    Needing some support

Hi Vicky, You're at Fort Hood.... I'm in Dallas. My fiance is at Fort Bliss in El Paso. Deployments must be so hard. I haven't gone through that, but I may in November. I'm going for my first fill this afternoon. I tried to get psyched up by thinking that I want him to see a difference in me the next time he sees me. I'm also a teacher, so I want everyone to see a difference when we get back to school in August. Good luck!

    Banded yesterday!

Congratulations! That single incision sounds good. I have 5 knife wounds!!
  5. I am not stomach hungry, but feel the need to eat!! ..... I've had 1 protein shake and 2 smushed eggs.... My stomach feels full, but my head is hungry!! Yesterday I couldn't control it and I ate too much. Didn't get sick or anything, but felt like I was eating without being stomach hungry. How do you deal with that??? HELP! I'm two weeks post op..

    Stretched pouch

There was a report on how clothes manufacturers have made their clothes inches bigger and kept the number lower. This is to encourage us to continue to purchase clothes. I have two thin sisters that have been the same weight their entire adult lives. One was a 9 and is now a 3-5. The other one was a 5 and is now a 0-1. One is 50 and the other 55. So, they have been the same size for over 30 years, but their size number has gotten smaller.

    Favorite Meal Post Op?

I'm only two weeks post op... so so far, baby cereal, guacamole and baked potato...

    drinking through a straw

I was told not to drink with a straw because you drink gas/air and it can stretch your pouch...

    A little worried I guess......

I'm with you. I'm one week post op and starving...... sometimes, I get a full feeling...but not very often. I'm terrified I wasted 15K. Hopefully it will be better after we get our fills....

Why did YOU get lap banded?

I chose the band because of the cost. Insurance would not cover me because I didn't have enough to lose. And because of the recovery time being shorter....but, now I wonder if I should have gone to Mexico and paid out of pocket for the sleeve.... I'm only one week post op and I'm starving... so I'm not too happy right now
  11. My dr. does put in saline during the surgery. He said since I was "so small" he would have to put more in. I don't know how much he put in. I'll find out when I go July 8 for my first official fill. Three weeks after surgery. I'm exited. Cuz I could eat a cow!!
  12. Each Dr. has different guidelines. Mine allows liquids and fruit baby food and FF yogurt during the first two weeks. Then mushies the third and mushed protein the 4th. My surgery was on Friday. Friday through Monday were very hard. I guess I'm starting to get used to it. It's only food.... It will be there forever.... The other day, I licked on some ketchup and pretended I was eating a corny dog. So, yes, it's hard. I guess there will be some days that are harder than others.... But there is this fear in me that if I eat something I'm not supposed to, I can loosen a stitch and that could lead to a slip. Oh no!! Don't want to have to pay out of pocket to have it fixed. The person that posted that almost everyone has to have the lapband fixed or replaced, has really bummed me out!! Ugh! I wish she hadn't said that . It's just constantly ringing in my head. I would just go to ER and have it removed with my insurance as an emergency operation. Can't shell out another 15K. Anyways, I'm off the topic. Are you having to do a pre op diet for two weeks? I was told to do 1 week since I didn't have that much to lose. But, I decided to go ahead and do two weeks like everyone else. It consisted of 2 protein shakes and two meals which consisted of protein, vegetables and 1 fruit. I don't know how I even heard about the lapband anymore.... seems so long ago since I started reading about it. I wanted to wait until summer to have it done, since I'm a teacher. I would tell you, I would take at least a week off work. I know some people have it done on a Thursday and are back to work on Monday, but I would have felt awful having to go back so soon. Today is the first day that I feel more "good" than "bad". Not having to take as much pain med anymore....

    newly banded

Liquid Advil has helped me a great deal. I'm taking it it combination with the prescribed Lortab. I ran out of Advil on Sunday, and felt the pain return. I got some more yesterday and it took away the pain on my shoulder. Good luck. I'm using a heating pad as well. Some people use ice...

    shoulder tip pain...OMG

Liquid Advil helped me a lot. I ran out of it and I could feel the difference on just taking the Lortab alone. If you don't feel better try Liquid Advil... Good luck?

    Have you cheated Post op???

My shakes are Myocel (which is pretty gross) and Atkins...which I have gotten so tired of... I don't know why I'm being so difficult. I actually lost weight once doing Optifast liquids ONLY for 3 months.... After Oprah lost her first weight...I had 5 shakes a day, each 100 cal. and that was it!! I am a horrible cook, but your soup sounds yummy. I'll try making it.

    Realize Band?

