This is kinda gross,
Katycando replied to Katycando's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks ya'll. I'm definately going back tomorrow as I am having the same response to water as I did the soup. Durn. ~Kat -
but most things on this site seem to be! I just had my 2nd fill and am feeling kinda crummy. I was hungry when I got home from the dr (rumbly in my tumbly kinda hungry) so I attempted a few swallows of tomato soup. Now, on top of the shoulder pain I've been having since the fill, I'm foaming, slimming, and even vomited what little bit of soup I'd swallowed. Now I'm trying to determine if a) this is a common reaction to the minor swelling that accompany's a fill, or  if they filled me too much. Ugh. I appreciate any insight. I've pretty much decided that if it's not better by tomorrow then I'm going to go back and have them unfill some. Thanks!!

Good News ONLY, Did you lose even 2 pounds post it here!!!
Katycando replied to A-WENZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just banded as well, and so far have lost 14lbs. here's hoping I keep losing (though a little slower and steadier)! -
I'm still on liquids, but have been wondering if I'll be able to eat the following foods once healed (these are NOT foods I'll eat often, but I really don't want a surprise at a social function): multi-grain tortilla chips steak (any specific kind? I'm a porterhouse girl) pork spicy foods (ie jalopenos) peppers rice I'd just like to hear how others have fared with these items. Thanks! Kat

I went into surgery down 7lbs (due to my pre-op diet). The next day I weighed myself when I got home and was UP 7lbs! I was surprised at this since I'd only had ice chips, water, and a spoonful of nasty hospital sugar-free jello. As of now, 3 days post op -and still on liquids-, I'm down 8lbs. Anyone else experience anything like this? Also, sometimes when I burp it feels like half of it gets stuck inside me and then I feel this sharp pain in my left shoulder. Is that routine enough not to be unusual? I'm going to have a book of questions to call my Surgeon about tomorrow!

When u were 2 months post op, how much did u lose?
Katycando replied to MsFab1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't forget too that when you're excercising so much you're building lots of muscle mass! -
aswash I'm with you. I feel full after just a few sips of my protein drink. Sometimes even a few sips of water is too much. I do know that my surgeon starts out w/ 2ccs of fluid in the 10cc band, so I guess that has a lot to do with it.

Just making sure this is 'normal'
Katycando posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just banded Thursday (yay!) and am now home. For the most part I feel pretty good. However, I have this odd feeling in my chest between my boobs. I'm assuming this is from the band/swelling? Does that sound right? Also, when I drink (still on liquids) I have a slightly uncomfortable feeling and then have the urge to burp, which rarely comes to fruition (much to my dismay, I think I'd feel much better If I could burp or toot). I'm obsessive and paranoid so I just want to see what ya'll think (plus it's Saturday so I can't exactly call my surgeon as this isn't an emergency). Thanks! -
I can't burp but feel like I NEED to!!

I am so with you!! I was just banded on Thursday and feel much the same way. Yay, we're normal! Good luck! -
Weight loss during pre-op diet
Katycando replied to preciosarose2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was JUST in your shoes! I lost (only) 6lbs on my diet, and was concerned that my very strict surgeon wouldn't operate on me. However, this was not the case at all. He was fine with my weightloss and even told me my liver looked fantastic! -
My surgery date is tomorrow. I've been on a liquid diet for the last week, and have only managed to lose 6lbs. The whole point of the liquid-only diet is to lose fat/shrink liver so now I'm worried my uber-strict surgeon won't operate. Anyone else have this issue? I hope I'm just retaining water!! This is suprising and frustrating.

confused and irritated
Katycando replied to Katycando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks Ladies. Dr. Fontana seemed pleased with my weightloss, and even commented that my liver looked fantastic. Unfortunately, He still had to make extra incision b/c of a hernia in my stomach (which I didn't even know I had!). Otherwise surger went great. I was freaking out about the weight loss b/c I had heard stories of women losing 10-15lbs! Utlimately, I was scared he would think I didn't follow the diet adn not operate! Thanks again! Kathryn -
My band date is 9/17. I'm super excited, and looking forward to losing a lot of weight over the next 2 years. I am not, however, looking forward to saggy this and that. I'd like to avoid surgery (except maybe a boob job, which I was planning regardless of band) again, so I'd like suggestions on specific lotions, creams, excercises, etc...that successful bandsters have used to stave off flappy body parts! Thanks so much guys!

Being on a clear liquid diet for 5 days has really helped me evaluate how I eat. I never realized how much I snack. While cooking (housewife, so 3 meals a day), while giving the little ones a snack, while watching tv during their nap time, in the evenings with my husband. I truly never realized what a habit it was, until Friday. I was cooking a meal I wasn't allowed to eat (liquids only!),and without conciously making the decision, I popped a few morsels in my mouth. It wasn't until I was nearly done chewing that I realized what I'd done. Wow. Well, 5 days my 7 day diet the habit is being broken. I feel great, I've lost 6lbs, I'm excited about surgery Thursday, and FINALLY the sugar-free pudding tastes good!!

Anyone w/ Sentara Norfolk?
Katycando replied to Katycando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I went to Dr. W's seminar (I'm not even going to TRY to spell it!), but chose Dr. Fontana b/c he was available when I called. They're all pretty swell though. The only negative thing about their practice is the redundant nature of the pre-op classes! Other than that, they've all been really helpful and calming. -
My surgeon is Dr. Mark Fontana with Sentara, just wondering if anyone else out there is going through the same group. My surgery is sched 9/17; it'd be nice to contact others in my area.

How much have you lost?
-
Well, they were right. It does get easier. Once healed I doubt I'll ever want to so much as smell tomato soup again, but I've done okay. Lost 6lbs in <5 days. Whoo hooo! What a way to start! now, if only my nerves will calm down.... I've adjusted to the sweeteners. matter of fact, I'm almost enjoying the sugar-free puddings! I am not, however, enjoying what this liquid diet is doing to my digestive system!

OMG this sucks. I've never liked sugar substitutes, and just about everything I'm allowed to eat is loaded with them. I'm irritable, hungry, I have a NASTY headache, my baby is teething and hasn't stopped crying for the last 2 hours, and to top it all off my tummy is gurgling in a way that tells me I'm going to be spending some unpleasant time in the bathroom. I cheated a bit last night, ate some noodles I was serving my family for dinner. I am determined not to cheat again. I really want this surgery, and my surgeons are super-strict.

So, my surgeon requires a pre-op 7-day clear liquid diet w/ less than 20gms protein per day, which I started today (band date 9/17) I'm looking for menu suggestions! Thanks!

I need help w/ liquid diet!
Katycando replied to Katycando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks ya'll. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed ANY solids at all, and since most shakes are 15+ gms protein, I'm limited to one shake per day and a bunch of sugar free puddings and jellos. Uck. Good luck to you both! -
Today I started my pre-op 7 day diet. Clear liquids, <20gms protein, 64oz liquid per day for 7 days. It's 9:37am on day 1 and already I'm obsessing. Can I do this? Can I make breakfast, lunch, and dinner for my family and not eat myself? Can I avoid the random nibbles that go hand-in-hand with preparing meals? Will this help me to learn not to snack so much while cooking?Hey, this could be a good thing afterall. I bet I consume at least 100 calories per meal when cooking. A nibble of cheese here, a bit of broth there, it all adds up. Licking the batter bowl is just as bad as eating the cake. I can do this. I know I can.
