"Regular" Medications after surgery???
angel96049 replied to Dee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me to wait a month post-op to begin swallowing pills again, and to begin by breaking them in half (the horse pills). It was hard for me because crushing the pills was making me so nauseas, and I didn't realize it until I started taking them whole again...such a relief!! Good luck! -
Hey girl, I just wanted to see how things have been going for you, and if you were able to break your stall yet? I'm still stuck, and have tried everything...I hope we start losing again soon!! It is a little discouraging to have the weight loss stall so quickly after surgery...gosh we can barely eat, how can we not be losing weight??? Take care

Tiff, What kind of Iron do you suggest? I am not taking one yet, and thought I should probably add it, but I'm not sure what kind or what dosage to start with? Thanks for all your help!! In the above thread the website/picture didn't work, I wanted to look into it, but not sure how to.

I just wanted to thank Pinkjewels! I finally did it! I fought my fear of the elliptical yesterday...and won!! Wow, it was rough! Definately a good workout! I just wanted to let you know what an inspiration you were to me!! Thanks again!

Introducing new foods too fast??
angel96049 replied to pnw218's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tiff, I was cleared for all fruits and veggies at 6 weeks out...now I'm worried, what is the other set of complications? I am also on an acid reducer (Nexium)... -
Protein Powder Survey - PLEASE READ
angel96049 replied to Behemoth845's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I really have a hard time getting my Protein in. I have tried so many different kinds without much luck. It is better now that I can eat solid food, but I still don't get in as much as I would like. My thought was, what if someone could create a protein pill??? It would make things so much easier, and if not a pill, what about a dissolving strip or chewable tablet?? I would buy these products in a second!! I'm not saying to stop all other forms of protein intake, but for the end of the day when we come up short, this would come in soooo handy!! Any thoughts on these products? Is it possible? -
Wow, that's great! The elliptical used to be my favorite machine back in my smaller days, and now I am soooo looking forward to being able to do it again. I haven't tried yet, but your story gives me hope, and a little push to take the plunge...I will try it today!!! Wish me luck and keep up the great work!!

Is chewing gum a problem after sleeve?
angel96049 replied to Grateful Heart's topic in Food and Nutrition
I chew gum all the time and have had no problems. My doctor didn't mention anything to me about gum either, but I'm sure it is safe as long as we chew the low sugar, low calorie ones...and don't swallow it...lol!! I hope this helps! -
Am I the only one that...
angel96049 replied to TiffanyIsMajor's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think all of us feel that way in one way or another! Although I made this choice for myself and my future, I would love to rub it in some peoples faces along the way!! All the people that looked down on me for being fat, or made fun of me, or dumped me because I wasn't good enough! I want them all to see what a great person they missed out on! As I lose the weight I feel my self confidence and self esteem returning, and it feels great!! Even if I don't get the chance to show off my new self, everything that I have gained from this experience is enough for me!! -
Let's get this singles forum going!
angel96049 replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so excited to hear how things are going for you guys and your new prospects! It took me years, but I have finally found "the 1"! I hope you guys don't give up. There will be good times and bad times, even after you find "the 1"! It is a long and bumpy road either way!! Can't wait to see how Chancie and her new man are doing? And if Oregondaisy made the three hour distance between them work? And if this might be "the 1" for Kermit? I have read so much about all of you, it kinda feels like we are family here!! What a good feeling, and I'm so glad I have all of you to turn to!! Keep us posted ladies...we're cheering for ya! I'm also curious to see if any of our sleeve brothers will post to this sight, it would be nice to hear their stories too!! -
What does your vitamin regime look like?
angel96049 replied to barbannn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take: 1-Nexium daily 3-Flintstones complete gummies w/ extra Vitamin C 2-tablespoons liquid calcium citrate 1000mg/vitamin D 1000 IU I am also curious about what I also need/am I taking the right stuff? I keep reading about Iron, what iron should I get? Also, do I need to take my calcium/vitamin D at any certain time? What is the difference between regular calcium and calcium citrate? Is Flinstones complete gummies with extra Vitamin C good enough? Do I need any certain vitamin B? I keep asking my nurse practioner but she doesn't specify, all she tells me is that I'm doing fine. I don't want to be fine, I want to be healthy!! Also, I was thinking about starting Biotin, to maybe help out with hair loss. Wow, that is alot of stuff to be taking:scared0:!! And do I have to take all this stuff forever?...I'm gonna have to get one of those huge daily pill boxes!!!:001_tongue: -

