  1. This poor gal on OH is 2 1/2 weeks out and her doctor told her she could eat 1 - 1 1/2 cups of food at a meal and that she could eat regular food. food stuck in stomach some doctors should not be allowed to do the sleeves. How dare he not do his research beforehand? It is all out there. All he had to do was a web search.

    Sweet potato

What a great idea. I had nixed the mashed potato, but sweet potato has good stuff in it. I really like it better.
  4. (Part II - they don't allow a longer message)

My challenge is I'm having friends the end of next week for dinner and I've chosen to tell no one but my immediate family about the surgery. I'll still be on mushies so it will be a challenge to figure out something to make that they won't notice that I'm not eating like them. Once we are off mushies it will be OK. We can order an appetizer. I love appetizers any way. I've ordered them as my dinner before.

  5. I feel great. I have always been the energizer bunny. I've run circles around my family forever. The past six months I was slowing down and I didn't like it. It was because my legs and feet would hurt too much. That was part of the push for me to get the surgery. (Of course, turning 65 this month has nothing to do with it ;-) ).

I'm not sure about the pain in the shoulder. The doctor thinks it is gas, either from eating too fast, too much or swallowing air. I didn't have any restriction from swallowing when I got home, so maybe I'm drinking too fast. If it persists, I'll probably go get it checked out.

I do and don't miss the food I used to eat. I see it and think I want it but mentally it isn't that important any more (at least right now). I hope I can keep up that attitude.

Some doctors should not be doing sleeves

You're right. I am guilty of forgetting that and take people at their word.

    Being informed

Yes, you are right. They have an addiciton. She was not in the proper mental place for the surgery. You have to make decisions BEFORE the surgery that this is going to be a lifetime change. Even when you are on a full foods stage, you can't be eating malts, cake and chips and expect to see positive results.

    Artificial sweetners

Hmmmm. The Atkins shakes have artificial sweetners.

Do you know what drives me nuts? The people who have this surgery and have a chip on their shoulder. "I didn't have this surgery to be on a diet" people. There is a woman on the other board who is just a couple of weeks out and not due to go on mushies until tomorrow and she is posting about how she cheated with a few bites of CAKE and had colby jack cheese (which isn't even mushies.) and she is one of those who has the chip. She wasn't understanding that the harsh responses were to try to get into her head that at this point she was risking problems. We all chose VSG because some day we want to go back to "normal", or a refined normal with our eating, but damn, don't risk problems when we are only talking 30 days. Grrr! Don't you know she will be back at six months wondering why she hasn't lost weight and about how unhappy she is with the surgery.
  10. This site is a bit confusing.

The donkeys are adorable. Are they calm type creatures? I wish you lived closer, I'd love to see them.

I am doing great. I don't even feel like I had surgery. The first few days I weighed more than when I left. Since then I've lost ten pounds. I'm thrilled with that. But the last couple of days I've had trouble "eating". I was doing fine on the Atkins shakes, but I tried adding extra protein to them and can hardly get them down. I've been getting some pain in the back near my shoulder. I've emailed the doc as I don't think it is urgent, but if it gets worse I'll take further steps. I think there is a lot of acid in there.

You will do fine. The surgery was not bad. The only uncomfortable day I had was the second day when I was trying to get rid of the gas. I don't even feel as though I had surgery.

    Good luck.

Yep, that is what I was seeing. I really think people don't take the time to study up on nutrition and have no concept of the nutritional value of each food. So many people cannot read and understand how to read a label.

    A challenge

Good suggestions. I can make the meatballs really tiny and they won't notice if I don't take more than a couple.

    Pain

It's OK today. May be gas. What is funny right now. I usually drink Atkins shakes and have no problem at all. Yesterday and today I added a scoop of Protein powder to it. It was a bit thick so I added some Water. I can hardly drink a swallow or two. It doesn't seem any thicker than the usual shake but I'm having to force it in. I'm going to put it away and have more later. I like adding the protein because it adds 22 g. protein to the 15 already in the drink.

    Pain

Last night I tried my first food. I had a quarter cup of ricotta. I ate very slowly. Since then, through this morning, I have a pain in my back just to the left of my right 'wing'. Anybody else experience this? Is it something I shold be concerned about?
  15. Rosebud2

    I can't believe it

Tonight I dished out 1/4 of ricotta cheese. Even in my smallest dish it looked lost sitting there. Pre surgery that would not have filled my tooth. I looked at it and thought to myself that no way is this going to be enough for me. You know what? I think it was too much. I love the sleeve.
  16. Or he might be making too big of a bougie and his patients can eat too much.

    Pain

It is still there. I only had a couple of teaspoons of yogurt and some shakes today.

Do you see the latest someone is selling - spaghetti in a bread bowl. The spaghetti wasn't enough?

    Super Size Me/Documentary

When I was a child, we were taught nutrition in school. We were taught a lot of useful things too. How to behave on an interview and how to write a resume. Manners. A lot of kids have no clue because they don't come from homes where it is taught.

I'm so sorry you had complications. I hope you are feeling a lot better now. You can use this as a reference. http://www.hopkinsbayview.org/bariatrics/docs/nutrition_sleeve.pdf

    Post Op diet

You eat Pasta for dinner every night? I'm one who cannot lose with carbs. Your entire diet seems to be pretty high carb. The formula I've seen was 60 grams Protein and less than 30 carbs a day and about 800 calories. I'm sure someone else will know exactly.

    Since you asked...

You have to reply back and forth several times to see it. Annoying.

    Oo-oo-oo

Why did mine feel so thick? It really fought me to get it off.
  25. The surgery here in my hometown would have cost over $21,000 and they had little to no VSG experience at any of the local hospitals.
