amar63 replied to katwmn63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on a Cpap and I did not notice any problems with the pain meds, but I only took 2 for one day and then switched to Advil. I hope that helps! Misty -
hurts to take a deep breath
amar63 replied to katwmn63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Monday a week ago (7/6) and I am alot like you ..shallow breathing, sleep apnea etc... I had the same problem and it scared me so I called the doctor and he said sometimes that feeling takes up to 10 days to go away. By Sunday (7 days from surgery) it was completely gone, and the "air" that was trapped in my shoulders also seemed to dissapate. Hope you feel better soon. -
No words of wisdom --just congratulations!!!!! Misty

Hi everyone, I see my surgeon today for our first meeting, and have already seen the pysch and the nutritionist. Were there any questions you WISHED you had asked before surgery or ones that must be asked?? Excited and nervous. Thanks in advance. Misty:unsure:

For those of you in Greenville, who did your banding?? I am looking for a surgeon now.

I found one center that does the Lapband and Bypass with an emphasis on the Bypass I think. Does anyone know of any other surgeons in this area that do the Lapband? Or have been banded in this area?? I did see a Dr David Anderson, but I am not familiar and he is listed as a general, not bariatric surgeon. Any thoughts??? Misty

I am really considering this as I am miserable. My husband just thinks it's a will power issue and if I only eat good veggies/ fruit ect and walk more that I can just lose the weight on my own. Well the last 4 diets have proved that I haven't been able too..... Has anyone else encountered this with their spouse and how did you get past it. I know I can't do this without him on board. I really want and need his support. Thanks! Misty

Not sure spouse is on board....

Thank you for sharing.... Blessings, Misty -
Hi everyone, Thanks for the previous advice on talking with spouse, it was helpful! I am wondering what is the rate of speed (ball park as I know everyone is different) that you start losing once you are banded. I want to make sure my expectations are in-line. I have read tons of posts but now, I have almost confused myself. Do you lose starting from Surgery to the first fill? Or does the weight loss not really start until the 3rd or 4th fill and are the fills done monthly or every 6 wks or does that depend on the doctor? Again trying to nail down what to expect. Thanks in advance you guys are great!!! Misty

RE: My husband made me cry the other day he told me "so your just giving up on our marriage"? He went over the whole statistics how relationships change after WLS. A while back (couple of years ago) my husband jokingly made a similar comment about me losing weight and then I'd be shopping around for some kind of studly do-right guy. Which is ridiculous as he knows my "type". But his insecurity was coming out. I just assured him that I had gone that route once (I was married before) and he was horrible and expected me to be a barbie doll trophy and became very cruel if I gained any weight. Whereas my husband now loves me whether I am thick or thin. And not only do I love him but I am loyal to that. I am not interested in a man (or anyone else) who only values me when I am thin! We are more than our weight or lack of. Soooo, to address your hurt and concern, even though what he said merely reflected his concern for himself, it does need to be addressed or I fear he will undermine your efforts (even if it's unconsciencly). Assure him that you love him, your goals in losing weight are not merely vainty reasons but for HEALTH and that if he truly wants you healthly and around to BE his wife, he needs to consider this and get on board. My husband and I have been talking more about this too and his fears now are more about the surgery and after effects and the "banded for life" time frame. So he is opening up more and more on the subject. He also agreed to go to the seminar with me on the 28th!!! So that is a victory. I'll be praying for you and for him. Hang in there. -
Hi I am new to this and seriously considering it... does anyone know of a surgeon in the Greenville, sC area?? Thanks!!

Not sure spouse is on board....
amar63 replied to amar63's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
UPDATE: We did speak and I still won't say he is totally on board, but he is being supportive. He is like "I really think if you put your mind to it you could do it (lose all the weight) by yourself. But if this is really what you want and think this will work, then I support you." Again, it's not that I can't do this alone and most likely would find a way...but it will be easier with his support and with the kids... So he is coming around and doing some of his own research. Which I am so proud of. Thanks for listening and for the advice. I wonder if there is anyone out there that did this and then HATED that they did it???? Have a good weekend, Misty -

Thanks... I think part of it is he's scared of the surgery and any side effects. And the unknown part. I know he loves me and ultimately is supportive --I have an appt scheduled to see a surgeon, I'm just praying he will come along. It's after work hours so I"m hopeful. But right now he is not happy and doesn't want to talk about it.
