Hiya. Let's see, where to begin? How about some stats? 28 yrs., 5'4'', 280 lbs. I'm still deciding whether or not to get the band. I'll be self-pay and I'm afraid it's just too expensive. I went to a seminar today at the Surgery Center of Richardson. From what I saw it looked like a very nice facility. The presenters were great, but I was a bit disappointed not to actually get to meet the doctor. His Nurse was there and she was very competent and seemed nice. She has the band herself and has lost quite a bit of weight. I've got a consultation with Dr. Jayaseelan on 7/19/06. We'll see how I feel then. I have started buying (and sampling) the liquids that I would have to be on before surgery. I've even given up Dt. Pepsi. Which is a major sacrifice for me. I'm still worried about the money, but I'll probably take the plunge. I'm tired of cringing every time I catch sight of myself in a mirror.

Thanks for the support. I'm sure I'll feel better once the surgery actually happens. I guess I"m just nervous, I've never had any type of surgery before. The aunt who might come is mostly retired from a family business. She only works when she feels like it. So I guess that would be easiest for everyone.:guess Hey thanks, your're my very first BandBuddy!!:clap2:

1. Go back up to the doctor's tomorrow and get my pre-op bloodwork and EKG done. 2. Be able to wear my size 22 jeans and breathe at the same time. 3. Another goal is to be able to wear my favorite garnet ring. (another post reminded me of this one. It's just a little too tight, so 15 lbs from now it ought to fit. My scale mini-goal is to drop 30 lbs. I don't have a deadline for this, but I have decided on a reward. I'll finally buy myself an ipod.

Hi y'all I've going to my first consultation with Dr. Jayaseelan next week. I would like to know what to expect. I've heard that various tests are done before the actual surgery. Are they likely to be done that day or are they scheduled that day. Also I'm going to be paying for this myself, so I expect that will cut down on the amount of pre-surgery tests & paperwork b.s. I'd really appreciate any inside information y'all could share with me.

I love the Cracker Barrel. I'm hoping to go there the day before I have to start my pre-op liquids. I'll have the fried chicken tenderloin sandwich. On toasted sourdough bread with mayo & bbq sauce. And frenchfries. :hungry:My family teases me b/c I always say that sandwich is so good it could inspire world peace. Yummy!!!

Hi y'all, I'm in Texas. I'm still thinking about getting banded. I'll be lurking on this site until I make up my mind. I'm going to attend an info. seminar soon in Richardson. The name of the place is the Surgery Center of Richardson. Has anyone gotten their band there and what was their experience like? If I decide to do this, I'm sure I'll be on this board frequently.

I'm 5'4" and I'm hoping to get down to 140. I'm not sure what is the "ideal" weight for my height, but 140 sounds good.

Well, I seem to have made progress with the pondering. I went to an informational seminar last Saturday. Now I have made an appointment with Dr. Jayaseelan for a consultation. So now my question is, What will we consult about? What kinds of things go on at a consultation? I assume height, weight, medical history discussion. What else? I'm going to be a self-pay if that matters.

This is a test. I repeat, this is only a test. Had this been an actual signature, I would have said so. This is only a test.

Well I went to the seminar yesterday. It was very nice. Low pressure, very imformative. They compared the Lap-Band to two other types that are more invasive. I was a little disappointed that the doctor wasn't there. I mean, if I'm going to let this guy cut me open (even laproscopically) then I'd like to meet him. His nurse was there and she gave the medical part of the presentation. Of course I had my own medical person with me (my mom is a nurse) so I know she wasn't just candy coating everything. There was also a psychologist type and a former patient. The nurse had the band too. I was suitably impressed. Still worried about the money though. I had an interview for a part-time job this past week. If I get that job I'll get banded. If not........well I probably still will, I'll just have to borrow the money from my parents.

Guess now I know how to get people's attention on this board. Just ask them not to look.

Me too! I just finished re-reading the 6th. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the 7th. next year. I'm also a fan of several other series mentioned in this thread: Stephanie Plum especially. I have to wait for paperbacks, so I haven't read 12 Sharp yet. My absolute favorite author is Robert Heinlein. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy. I Love Books!!!:clap2: Right now I am reading Jubilee Trail by Gwen Bristow. It is set in the 1840s and is about a girl who travel with her husband from civilized (&boring) New York to wild (&fascinating) California.

Hi, Has anyone out there gone the self-pay route? I may have to and I was wondering how deeply in debt I might become. If someone wouldn't mind ballparking I would really appreciate the info.

yippee! i did it. only took me 4 tries!

Thanks for all the input y'all. I did a search of previous threads and found most of what I was looking for. I also saw several posters mentioning lots of paperwork. It seemed that most of it had to do with getting insurance to pay though. What kind of paperwork or tests do most self-payers have to contend with?

Hey there, I'm going to a seminar tomorrow too. I guess this is just the "done" thing with this surgery. I still haven't quite made up my mind that I can afford it (I'll be self-pay). But I figure going to the seminar can't hurt.
