    Pregnant!

I just (like JUST) found out that I am pregnant! I have not told anyone but my husband so far. I won't tell family until the end of the 1st trimester. It's my first pregnancy and I am terrified that something will go wrong. One thing I've been reading is that there is an increased chance of having to have a C-section if you've had WLS. Can anyone tell me if that was their experience? Anything else I should know? I am six years out since the surgery so I am pretty comfortable with getting enough to eat. I am just trying to make really good decisions as far as WHAT to eat. I haven't had morning sickness *yet* not sure how bad that will be... Anyone who could share their pregnancy stories with me, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Pregnant!

Sadly I lost my baby at the end of November. Trying again but it has been rough. Luckily my doctor does not think my surgery contributed in any way to the miscarriage. Thank you to everyone who gave me support and advice. I appreciate it so much.
  3. I have been away for a little bit. Glad to be back!

    Pregnant!

C-Sections have been a thing in my family so I am pretty resigned to the fact that I will likely need one. I am glad to hear that you made it through. I appreciate the info!

    Need Advise

I just spoke with my OBGYN. My surgeon is in a different city now. I should probably talk with a bariatric surgeon in town though...

    Need Advise

When my husband and I first started trying to conceive, I spoke to my OBGYN and he told me that there is not much to be concerned about after WLS. Obviously getting really good nutrition and taking extra prenatal vitamins are important and I would definitely discuss those topics. He told me the main thing he wants to avoid is for me to freak out because I will gain a little weight.
  7. Six years out, and my stomach still hates any kind of sugary drink. Sadly Pumpkin Spice Lattes qualify. Wondering where a sugar free version of this fall treat might be found...?

  8. My mother had roux en y bypass surgery on Monday July 20. She is doing awesome and has very little pain. I am so happy for her.

  9. I'm feeling sassy today. Look out!

Go for it... You deserve all of the sass you want.

  10. So my Mom is having roux en y gastric bypass Monday July 20. I am so excited for her! But I am also super nervous. How can I be worried when my own surgery was so successful? Praying that the next few weeks go quickly and everything turns out well.

  11. I need about 10 more hours of sleep. Unfortunately my boss frowns on napping under the desk...

  12. You know, I think it's taught me a lot about spices and flavor combinations that make my food taste incredible without making them bad choices. Also, just because we had WLS doesn't mean we can't enjoy cooking and food, we just have to adjust for our new lifestyles.
  13. Egg Face (online blogger) has the very best recipes. Her crockpot green chili carnitas is an all time favorite recipe that I make for big family get togethers.
  14. Had a hungry day yesterday and snacked more than I should have. Today is all about getting back on track. No grazing!

  15. Pay day as an adult is depressing- 1 minute of Yay! then the brick wall of realizing all that beautiful money has to pay bills and buy groceries. Boo.

    Oh happy day!

Congratulations!!! Well done. A happy dance was definitely in order.
  18. At my smallest after surgery I'd lost half of my body weight. I gained some back over time and I'm steadily losing back to that. You can lose more than 1/3.
  19. YES. All the time before the surgery, even a couple of times after. But it gets easy after surgery because you CAN'T eat that stuff. Then your taste buds change, and you start to enjoy the healthier stuff. It's not always an easy process but I am so glad I went through it and I have yet to meet anyone who's had bypass who wishes they hadn't. Hang in there, it really does get easier.

    Why did you choose bypasd?

Sleeve was not an option for me, but I chose bypass over lap-band because of the risk of complications associated with lap-band. My MOM is having bypass next month and she chose bypass over sleeve for two reasons. 1) Studies have shown patients with Type II Diabetes who have bypass get rid of the diabetes faster than those who have sleeve. 2) Dumping when you eat something that is too sugary or greasing doesn't appear to happen with the sleeve and she wants to use it as an incentive to keep from 'cheating'. I will say that I have two relatives who've had the sleeve. My cousin has lost over 100 pounds and is doing well. My uncle who first had a failed lap-band, then revised to a sleeve, has not had significant weight loss and eats as bad as ever. I think it's a good tool, but I think it requires commitment. I hope that helps.

    I'm needing some encouragement...help

Also, I just wanted to point out that even though you've gained and it feels horrible, you have still done so well! Look at how much smaller you STILL are. Congratulations on finding a wonderful husband. I wish you the best!

    I'm needing some encouragement...help

This may or may not be something you would be interested in, but I am in a similar place. Struggling to make good decisions, allowing old habits to rear their ugly heads (candy all the time!). I started Ideal Protein at the end of May and one month in, I've lost over 10 pounds. I am slowly but surely getting back on track. IP helps me because it is high protein, encourages taking all the right Vitamins, and has me drinking Water again vs. diet soda. I thought it would be difficult but it has been a blessing. I feel amazing and I feel in control again. If at all possible for you, I would highly recommend it.
  23. How can it be Thursday??? I had so many beautiful plans to get caught up at work and it has NOT happened.

I am envious! I took a working 'lunch' and will likely be here after 5pm tonight. Oh well, it's a good thing I really love this job.

    Hair Loss

Vitamins are protein are your best defense against hair loss. It's normal, it DOES stop after the first year or so, and biotin will help. Congratulations on being 50 #'s down!

At work. It's getting to be that time of year that everyone turns the AC to deep freeze. For example today it is supposed to be around 96 degrees outside but I am wearing a jacket over my shirt so that I don't freeze.
