    I'm missing veggies

Thanks everyone. I should not complain. I am losing weight and I couldn't be happier about that. I found carrot juice today. It was spiked with papaya and mango juices. I had 4 ozs of that for breakfast this morning. I can't indulge too often. It is loaded with calories. My doctor would not be happy knowing that.
  2. This worked for me. I hope this helps. My family had baked chicken for dinner one evening and there were leftovers. The next day I opened a can of chicken broth and placed it in a pot with one piece of chicken. I added garlic powder and dried parsley. I let that simmer for 15-20 minutes. I then strained the broth. The broth was much more flavorful. I was able to get through the phase without any problems. Remember to strain the broth before consuming. Any tiny chicken pieces must be discarded.

    Spicy foods?

wstorms....have you lost over 50lbs without a fill? That's is great. What is your secret?
  5. Hello..I have questions and would like an expert opinion. I was told to avoid rice on the lapband because it will damage the band. How does eating rice damage the band? I do not have a fill yet, can I have rice before the fill?

    May 28th Anyone??

Hi Mara. I feel great. Thanks for asking. I called my doctor a day before I was suppose to start soft foods and asked If I could start a day early. I was given the ok. Last night I had pan cooked fish. I just knew I would go to my old ways and overeat, but surprisingly I did not. I took small bites and chewed, chewed, chewed. I am naturally a slow eater. By the time 20 minutes went by I was satisfied and only had 4-5 ozs of fish. This band is the "magic wand" I have been seeking for a long time. I am still not hungry. This will be really easy to do. So far, so good. My only concern is over getting the fills. I'm afraid of needles and I am afraid of food getting stuck. No one has posted that stuck food gives the choking sensation. I don't want to experience that. I pray that I only need 1 or 2 fills. I haven't started exercising yet. I know once I start the weight will just fall off. I'm glad you are feeling well. That gas pain is really scary.
  7. Hi Bobbie..Today is day 14 post op and I am feeling pretty good. I am on soft foods now which consists of yogurt, mashed potatoes, fish and soft cooked eggs. I have to go shopping today. No yogurt. I would much rather the yogurt over heavy mashed potatoes. I have lost over 11 pounds. I feel good about that. I also do not want to be model thin. I wore an XL top and 14 bottoms, but was not comfortable. Heart disease and diabetes runs in my family and this was a chance to stop any of those from happening to me. My goal is to wear a L top and a 12 bottom. Roughly that should be a 30-40 pound drop. My husband and I are High School Sweethearts. We met in 1978. Over the years he is looking great. Some signs of graying around the edges and his weight is good. Me on the other hand began to look and feel really old. I thought no way. I want the two of us to age gracefully. I'm on the right track. It feels good to turn away from food. I'm also conscience of what foods to avoid and I have made every effort to do so. Before the band I would eat it knowing it wasn't good for me. I know this is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

    May 28th Anyone??

Munger you will get your fill before I get mine. I am also TERRIFIED of needles. My first fill was schedule for 6/16/09, but I am flying a few days later. I was rescheduled for 6/30/09. What kinds of foods are you eating now? I was put on soft foods today. I had 1/4 cups of refried beans around 10:45 this morning. I am still full. I must remember to measure everything from now on. I do not want to overeat again.

    Grrrr! Grumpy Bandster Here

Wow Sara, I'm glad you can eat shrimp. That's another food I've read that people have trouble eating. I love all kinds of seafood. I would love to have shrimp dishes. What is crab shumai?
  10. Being able to throw the bra extenders away. Able to leave food on my plate. Exercising with my daughters.
  11. Hi Bobbie..I was just banded on 5/28/09. So far all is well. Thanks to this forum I have had so many new "friends" reach out to me when I had questions or just wanted to vent. Congratulations on your surgery date. It will be here before you know it. I am 45, married with 2 daughters 19 and 13. I live in Texas. Just look me up and I will be glad to help.

    Grrrr! Grumpy Bandster Here

I really appreciate the great advice. Spidey I really needed the info on pb'ing. I see that in a lot of post and always worried about that as well. I also love fish; tuna, catfish and salmon. Have you had any luck with fish?

    Grrrr! Grumpy Bandster Here

Thanks Spidey! My idea of simple eating is chicken..I love it, but quite a few people have stated they have gotten stuck eating it. Is that because of the fill? I am getting paranoid. Its been a while since I've had normal food and I have been counting the days until I can really eat something, but I think fear may win in my case.

