    July 2006 Band Crew

I'm hoping someone will clear that up for both of us b/c I am confused as well! If your diet is liquid (like cream soup or jello) do you have to wait to drink water 30 minutes before and after drinking the soup? That doesn't make sense, does it? But I was wondering the same thing. And I was also wondering if way down the line when I am on a "normal" diet, can I not have soup with my meal at all? I guess not if I am to avoid liquids with meals. I just assumed they meant liquids as in something you drink in a glass, but what if your meal is stew or some type of meat with a lot of broth? Any advice from anyone out there about clearing this up?:help: Thanks NatesMommy for bringing it up - you're not crazy or if you are then count me in!

    July 2006 Band Crew

To KMO - I was banded Wednesday and yesterday sucked. But today is better. Ice packs help tremendously, especially at port site (or whatever is hurting around the big incision. Anyway - I have had no problem with nausea (thank God!), but doing only tiny amount of clear liquids for first 24 hours (just sipping tiniest sips ever - about 1/4 cup an hour). Yesterday moved to full liquids and had no problems - but still tiny amounts. Now not to say I'm not hungry, I still feel like I want a big pizza or something - but I am so scared to vomit or feel more pain I won't do it. I am going to follow this diet to a T - which for me is liquids 2 weeks then pureed foods 2 weeks, and so on and so on - Slept OK last night but getting out of the bed in the morning is a killer. Once up and around I feel much better. I have been walking around my house alot - when I sit still is when I hurt. I hope to keep up with all of you banded this week so we can check progress. I'm still wondering of I can use a heating pad today - or if ice only. I will call doc to ask. Off to have my carnation instant breakfast and chew up some more vitamins (argh.) Working hard at it, Marie

    July 2006 Band Crew

I was banded yesterday by a surgeon in Shreveport LA. I was OK last night but hurt like an SOB today, especially at the port site. Dr is giving me stronger meds to get through. I haven't felt nauseous at all and doing good with tiny amounts of clear liquids, but this morning I had carnation instant Breakfast and it tasted like heaven. One big problem is crushing my regular meds (for high BP) , but hopefully I won't be on them for long!! I am pretty hungry and I have never seen so many commercials for steak houses and sub shops in my life than I have in the past 24 hours - but I'm hanging in there! Good luck to all July newbies! I hope to stay in touch with ya'll and keep up with progress. Marie Couple of questions: Ice is helping but what about heat for pain at port site? Is anyone else having pain not controlled by hydrocodone? Anyone else being driven kuukuu by a smothering mother? haha! (she is literally following me around with cups of liquid and trying to put them in my mouth - argh!!!)

    Newbie to the boards

I am a newbie to the board as well. I haven't been banded yet but after my PCP sends over his reports I should be good to go - definetely by end of July. I have gotten some great food ideas so far and have a little better idea of what to expect. My doc wants clear liquids 2 days, full liquids 2 weeks, mushies 2 weeks, then very soft foods for 2 weeks. One thing that seems different is that my doc's plan will have me eating 1/4 - 1/2 cup total for meals at 6 weeks out. I have seen several posts about eating 1 whole cup total for meals. By week six I am supposed to have 1 oz protein and 1 oz carb 6x a day. Does this seem like enough? I plan to really watch my protein and make sure I eat very healthy - just wondering about quantity. After I go through my 6 week strict phase - about how much will be one meal?

    Bye-bye Star!

If they were going to get rid of anyone it should have been Joy Behar! She is so mean and bitter towards other women. I think she is jealous and rude and I can barely even watch because of her. I can't stand people who have to put other people down to make themselves feel better. Why do ya'll think Star had GB and not the band? Just curious!
