usually have a Protein shake for Breakfast and I plan to do the Soup at Hand for lunch. The hardest part of the day would be getting home and eating takeout for dinner. I hope by then my fills will kick in and I can leave food on my plate. I recently purchased a Gerber Graduate baby plate. It is divided into sections and is much smaller than the average dinner plate. I have been using that to ensure that I eat smaller portions. So far so good. Teachers report back on 8/17/09. Our students return on 8/24. When do you go back to work?

    July 2009 Mile Challenge

Hi WillowCat. You are my HERO! I don't think I could have made up days missed. Every time I come back to this thread and read the post, the more I am motivated to do more. I told my husband last night that it would be difficult for me to continue with a 50 mile goal for next month because I go back to work. I never considered that some of you do not get the summer off and have been working and finding time to exercise. Thanks to all of you, I am not going to set a lower goal for next month. I am going to make the effort daily and do more on the weekend. If I miss a day, I will make it up over the course of the challenge. Thanks again! Now to get to your celebration. How about going to the movies or a day at the beach if you are close enough. A day of window shopping is great. You can imagine yourself in cute, smaller size outfits. Maybe a mani/pedi spa treatment. You truly deserve that after all of the miles you have logged. Whatever you decide let us know. I truly hope you are part of the monthly challenges from here on out. We do not have to change a thing. We can set our own goals and be here to continue to encourage one another. If it weren't for you all, I would have stopped a long time ago.

    July 2009 Mile Challenge

Hi Jenai, I understand what you are going through with the hot temps. I live in Southeast Texas. Its hot and humid most of the year here. We never get use to it. The seminar sounds wonderful. Would you mind sharing your experience with us? I know you will gather a lot of useful information that will make living with the band that much easier. I'm am so glad you are doing well with the challenge. Coming into the challenge later than most of us you still have logged some impressive miles. Keep it up. Congratulations on your 24th Anniversary!

    July 2009 Mile Challenge

Congrats MrsNeener! I would love to continue the challenge for next month. This has been the only thing that has kept me exercising. I would have stopped early in the month, but I knew there would be a lot of you who remained faithful to the challenge. I would have been so mad at myself for giving up. Now I feel good about myself for staying the course. I pray that we get more banders to sign up for the August 2009 Mile Challenge. Thanks for coming aboard.
  10. Thanks Auggies. I hope this fill works out for you. Please let me know in 2-3 days how things are going for you? I am going for my fill on 7/28/09.
  11. Cookie and Auggies how many ccs do each of you have in your bands? I am going for my 3rd fill and I was going to ask for 1-2 ccs. I am getting worried that I may ask for too much. I went in 2 weeks ago and the NP only gave me .5 ccs for a total of 3.5 ccs. I have no restriction at all. I know everyone is different, but maybe you all can give me an idea of what is too much for you.

    was your tummy swollen afterwards?

My tummy was swollen for 4-5 weeks post op. Clothes that would fit around my tummy pre surgery did not fit for weeks after surgery although I was losing weight. I finally noticed that the swelling has gone down.

Looking for a partner in crime ;)

Hi Snowboots. I would like to partner with you on this weight loss journey. I am getting fills but have not reached the sweet spot that I read about on this forum. Today I weighed myself and the scale went up a pound. I am not weighing and measuring my food right now to my own detriment. I was ok with not losing weight, but I am not ok with gaining weight. My next fill is 7/28/09. I hope that one helps. When would you like to get started? Looking forward to hearing from you.

    July 2009 Mile Challenge

Way to go JuJuVee! What an awesome way to finish. I was trying to pace myself to get to 50 miles. I never thought for once to exceed the goal. You have given me something to work toward. Let's put our heads together for our next challenge.

    MAY 2009 Banders!

Hi. I'm glad I am not alone. I lost 11 pounds 2 weeks post op and have not lost anymore. I've had 2 fills. I have 3.5ccs in my band. Honestly, I'm ok with the slow loss. I am a teacher and I do not want most people to know I had WLS. If I go back to work with obvious weight loss, everyone will suspect that I had surgery. I have a long term goal set. I would like at least 20lbs lost by Thanksgiving. That is a reachable goal. Once I return to work it will be easier to stick to my eating plan. As of now I can eat anything. Nothing gets stuck.
  16. Hi Savannahsmommie. Did your insurance cover the port revision or did you pay out of pocket?

    July 2009 Mile Challenge

Wow! Thanks Willow. You are right about this post helping us to stay focused. There are days I too do not feel like exercising but then I know that I must be accountable to this challenge. Your comment also will keep me motivated to complete the rest of the month. You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself. Keep up the great work!
  18. I teach as well and missed the last week of school due to my surgery. I went back on the last day to say goodbye to my students. Quite a few co-workers asked about my surgery and I told them it was a minor female surgery. I think I can get away with it when I go back on 8/14/09. I have only lost 11 lbs. Hopefully over the course of the year I will have a slow loss that no one will suspect that I had WLS. I made a mistake and told the school secretary. I'll see if she keeps it to her self. LOL! Congratulations on your surgery. The weight for me has not dropped off. It depends on your fills. Maybe you can explained your weight loss by telling everyone you are following a strict diet. Tell them you have to weigh and measure your food and this is the first diet plan that you can stick with because you can eat what you like. Good luck!

    First Fill experience

The numbing shot does sting, but it helps to have it in the event you are stuck more than once. I would not be able to endure being stuck multiple times because of my fear. Days after my fill I am so sore around my port and even swollen. I know that is due to being stuck so many times during a fill. I always come out crying not from pain, but knowing a needle is being stuck into my belly.

    First Fill experience

MGZ ask your doctor to numb you before he gives you a fill. I am afraid of needles and it helps to be numb. My NP stuck me numerous times before she found the soft spot on the port. I had no idea I was being stuck. I know only because my husband was there holding my hand and he asked if I felt each time she stuck me. Thankfully I did not feel it. The NP told me she had to try many times because I have a lot of scar tissue that the needle could not penetrate. She even had to change needles. I hope your port did not flip. My NP also uses an xray to make sure the port is in the correct position. Your doctor will be able to tell right away once he uses the xray. Come back and post your update. I wish you well. Do not forget to ask to get a numbing shot.
  21. Hi Ivy. I was banded on 5/28/09. I lost 11 pounds the first two weeks after sugery, but have not lost anymore. I have gone in for 2 fills for a total of 3.5ccs. I do not have any restriction. I am waiting to get there. I'm pretty patient with it. I really do not want very many of my co-workers to notice a dramatic wieght loss over the summer. I do not want to discuss that with them. A gradual loss is just fine with me. By the holidays I know I will have the results that I want. Good luck and I hope you get a date soon.

  22. Hi. I went to the site and saw many things I wanted to purchase but I decided not to buy anything. I am so early in this lap band journey. I do not want to buy anything in my current size and not be able to wear it just a few weeks later. I will visit the site once I reach a weight loss goal. Didn't see the animal print dress. I would have bought that.

  23. Hi Rosie. I read your post earlier and you recommended purchasing protein foods from Diet Direct. Thanks for the post. What types of food have you tried and what do you like?

  24. 2911plans

    protein shots????

I have the 42 gram vials in grape. I can sip it over the course of the day right from the vial or if I want to thin it out I mix the protein with G2 Gatorade. A 32oz bottle has a total of 100 calories. The vial of protein has 180 calories. I purchased mine from GNC.
  25. I went for a second fill on yesterday and the NP only gave me 0.5 cc for a total of 3.5ccs. I still do not have any restriction. I'm glad I can go back every 2 weeks. Maybe another half or a whole cc will get me there.
