Hi Banded the 15th May 2009. weighed 308lbs 1st fill - 8th Oct 2009 2nd fill - 3rd Dec 2009 total lost to date - 44lbs After the opp the shoulder pain was intense but didn't stay long. Once I had the fills the pain reoccured & frequently. It became unbearable & I started having pain in my left arm & it felt numb. So I thought this was heart related & went for test etc. Turned out it was all related to the left shoulder pain. I had accupunture & a chinese massage (mostly bet. the left shoulder blade) once a week. WOW what a relief. I see him once a month now. Eating too much or not chewing properly does affect the shoulder. So I try hard not to. Also exercise helps relieve the pain...guess it helps with circulation etc. Still happy I got the band. Taking it one step at a time. Weight loss:thumbup: and pain:thumbdown:

I never had hectic pains...just a lil discomfort & Tender around the incisions. Obviously when getting up from bed or sitting I felt more discomfort. It's like muscle pain. Today is 5days post-op & I feel okay. Everything seems to be going great.

Looking for a (Lap Band) Dr in South Africa
FDS replied to thiyekhile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey, Got banded last week Friday, 15 May 2009. Well I'm in the recovery period so I'm taking it easy. Following the liquid diet & walking everyday. Don't feel pain...just got blue marks on me tummy. Went to the Doc today to remove the plasters. I think everyone's body will react diff to the band. Hopefully I lose a lot more than 35kgs. I see the band as a tool. So if I follow a reasonable diet & join the gym (Doc recommended a personal trainer) I think it'll turn out fab. Got to change my lifestyle lol & I'm so use to being well a "slob" Total cost R75000 You getting banded soon? -

Linseed/Flexseed oil apparently helps with the hair loss. Also take a Multivitamin. link to articleNews - Medical: Gastric band op: A good choice?

The doctor told me I should walk & take it easy. What I want to know is how much walking should I be doing? 5mins or 10mins three time a day? what would you guys recommend? Obviously I should be comfortable but I want some sort of guideline.

23yrs old, currently weigh 140kg & I am 1.77m tall. Insulin resistant with a family history of diabetes. :-) Got banded two days ago at Bedford Gardens with Dr Sofianos, 15 May 2009 @ 14:30 it took 66mins & I was out. Went for the x-ray to see if everything was cool immediately after surgery & then went to the ward to rest. They put me on a drip because I was not allowed to eat anything. I was given two injections; a pain-killer for the discomfort & one to prevent nausea. Nurses were extremely helpful as I struggled to move & get up to go to the loo. The discomfort was bearable. Feet got cold @ one stage but they had a contraption (sort of like a boot) that pumps air into it essentially massaging my legs for circulation. Slept well. Woke up & told myself I got to get up & walk around. Was okay lol definitely not a walk in the park. Got discharged yesterday @ 10:30. Doc told me to take it easy, to see him next week Saturday to examine the incisions & to follow a nutritional liquid diet (clear soup) & plenty water only. He didn't tell me how much though but reading the "post op diet" on this site enlightened me. Total cost so far: ZAR75000 (expensive yes, but I worked out I spent the same amount of money for 3yrs prior to this; following diet plans, taking pills & injections that I just gave up on) So far: Stomach feels a little bloated ( I was told it is normal-gas that gets trapped during the procedure will disappear after 2-3days) Passing wind is uncomfortable. Laying down now but also get up to sit for short periods of time. Notice how intense the change in position is on the body. Left side - under breast particularly tender. Throat hurts coz of pipe during procedure. Taking the pain killers & Flu medication. Doc has told me to continue with the flu meds & I should not worry. I do have muscle pain/tension - shoulders. Think its got to do with circulation. The plan - liquid diet: I take 2sips of water every 30mins. A cup of runny pronutro(wheat free) with milk for breakfast, a cup of protein shake (has a lot of nutrients) for lunch & it's a cup of clear soup for supper. Stretching as much I can & doing a few breathing exercises with light coughs. Remember this from a previous operation (on my bladder), physiotherapist forced me to cough lol so brutal. After I "eat" I do feel a little discomfort. Sort of like indigestion. Think I just got to walk it off. So far so good. I am excited to becoming a better version of myself. FDS South Africa