    Grrrr! Grumpy Bandster Here

I will move to the solid phase 2 weeks before my first fill. During that time I will be on vacation. I'm curious...Can you really eat normal foods? I do not want to eat something and get sick while 1200 miles from home.
  15. Hello Banders, I was banded this morning and arrived home around 1:30 cst. Since then I have been very uncomfortable. I can sit and move around somewhat which minimizes the discomfort. I am concerned about getting a good night's rest. Did anyone have trouble sleeping? I am using a heating pad and am sipping on broth, cranberry juice and water. I also took the prescribed liquid pain med without much change. Please tell me I will feel better soon. I do not want to regret having this done.

Thanks Alaska. He actually did not give me a limit on liquids. I will will have smaller portions from now on. I had no idea 3/4 of cup was too much.

    Post-Op Blues

Whatever you do remember to follow the plan. You have to give your tummy a chance to heal. You do not want to go through the effort to get the band and then end up causing damage to your band. This is a very short period of time. In fact you are lucky that you can have the soft foods so soon after surgery. I had a week on Clear Liquids then a week on full liquids. I can't have soft foods until day 15 post op. Soft foods according to my doctor is yogurt, eggs, mashed potatoes. All I can eat now that is considered eating is s/f Jello along with Protein shakes, broth, s/f popsicles and creamed Soups. Am I tired of that? Yes! I keep telling myself that I am one day closer to the mini goal. That mini goal was to last the whole 2 weeks on liquids. There are so many temptations in my home. My husband, 19 year old daugther and 13 year old daughter still eat their regular favorites. I have not asked them not to eat in front of me because I want to prove to myself that I can do it and so far I have. That's a wonderful feeling! You can do it! Its hard but take it one day at a time. I wish I could help with the hunger issue, but I am still not very hungry and its 11 days post op for me. I do want to eat, but its not because I am hungry for the food, I'm just in the habit of eating. I spend most of my day on this forum because it gives me something to do. There are so many posts that will scare you into waiting before you move to solids before they are allowed. I've learned a lot in the past 2 weeks. Hang in there.
  18. lindsayb I pray that you will be ok. I'm curious. What did your doctor do to make it up to you for that huge mistake? Wow..that is really scary. I am still on liquids. I was banded 5/28/09. Did your doctor put you on soft foods right after sugery? I am counting the days until I can get soft foods.

    Help

TeTe, I think you should take the first step. Call and get a fill and start at phase one. Take it one day at a time. You can do it. You have the ultimate motivation: your wedding! This forum is also a place to get any and all advice. Even baby steps will get you to the end of the road.
  20. :confused:Hello, I am 2 weeks post op and have not cheated on my clear liquid diet. Today is the first day that I can have thicker liquids and creamy soups. I bought a package soup mix/cheesy potato. I just finished making it and noticed it has small bits of onion and potatos. Is this type of soup allowed in this phase? The soup is really creamy and I can always spit the bits out. Please let me know. I do not want to accidently cheat.

    May 28th Anyone??

Thanks! I now have an idea what pb'ing is all about. The bottom line: DO NOT OVEREAT!!!
  22. OMG! I had a better night last night all because I was able to pass a lot of backed up gas. Who knew that 10 days post op I was still so loaded with gas. I do not want this to gross anyone out. I am posting because I want this entry to help someone else later who may be experiencing pain and discomfort and think something went wrong. I had to make myself have a bowel movement. I used adult size suppositories and Milk of Magnesia on post op day 7 and just a suppository on post op day 10. Day 10 was the break through day. I still have some discomfort on my left side, but I am no longer worried that something is wrong. I also know that I was not getting enough protein. Protein helps to heal muscle. I had my DH go to GNC and purchase NEW WHEY Protein in 42 gram vials on yesterday. I am sipping the protein throughout the day. I am also increasing my water intake. I think I may have let myself get dehydrated. I am making a conscience effort to make myself better.
  23. Atriva, I am on full liquids with creamy soups. I go to soft foods on Thursday. My soft foods are yogurt, fish, cream of wheat and such.
  24. I am horrified. I have been reading threads about sliming. I was excited that I would begin soft foods next week, but so many people have had episodes of sliming on all types of food. I am so scared. Please? Anyone? Please tell me that not everyone have this experience. One lady reported sliming for 3 hours. She said she could not speak and her airway was partially blocked. All say it was painful. THE POLL QUESTION MAYBE CONFUSING. I FAILED TO EDIT BEFORE I POSTED. The question should read: Did you experience Sliming on solids?

    May 28th Anyone??

Thanks. I need to start walking. I am either bloated or still swollen. I can't tell. I hope the walking helps. I had about 3/4 cup of pureed bisque and I am hurting all over. I do not know if that was too much or too rich. I can't wait until this phase is over and I am feeling back to normal. Thanks to all who reply. I appreciate the input.