I think they are both good. I got the one with the pillows... There's a thread on this site with someone that is a major advocate for the lapband and not the realize band... maybe you can do a search.
  17. Ugh! :blushing: I would like to know since when 50 pounds overweight is "only 50 pounds overweight Since when did 50 become a low number This is why this country is the fattest country in the world! People from other countries can't help but stare at overweight people in this country. Or when they go to other countries as tourists, people stare. There are a lot less number of super obese people in other countries. Not that there's any... I watch TLC. A guy from the last name of Uribe, I think weighs close to 1,000 pounds. He was on TLC. He's from Mexico. But, guess where he gained his weight?? Dallas, TX!! Right here where I live!! My friend went to Italy and she's "only 80" or so pounds overweight. She told me she felt awful because kids would point at her, and kids and adults would stare . Don't scold those of us that don't want to get to that point. And, I'm doing it for vanity reasons as well! I know maintaining a normal weight will help me stay healthier overall, but yes, I'm vane and don't like having to wear a size 16!!
  18. You DO NOT have to be 100 pounds overweight to get the lapband. Go to www.lapbandsolutions.com It says on their home page: A lap band can help anyone with a BMI of 27 or higher. And yes, this is in the U.S. They have Dr.'s all over the country.....

    Egg Drop Soup Recipe

So, what do you with the ingredients?? Sorry, I never cook and during which week were you allowed to eat it? Sounds yummy!
  20. Hey Agnes, I wish they would have told me what to really expect post op.... I guess the Dr. and staff don't want to scare anyone off. What I was told is that some people experience gas pains around the arm or shoulder and that some experience discomfort around the port incision. This is my reality, I wish they would have told me. Hope it doesn't scare you though..... *I have 5 incisions, about half to one and a half inch long.... They told me I would have "piercings"..like little holes. *I have been in pain around the abdomen.....not just like the actual incisions, more like everything underneath hurts. Like if you've done lots of sit ups.... I think that's the gas. My shoulder has been killing me since the morphine and other pain killers that they gave me during surgery wore off. Liquid Advil and the narcotic together have helped. * My stomach feels yucky, but I'm hungry at the same time. Very hungry!!!But whenever I drink something.... I belch and it hurts. I've been so tempted to put a corny dog in the blender and eat a few bites! But I won't, I'd be hurting for sure, then, and mess up the band or something!! So, that's where I'm at 3 days post op. Since they emphasized walking so much, I walked on the treadmill twice yesterday (Dr.'s office recommended it) but, my shoulder is still hurting. By the way, I have a very low tolerance for pain. I'm a wimp!! How much is the surgery costing you in Tijuana? I paid 15K here in Dallas.... Just wondering, in case I need revision surgery or something. The person that posted that all lapbands have to be eventually replaced really scared me.... :blushing: not what I wanted to hear! Good luck Agnes!
  21. There are very rude people around here..... I could have easily waiting six months and I would have been at a 35 BMI, without even trying. I already have sleep apnea and reflux, so maybe in six months I wouldn't have had to shell out 15K. But, I didn't want to put my body amd emotional well being through that. Six more months of depression, no thanks. At least I have hope now. Right now, I feel like crap...... So, I'm not all that happy about how wonderful the lapband is... But, I'm only 3 days post op. Also, I asked my nurse and Dr. what PB was and they didn't know. They described what they thought it could possibly be... and they were right. But just because somebody doesn't know the terms on these boards doesn't mean they haven't researched the lapband.....
  22. I did not want to go out of the country to do it because I did not want to travel for follow ups and fills. Another reason is because I'm keeping this a secret for my family... Only my boyfriend and 4 friends know about it. So, I actually took a cab $12 to the surgery center. That's how close it is. It's only a few miles away 10 minute drive.
  23. Actually, I was hungry THE night after I had surgery..... I've heard alot of people say that they are not hungry due to swelling.... I'm very hungry!! I can't stand watching food on T.V. I want it!!! Am I the only one? Please, I hope I'm not. I want this "tool" to help me succeed!!! I don't want to feel like a failure already!!! Any encouragement would be helpful!!! Thanks!!
  24. I'm so proud. I couldn't get myself to do it yesterday, but I did it today. Just wanted to share because at my pre-op appointment they said to get on the treadmill and walk the day after surgery..... She said it would help with the gas pains. I'm sick of the gas pains and the medicine is not helping. The nurse said to start at 5 minutes and increase in 5 minute intervals. I'm also kinda upset because I gained a pound yesterday. So, I'm going to do the treadmill for 10 minutes before going to bed. I'll let you all know if it helps with the gas pain. What actually did help with my pain the day of the surgery and yesterday was liquid Advil in combination with the Lortab. I read somewhere that Advil may help more than the narcotic pain killers. So, I tried it and it worked !! But, I've run out and I don't want to drive yet..... By the way, I set the treadmill very slow, 1MPH and no incline.....
  25. Scared me! I self paid..... I was like..... WHAT??? I'm going to have to spend another $15,000. What have I done????? I'll make sure and ask my Dr.'s office.....
