  1. I was told at my pre-op appointment to eat and drink anything and everything I wanted.... I over did it. The morning of surgery, I was nervous and sick from what I ate the night before. I threw up 5 times and had to reschedule surgery for the next day. So, if they tell you to go all out and enjoy your last meal....don't do it!! I didn't eat much the day before the surgery actually took place because I was so sick.... And I had no nausea after the surgery.

    Last Meal....Don't over do it!!!

It sounds like a more sensible thing to have your "last meal" before the pre op diet. The person that told me is a patient advocate at the Dr.'s office and she was banded 5 years ago. She has lost over 150 pounds!

2 days post op and concerned

Have you been walking? They emphasized walking a lot....to help with the gas pains. Also, I'm not a Dr. but I would recommend small sips of water and liquid Advil. I read somewhere that Advil may help more than the narcotic pain killers that are prescribed to us. I tried it and it helped a lot. If you don't feel better, call your Dr. I called the day of surgery because I was in so much pain. I really wish they would be realistic and tell you that you will be in serious pain...rather than making it sound like you'll only have a little discomfort. I also talked to a friend that had the lapband and she said she was in a lot of pain for about a week. Good luck!!
  5. Personally, I do think losing 50 pounds is worth going to Mexico and doing whatever it takes. My BMI was under 35, but I have lost and regained weight at least 6 times. I know I can lose the weight, but I have never been able to keep it off. And it's not like I go "off my diet" and regain it. I've made numerous efforts to continue a "maintenance diet" though Weight Watchers, but I've never been able to keep it off long term. As my Dr. told me (I had it done in Dallas), yo-yo dieting is not good for anyone. I hope the band will help me lose the weight and keep it off long term. The surgery group I chose does lap bands for people with a BMI of 27 or higher.
  6. My surgery group, "Lapband Solutions" will perform surgery to anyone with a BMI of 27 and higher. I was at 179 when I decided to have the surgery because I did not want to wait until I was 100 pounds overweight. I think it's better to get it under control now rather than 100 pounds from now. I can eat, and I have lost weight and gained it back about 6 times. I've been under 130 about 6 times in my adult life, and no matter how hard I tried, I have gained it back every single time. I'm dealing with the "not having anything to wear" issue as well. Going clothes shopping is depressing. I carry my weight in the middle, which is awful. I had my surgery two days ago. I'm hoping and praying that it will help me lose the weight and keep it off long term.... Good luck to you!

    Spirometer???

I was wondering if everybody was told to breathe into a spirometer for 5 days after the surgery.... I'm wondering if this is done after any surgery or specifically after lapband....
  8. My total cost was $15,000 and it includes 1 year of fills. Check out www.trueresults.com or call 1-800-324-2694. I believe they have a center in Atlanta, Georgia. I had my surgery yesterday, so I still don't have a lot to report. Good luck!

    Last Meal....Don't over do it!!!

I was told to do a pre op diet for one week.... Two protein shakes, two servings of protein, green vegetables and one fruit. I decided to do it for 2 and a half weeks. So, I had been doing that....until after the pre-op appointment. The nurses at the surgery center said they would tell the Dr.'s office to stop telling people to have a big "last meal". I had my surgery yesterday and doing ok.... no nausea, just abdominal pain... Thanks for your comment.
  10. My surgery was yesterday (6-19) also. I had a similar experience. I had surgery at 7:30a.m. and was out by 10:00 a.m. I felt like total crap yesterday after the morphine wore off. I could not even roll over in bed, I was in so much pain. My incisions were also bleeding quite a bit. What was all that talk about "piercings"??? These are incisions, not little holes!!! I called the Dr. last night because I had a fever of 100.8 and was worried about the pain and the bleeding incisions. But, the nurse said it was normal. Then the surgery center called today and I gave them my pain status. He said, "You've been stabbed in the abdomen 5 times, so you will be in pain for a few days". I wish they would tell you this beforehand! I saw the Dr. after the surgery for like 15 seconds. He just said everything was fine.... I hope you get to feeling better. I've been combining the Hydrocone with liquid Motrin and it has helped a lot. Good luck!! One good thing....no nausea!!
  11. That's interesting..... When I was down to 130 pounds, I felt like people were nicer to me....especially men.

6 days post op and starving

I'm 1 day post op..... I was pretty hungry last night. I didn't think I'd be hungry the day of the surgery!! I'm on clear liquids and protein drinks. I can have unlimited broth! I couldn't image 3 tablespoons of stuff!! Good luck and keep up the good work! 15 pounds is awesome!

    Alcohol and banding

I definitely had that same concern. I was self pay. Did not have an ultrasound. So, when I woke up from the surgery yesterday, I was waiting for the Dr. to tell me they hadn't been able to band me because my liver was bad.... But, everything was fine. I think I've done more drinking than you....So, you should be fine!!
  14. I lost 8 pounds during the first week and 1 during the second week. I had a very hard time sticking to it during the second week. And, I was told to eat whatever I wanted the night before surgery, which was a big mistake. I was throwing up the next morning and I had to be rescheduled! I was banded yesterday. Lost two pounds on the first day
