I had to have surgery on my varicose veins and then had to wear a full, panty hose, style. You should try putting THAT on. I cried the first time I tried.

Diet after Sleeve Surgery?
Rosebud2 replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't have a plan from your doctor check out this site: http://www.hopkinsbayview.org/bariatrics/docs/nutrition_sleeve.pdf -
It sounds as though the records are incomplete because it would have documented his incompetence. You are going to be so happy now that it will soon be a bad memory.

When I fly on long trips, I've taken to wearing support pantyhose. It gives me just enough help to lessen the swelling I normally get on long flights.
-
Thanks. That is my plan. Obviously I'm not ready for anything heavier.

Super Size Me/Documentary
Rosebud2 replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So many women don't cook family meals now. I worked, but we ate family dinner at home at least six days a week. Now they make a big deal about family home dinners and give high fives if they do it once a week. So where are the families? At the fast food joint. You can make good dinners that don't take a long time or a lot of money. You have to be a careful shopper. Fast food is not that cheap when you are going with a family. I know what you mean about leaving in the morning and only turning up for meals. We were out biking, skating, jumping rope, etc. -

Did your doctor tell you an expected weight loss?

One year, you old whippersnapper you. No wonder we look to you for advice. :biggrin0: -
Did your doctor tell you an expected weight loss?
Rosebud2 replied to libguy2753's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:thumbup: Well said. I printed out photos of me in my youth when I still look GOOD. (Figuring the BMI charts now I never knew it was that low. I always felt fat because I weighed 136 pounds and my 5'2" friends all weighed 110.) Anyway, I brought them to Mexico with me and had them all around the room to remind me of why I was doing this. :biggrin0: Dr. Aceves came in and saw them and asked if that was me. I told him yes and he gave me the thumbs up. I told him that was what I was going back to and he gave me a high five. As I left the hospital he told me he wanted to see me when I got there. He was very encouraging and made me feel good. He never said "Oh, you're too old and you have too much to lose." That is the kind of doctor you want. -

I think that is BS. I think it truly depends on you. If you are determined, you will get where you want to be. I post on another board that has been around a while and most people use the tickers, and you can see how amazingly well most have done. Some take longer than other, but the ones that apply themselves get to their goal weight. The ones that don't will post things like "I didn't plan to spend the rest of my life on a diet." No, you don't have to be on a diet the rest of your life, you need to make wiser choices. -
Yep, you got it with the steri strips from your description. I had to pull them off as I could see redness of the skin developing under them.

When I have had other surgery they used a 'papery' type of surgical tape it doesn't seem to have the same adhesive. But I yield to the nurses here.
-
He is the most caring doctor I've had since I was a little girl.
-
At the present time and until I reach my goal, I'm on a diet, meaning I will be doing low end allowed. That incorporates a lifestyle change and the lifestyle change will be with me the rest of my life. Not that I don't expect to have a treat every now and again.

Relief of Post-op Gas
Rosebud2 replied to learned2bskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's good information for future reference. I'm not sure if that would be allowed after sleeving. I'll leave that to others. -
Why would you leave the US for surgery?
Rosebud2 replied to Leuteus's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
"If you don't like your insurance provider just change jobs???" How cavalier can you get? What world do you live in? You give up your job because you don't like the insurance carrier? Your job satisfaction, tenure, and other benefits don't count? That says nothing about the current economy where, if you have a job, you'd dang well better keep it. I could have paid to have it here in my city, but none of the bariatric surgeons had any experience with the sleeve. I voted for experience over locality. I've had surgery here and if you see your surgeon for five minutes after the surgery, you are lucky. I liked seeing my personal surgeon come to check on me three times a day every day I was there and that didn't include the visits from his assistant, the Internest and the Anesthesiologist both before and after surgery. Do you realize many of the doctors you currently go to have been trained outside of the United States because they could not get into medical school here? Your post is one of the most ignorant I've seen on any of the boards. Bah-bye, don't let the door hit you in the ass. -
I have to admit that I had a couple of Atkins shakes today. I emailed Nina first and she said it would be OK. I was getting shakey from no protein to speak of for seven days. I'll still wait until Friday to go the rest of the full liquids.

What is with this lactose intolerance?
Rosebud2 replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Food and Nutrition
Even if it was milk or cream, I'm sure it was loaded with sugar. From all the board I've read sugar seems to set off a lot of people and set them off quickly. -
It is totally amazing that ten WL doctors have ten different post-op diet plans. I wonder why that is??????

Doesn't the frozen yogurt have a ton of sugar in it? You probably were reacting to the sugar. -
Johns Hopkins University Vertical Sleeve Diet plan doesn't have you on clears except in the hospital. You come home on a modified full liquids. Here is the link. It sure makes a lot of sense. It is so hard to get your Protein in with clears. http://www.hopkinsbayview.org/bariatrics/docs/nutrition_sleeve.pdf

 I've screwed up. I should have talked to my PCP before the surgery about my blood pressure meds. The first days after the surgery I didn't take them in the hospital as my blood pressure was normal to a little under and I didn't want it to drop. Since I've been home I've dissolved the tablets and taken them. WRONG. My blood pressure is through the roof. It has never been this high. I went to the pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist and she said I should never have dissolved them. This morning I just cut them in half and taken them. I'll see if that helps. She is not sure about it as it should be released slowly. Her suggestion is to monitor it the next day or so and if it still remains high to go to PCP and have her prescribe one that I can take 3 - 4 times a day until I can go back to taking my pill whole. So, my advice is to check with your PCP before your surgery to see if you need to make adjustments to your meds the first 30 days after surgery.

I think the doctor's concern is getting them down your new pipes. So talk to your PCP and find out for sure if you meds can be crushed or if there is a liquid you can take in the beginning.