Looking for some advice from longtimers!
angel96049 replied to Timetofly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Dybarra, Congratulations on getting your new sleeve!! As far as the gurgling, it does calm down! Mine did that for a few weeks after surgery, I figure it was just getting used to all the new changes. I never felt too full on liquids, they do just go right through you. I started feeling fuller, and better when I started mushies. So I wouldn't worry too much about it now as long as your getting in your Water and Protein. My doctor didn't prescribe me any prilosec or prevacid, but he did suggest getting some chewable pepcid. The pepcid helps with the heartburn, but it is hard to get it regulated into your system like a daily dose of one of the others which stop the heartburn before it starts. If your heartburn is real bad, I would look into trying one and seeing which one works the best for you. Good luck on a quick and easy recovery, and no worries it sounds like you doing great!!! -
So I'm about a month out and having some troubles. I still get alot of heartburn which is understandable and I take chewable Pepcid for this issue, but my biggest concern is the horrible nausea I get!! I get it daily, usually with dry heeves. No matter what I eat, how much Water I drink, or how much Protein I get in. It is really making me unhappy, and I almost regret the surgery. I cannot live a normal life like this, and so far haven't been able to return to work it is so bad. The doctor said that nausea is normal...but I haven't read about anyone having this much of it and this bad. He prescribed Promethazine, which didn't seem to help much and only made me sleepy, and I also tried Promethegan suppositories which don't help either. It has been a rough month for me, and I am so scared I will have to live the rest of my life in this pain!!!:scared0: I take Norco for a previous back injury, the doctor told me that I shouldn't have any trouble with that. I thought maybe this medication is too strong for my new tummy. I never had any trouble with nausea and medication before. I was thinking about trying Prilosec, does that help with nausea too? I don't believe I have a leak because I am able to get food down, and I don't get any strong shooting pains. Sometimes I feel great, but this daily nausea is getting to me and I am becoming more and more depressed! So my questions to all of you are: 1) Did anyone feel this much nausea? 2) Is anyone taking any kind of nsaids? 3) When will it end? 4) Is something wrong with me? Please help!!!:confused1:

Very Scared Something is Wrong
angel96049 replied to breekahouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me that they are no longer allowed to give results over the phone, so hopefully that is why you had to make an appointment. I hope it is nothing, but it is always hard not knowing! Good luck at your appointment and let us know how it goes. -
OMG - my VSG is this morning!!
angel96049 replied to NewLifeForMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yaaaaaa, sleeve sister!! I'm so glad your having such a quick and easy recovery, not to mention dropping the weight like crazy!! Isn't it exciting!! It's nice that you got to spend time with your family, especially through the healing process. Keep us posted on your journey, and keep up the great work!! Take care of yourself! Your well on your way.... -
I agree with Tracy! I think it becomes a habit of overstuffing our plates and our faces...lol. Now that I am unable to do that, it almost feels as if I'm not able to enjoy it as much because my portion is smaller. I think alot of it is in our heads, and as for me, I think it will take time getting used to my new portions and being comfortable with them. I don't have any regrets thus far, and am so much more excited about losing weight, than I ever was about piling up my plate!!! There are alot of things to get used to, mentally and physically...just part of our journey!!

I messed up on pre-op diet...please help....
angel96049 replied to pumpkin07's topic in Food and Nutrition
I cheated a few times pre-op, (although I wasn't on a liquid pre-op diet) my diet was still pretty strict. My surgery went fine and the doctor said my liver looked great. Since you have been on the liquid diet so long and only cheated once, I think it will be out of your system in time for your surgery. Do you have to do an enema or anything like that pre-op? I did. ugh! I think we all go a little nuts from time to time, some times feel so much harder than others! In my opinion, I wouldn't worry too much about it. We all have such different pre-op diets, even though the outcome is the same. I believe that alot of it depends on your doctor and how strict he/she is. I know this is bad, but I didn't mention my cheating to my doctor nor did he notice, I was too scared that he would postpone my surgery. I hope this helps! Best wishes for a great surgery, and a quick and easy recovery...keep us posted! -
I am a month out and curious as to what things I can start eating after the mushie stage? My doctor didn't give me any info on that. I have read some things about some people not eating salads for 3-6 months...why is that? Same thing with raw vegetables. I just want to know what things are a go and what things are a definate no no, and the reasons why. If you all can help me out I would appreciate it, because I'm ready to eat...lol!!! I'm scared to take any chances though. Thanks all.

Fellow sleevers help please!!
angel96049 replied to angel96049's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all for your help and advice. I guess the first thing I am going to do is try the Prilosec since that is the easiest to obtain. I didn't know it helped with nausea too, or that my nausea was caused by acids. I really hope this works. My doctor said that one month after surgery I should be able to take pills normally again, so I hope they go down easily. I think now I might need medication for depression though, I have been so hard on myself about all this...I really feel down right sad! Well, I will wait to see if the Prilosec helps me feel better, maybe then I can finally begin the exciting journey I was hoping for!!! So I'm scared all these dry heaves will hurt my new tummy or even cause a hernia...any thoughts on this? I had a hernia operated on at the same time of surgery. Thanks again all, I appreciate all of your thoughts/prayers/advice. Nice to know my sleeve family is here for me!!
