Protein Help Needed
Stephanie1972 replied to kathyv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Wheybolic (Chocolate) from GNC and add a tbsp of PB and a few ice cubes...it's yummy. -
I was just banded 2 days ago. Thursday was icky. I felt so groggy and tired and sore. I slept when I got home from surgery for 7 hours...stayed up for 1, then went to sleep. Yesterday I was extremely sore and still groggy. I was pretty comfortable sitting, but not getting up and sitting down. I did have a heating pad by my side which gave me a lot more comfort. I also walked 60 minutes yesterday which I think helped today, because I feel great today. Still soreness, but not nearly as much. I exercised 70 minutes today....low impact, but still. I took 1 pain pill the day of surgery, that was it for me...I think the more you force yourself to exercise after the surgery, the quicker you will recover. From my understanding, the recovery is NOTHING compared to bypass surgery. And as I've been told, it's a few days of discomfort/pain, for a successful rest of your life. You pick. :-)

Had surgery yesterday (Friday)--in a great deal of pain--is this normal?
Stephanie1972 replied to remoteportal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Thursday morning, so just a day before you. Surgery day was wiped out and very sore. The day after (yesterday) was very hard too..getting up was a chore, lying in bed was a chore...tons of pain in the port area. Today, I feel a ton better. I'm still sore but it isn't unbearable. In fact, I offered my husband to have some friends over to cook ribs (obviously I would not partake in the eating of those ribs)...I walked an hour (broken into 15 minute slow intervals) the day after surgery and that helped a lot with the gas pains...I've already walked 30 minutes today...try that. -
left shoulder pain?
Stephanie1972 replied to Roses4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes!! It absolutely is the gas pain. I was banded just 2 days ago and I have it everywhere...even in my chest. Yesterday was my first day post op and I exercises lightly for 60 minutes. I woke up this morning and feel VERY little pain...trying walking for up to an hour (break it up). It's really supposed to help with the gas pains. -
Hello from N. Carolina!
Stephanie1972 replied to RaceGirl88's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded by Dr. Bauman yesterday morning!! Yipeeeeee for our fellow North Carolinians! -
Wow...all 3 of us have the same band date! I was banded at 800 yesterday morning. I am so friggin sore! The gas is uncomfortable. I've already gotten 1/3 of my water in for the day and 1/3 of the protein and I walked 45 minutes so far...very slowly though. Good luck to you both!

Emotional Eating
Stephanie1972 replied to Pangaeus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll add something to all of this. Yes, your therapist has a great point. The reality is that ALL of us are emotional eaters. We are using food as a void. The band will FORCE you to find another outlet because you will no longer be able to drown yourself in food. I would highly recommend doing some introspective research to find other things that may fill that void that are HEALTHY and that will help you with peace of mind and successful weight loss. -
yes, but you won't have a fill once a month...I think it'll give you peace of mind to use a doctor you're comfortable with.

Can someone tell me how to figure what "50 percent of your excess weight" is?
Stephanie1972 replied to HollyRnOh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
50% of your excess weight is an AVERAGE. Many people lose all of their excess weight (if they are compliant and exercising) while there are some that don't lose anything (they cheat the band by eating and drinking unhealthily). The average of the compliant folks and non-compliant is 50%. I fully intend to lose 100% of my excess weight. If I didn't plan on that, I would not have this surgery. -
LeAvE Me AlOnE!!!!!
Stephanie1972 replied to 2Flyguys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok, you crack me up. I look forward to the day when I can tell others to leave me alone...awesome weight loss! I'm being banded on the 16th (7 days and counting) -
Who did your band? I will be banded by Dr. Bauman in NC next Thursday using the Realize Band. Are you following the "diet"?

just beginning to check lap band out
Stephanie1972 replied to fluter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Specifically, what complications are you concerned about? The lap-band is SO safe. In fact, I've been told by every surgeon I researched that it's no more dangerous than any other surgery. The biggest risks are anestesia for someone who is obese but they are TRAINED to handle that. I was pre-diabetic and now I'm diabetic. Honestly, there's no such thing as pre-diabetes. You are destined for it. If you lose the weight, it will go away...if you don't, the complications you risk from diabetes are much higher than any risk in the OR. Plus, the surgery itself takes about 30 minutes. -

Frustrated with my self

Have you considered starting by getting a fill? That might be the kick start you need for success...You can do this!! Let the band work with you... -
Set back on my program
Stephanie1972 replied to sanderson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone felt rotten? Yes! I feel physically rotten almost always! Don't beat yourself up...seriously. It's not going to do you ANY good. Pick yourself up...brush yourself off. The 1 scoop of ice cream is not going to sabotage your efforts. Just don't do it again. :-) -
Outstanding work !!! I can imagine how very proud you are to hit that milestone...and look...you're 1/2 way to goal! Keep it up.

ok, I have a dumb question. I created a ticker, but I don't know how to get it onto my lbt.com profile. Can anyone help me?

questions about weight loss with the band???
Stephanie1972 replied to curleytop's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Do you know approximately how many calories you're taking in right now? What exercise is being done as well? -
You will be fine. I am being banded by Dr Bauman on April 16th! I know based on the dates, that you will be on mushies during your camping trip. I'd bring some healthy soups and fat free refried beans. Be very careful of campfire temptations because your band is still forming to your new stomach. Any non-compliance could cause slippage or other problems.
