Hi all. Hope everyone's well. I haven't been on , just been healing etc., resting, and eating and drinking incredibly mindfully - its about time! Thanks lapBand. I can't update / fix my signature from here (my mother's house and her Mac as opposed to my PC), but I'll do the best I can in this post: Pre-surgery weight: 235 Weight am of surgery after a clear liquid fast for one day before: 231.4 Surgery Date: 8/1/06 (two days ago!) Haven't weight myself yet and I won't until next Tuesday or Wednesday...not going to become obsessed as I have in my long ago past when I was actually anorexic twice before. WHAT CRAZINESS. Ciao!

Tomorrow's the day. I just foiund out I have to be at the hospital by 8am and the surgery's at 10:30am. I'm so glad it's finally here so I can be glad it's over and all went well. I didn't have to follow a pre-op diet/lose weight before surgery But I am on only clear liquids today. I have to do clear liquids for only one day after surgery then directly to thin purees. Please keep me in your positive thoughts tomorrow at 10. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

NYC and immediate area Bandsters & Doctors
kmwwmk replied to kmwwmk's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
So glad to get a response so soon. Hmmm, I didn't know Dr. Ren, who I also researched, was doing a low BMI study. Mine is only 29....and so, of course my insurance wouldn't cover it. (Bastards!) But we decided to go ahead with self-pay and fight the insurance co. later. I didn't want to put off the surgery as I am off work till September so now I at least have a month to recover before going back to work. Feel free to read my other posts at August Crew Bandster and ?.............I forget the other.:bananapartyhat: Let's talk soon. Karla aka KayEm:) -
I did a lot of shopping today. Of course I bought everything I will need for tomorow which is all day clear liquids. I also bought some things for thin puree so I'd know what I like such as baby foods. That was funny. I tries severl Gerber and BeechNut stage 2 foods today. I was not instructed to do a pre-op diet. I guess the surgeon's not concerned about my liver. But I think EVERYBODY must do clear liq. the day before. I am sooo excited. My mother, great as she is, is doign the first week shopping for me tomorrow so I don't have to be in supermarkets etc. while only having liquids. Too tempting. I wish all first week of August Bandsters well and a smooth uneventful surgery. :bananapartyhat:

ditto here, Lizzilo. thanks for the tip re: lyquid tyl. When I was 16 I used it for cramps because I couldn't swallow pills yet. (not that it worked for menstrual pain) and it was much easier to find, then. I'm an armchair astrologer...good analogy.

I feel the same way, Lizilo. My date is this coming Tues. (8/1) and I just came back from a vacation out of town which is also always an excuse to eat your heart out! I'm excited, nervous but most of all I can't wait to begin this new journey. Just remember how good we we feel, how many ailements, aches and pains will go away, how much better we'll look and the energy we'll have. Focussing on the positives, not what I won't be able to eat anymore, this is what I am trying to do. I hope everything goes well with your surgery and we (all these member) will be here to support each other throught thr post-op phase and beyond.

Boo Boo Kitty and Sandee (and everyone else), Im soooo excited and somewhat nervous. I can't believe its Tuesday 8/1/06 so soon. Im all set and can't wait to get healthy either. Can anyone share with me the list/items they were told to ave on hand (NOT food) for right after you get out of the hospital? No one at my hosp. told me that kind of stuff adn I've read some "packing lists" from some other on LapBand Talk. Thanks a lot, in advance and a healthy, smooth procedure for everyone!

Hi Jewels. Welcome to the August banders club. My surgery date is August 1st. I was not told to follow any sort of pre-op diet. I think if you are a certain BMI or ove a certain weight, your wurgeon will have youfollow a diet because they don't want youto have a fattly live during operation. I'm not sure. I better talk to my doctor and make sure I'm not supposed to be on a special diet. I only have two weeks to go. Is anyone who is about to be banded, a smoker??

can anyone please teach me how to add the tickfactory ticker I designed, to my profile. Thanks a lot!

Hello everyone. I have found this site so very informative and helpful to me as I take this journey. So I'd like to first thank everyone for being so open and sharing their experiences. I am having surgery withe the team at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC and have attended the pre-op class and consultation with my surgeon. I have a surgery date of August 1st, 2006. I have had my psychological evaluation and met with the dietician. Lenox Hill has submitted my info. to my insurance provider (GHI) and fI ound out yesterday that I was denied!!! I have gotten conflicting information about why I was denied. I have been told it is because my BMI isn't high enough (it's 39.2 instead of 40 so I'm a whole .8 points away!!) and I don't have co-morbidities then I was told it's because my doctor's progress notes from the required 6 month physician documented diet aren't sufficient. I am about to research weight loss surgery lawyers. I am not giving up without a fight. What I'm hoping is that when GHI finds out that I've hired a lawyer, they will cave so they won't have to deal with a drawn-out suit and possibly having to pay all the legal fees if they lose. In the end I've already decided that I will pay out-of-pocket if I can't get my insurance to cover it. I have a surgery date of August 1st. So whether GHI pays for it or not, I WILL be banded on August 1st, 2006 and I'm really excited and nervous. This is going to change my life forever. If anyone out there has hired a lawyer and fought to get their insurance to pay (especially if it was GHI) and won, please e-mail me. Also, if there's anyone who is going to have their surgery on or about 8/1/06 and would like to go through this with someone, let me know!
