  1. TY, beachgirl. I've been trying to find out the symptoms of a slipped band for a while. I'll be banded in 5 days. So many questions!
  2. I'm getting banded on the 29th. I'm sooo excited too! A little nervous, but WOW...can you imagine how different our lives will be?!
  3. I wonder if I can remember how to ride a bike?? Wow...never thought I'd do that again!
  4. According to my insurance company, I must see my dietician 6 times over a 6 month period. I am going in for my fourth and have only lost about 12 pounds. I think I am so nervous that I'm actually sabotaging my progress! The surgery itself does not scare me. The thought of putting myself/my health first is so foreign and feels frightening. I have 2 toddlers and the need to get back to my career. I've been a stay at home mother for almost 3 years. So many changes at once! Can someone please tell me if they have had a similar experience or know how to balance all of these nerve wracking issues.
  5. I can't tell you how helpful that advice is, Angie. My dietitian has mentioned making small changes as you said, but the appointments are so quick and I was never really sure if I had done what they would consider "enough." I have also cut out my soda (not an easy one!), learned to eat at the table rather than the TV (most of the time), and add a small breakfast to my diet rather than skip the meal. I suppose baby steps may be the way to get there. I do worry that the 10 day liquid diet is going to hit me like a ton of bricks, though! I'm crossing my fingers and trying to replace a meal with a shake here & there. We'll see! Thanks for the info!
  6. Thank you, plain. You're right...I know, but it definitely helps to hear it!

    Diet before surgery

I haven't had to do it yet myself, but my father had himself banded back in April. His surgeon called for 10 days of a "liquid diet." It included 4 protein shakes (Atkins, Boost, or anything low in carbs), some cottage cheese, jello, broth, lots of water. He was able to shed 30 pounds in those 10 days and said he kept himself very busy!
  8. :grouphug:I have had my initial consultation as well as a few other appointments. I have read so much of the information available, but I think I really need to hear from everday people who have had the procedure done. I would like someone other than a "promoter" of the surgery to answer my questions before I leap! Would any of you mind sharing your experiences (good and bad) with me? Much appreciated! Thanks, Laurie
  9. Well, I'm hearing different things from people who have different doctors as to the "diet" which needs to be followed. I am worried that I am going to learn what to and not to eat the hard way! I was told only 1/4 cup of food at a time, only 3 meals a day with absolutely no snacking, and that whole grains may not be tolerated by some people. Also, what would you say is your daily caloric intake? I don't understand how one can get enough calories from a 1/4 cup of protein and veggies only 3 times a day. I'm also wondering about the not drinking with food thing. Is it because it will make you sick or just that it washes the food through? I do apologize if some of my questions seem silly. I have only gone to a seminar, had my initial consultation with the surgeon, and an appointment with the dietician. I suppose I have a lot to learn. Thank you all for helping me out!
