  1. Happy 25th Birthday bottlerocket!

  2. Happy 24th Birthday bottlerocket!

  3. My mom got gastric bypass because she's older (48) and had a very significant amount of weight to lose (she's lost 200 pounds!) She felt that the band wouldn't do the trick because of the fact that her metabolism is slow due to age and because of the overwhelming amount of weight she had to lose. She's about 130 pounds now... I think that gastric bypass is a better choice for some people, especially if they are older and over 200 pounds overweight. If your metabolism just isn't strong enough to get healthy by restriction alone, I can understand why someone would get GB. It was definitely tough for her though, she did lose a lot of hair and have problems keeping food down. She's 2 years post-op now, though, and has regained all her hair and is very healthy and happy (and looks great, too!)

    Stupid mistake 8-days post op!!

Thanks Chicamam & Pennreporter - that's really really reassuring, I'm freaking out a little right now!! Even though I felt fine when I ate the eggs, I'm not going to have any more solids until 5 weeks just to be safe... I just really hope I didn't already do damage. It's good to hear that others had some mushy stuff at this time and didn't damage their band because of it! I'm still kind of scared, but feeling a little better now.

    Stupid mistake 8-days post op!!

My doctor did give me a chart with info about the post-op diet. It said I could have some mushy things by week 2, but I think the egg was more solid than the other stuff on the list. I just thought it was okay because I felt no pain, but now I know it isn't! I'm not going to do it again, I'm just really scared and worried now that I HAVE done it...
  6. Hey guys! This is my first time poking around the forum and I've just read some stuff that really scared me. I am now eight days post-op and I've been doing liquids until today, when I mushed up two hard-boiled eggs with a fork and ate it. My mother had gastric bypass and she encouraged me doing this, and I thought it was okay since I felt absolutely no discomfort. My doctor said that during the second week I could graduate to non-clear liquids including creamy soups, so I thought the mushy egg would be okay, but now I'm reading on here that any kind of solids before the five week mark are really bad and I'm super scared! I definitely won't be eating anything remotely solid again, but is there anyone else who did something like this? Did you damage your band because of it?
