When I started to research WLS I was leaning towards the band. It seemed to be a simple surgery and not very invasive. Then I started reading different boards and about how unhappy so many were and the problems they were having. What struck me were the healthy foods that seemed to not work with the band, such as broccoli and other vegetables. I thought that was terrible. I wanted to eat less but I still wanted to be able to eat some of my favorite vegetables, etc.

From everything I've been able to find, he is the 'go to' surgeon for this operation. That is part of the reason why I did not go through months of trying to get insurance approval. Here in Vegas the doctors are not experienced with the sleeve. They do the other surgeries but not the sleeve. They are just now beginning to do them. I don't want to be one of the first ten a doctor does. I want my guy to have done many, many. Aceves meets that bill.

This thread is amazing. You see all of those commercials for the band and it sounds like a piece of cake. That is what I originally was going to push for. Actually my insurance would pay for it. Then I started researching and read about all of the problems associated with the lapband. I am not a barfer. I can't even remember the last time I barfed. Not even during pregnancy. So no way did I want to spend the rest of my life barfing - even on healthy foods. Then I saw something on the sleeve and started to look into it. I knew this was for me. I kept researching and see that complications are more of the exception than the rule. That convinced me. I didn't even want to spend months and months trying to fight my insurance company who would pay for either a lapband or the bypass. So I started accumulating my funds and now I will be done in a few days. Also, reading this thread makes me understand Sharon Osborne. I saw her on a t.v. interview show and she mentioned that she was getting her lapband removed the next day and she could not wait to get the bloody thing out of her body. I didn't know what the problem was, but I do now. You just don't hear about any of this much on t.v.

I'm just like you. Once I made my final decision I wanted it done - NOW. I just had to wait a little bit to gather the last of the cash I needed, but if I could not have done that I would have financed. If your health isn't worth it what else in you life would be? When I decided it was time for my gallbladder to come out, I walked into the doctor's office and said that I wanted it out tomorrow. OK, it took a week to get on the surgeon's schedule, but I got it done when I wanted it done. I've decided this is the time to do it regarding my weight and so now I'm gong to do it!!

I'm sorry you have to worry about the little one today. I'm sure Grammie will take good care of him. You concentrate on YOU. I hope it is all a piece of cake. Pardon the pun. -
I had my gallbladder removed last August. I am still having pain in that area sometimes. It can't be from fatty foods as I am still having it even though I've been basically on liquids the past couple of weeks. So what is going on? I live in fear of Pancreatic cancer (don't laugh) as I had a cousin and aunt both die from it. Any of you in the medical field have any thoughts? I'd go see the surgeon but I'm only ten days out from the VSG and I don't want anything to delay that.

If you want to live under a microscope then tell them. I'm not telling anyone except the people who will miss me while I'm in Mexico and I've told them I expect complete confidentiality. So if my son and daughter don't want to be cut out of the will :rolleyes2: they will keep their mouths shut. Anyone who notices my weight loss I will tell them I'm losing under the supervision of a doctor on a modified liquid diet, including Protein and limiting my carbs. True. Right? I'm not interested in anyone's opinions or judgements or advice.

Normal exercise is so boring! I do like to walk, but it is already getting HOT here so I'd have to be sure to get out early. Because it is HOT the pool is perfect right now. I don't have a huge, lap pool. I lovingly refer to it as my 'pond' but my 5-yr. old grandson is very excited to play in it. I've been using him as my exercise tool. I lift him, twirl him, jog up and down while carrying him. And I'm having fun! Woo Hoo :rolleyes2:

I read that you should not take toradol for more than five days. Are you recommending we get more to bring home? I understand buying the Nexium because from what I read the acid could last a good while. -
There is an airport in Calexico but it has very limited service. For better flight schedules and fares San Diego has it beat.

I lived in California for many years and heard horror stories about driving in Mexico without actual Mexican insurance. They make their own rules down there and just because you have US insurance may or may not make a difference to them. The best way is to have the driver pick you up.

My surgery with him is scheduled for May 27. For a while it seemed like it would never get here and now it feels as though it is just around the corner. -
Taken last night. You CAN do it even at 66!
