  1. I had surgery on 9/2/09 and I'm down 86 pounds! I had Dr. Robinson from B&W and although it's been challenging, I'm happy with the results from the band. Other than getting healthy, my MAIN motivation for getting the band was to finally conceive after 5 years of trying. IT WORKED!! I'm now 6 1/2 weeks pregnant!! My question is, do I HAVE to get completely unfilled? I know Dr. R wants patients to wait to get pregnant, but it was unexpected (but we're beyond THRILLED)!! Anyone have any experience with this??
  2. One of my main reasons for the surgery is to impact our (completely unexplained) infertility. For you ladies that are pregnant, had your AF changed post op? I used to be 28 days like clockwork...and I'm late. AF was supposed to come on Thursday and so far no sign. Is it hormones or could it possibly be that I'm pregnant??? I really don't want to get my hopes up OR buy expensive tests if I'll just be disappointed again. Although it would be unplanned, we were going to start trying in March anyway. BUT if you all have experienced similar changes, I'll stop getting my hopes up and just wait for the inevitable TOM. Help and thank you!!

    Late periods, anyone?

So glad I found this!! I used to be 28 days like clockwork...and I'm 3 days late.

Things I can do since my lap band...

I'm TOTALLY with you!! I'm down 48 pounds and no one has said a THING!! People that know that I had surgery make comments, but other co-workers? Not a PEEP!!

So I'm now 3 weeks and 1 day out of surgery! I've been bad about posting, but have loved to read all about what everyone's been doing! I'm on week 2 of the mushies and so far, so good! My main problem is that I don't really "feel" banded. Is that just because I haven't had a fill yet? I get my first fill on 10/19. I've been SUPER strict on all phases of the diet (pre-op, liquids now mushies) and haven't cheated but I don't really feel full. Then again, I don't really feel hungry either. The only thing restricting how much & what kind of food I'm eating is the diet instructions. Should I feel different? I lost 2-3 pounds per day (I know I probably should stop weighing every day, but bad habits die hard!) for the liquid phase but not much since then. In fact, I've been flat for the last 5 days. Is this normal? Also, for those of you that have gotten fills, do you need to have an x-ray of the band after the fill? What's that appointment like? Although I'm happy with Dr. R and his staff at Brigham & Womens, I feel like I haven't gotten a lot of direction. Any advise would be great!!

    Sorry I've been MIA!

I have my in-laws in from Ireland as well as my mom up from Atlanta taking care of me so I haven't been on here in a bit. I'm 6 days post-op and so far so good. I was supposed to go back to work tomorrow, but I'm going to take the whole week. I'm scared to tell my manager, but he's been saying all along that he'd be supportive...we'll see! I'm sore at my port site, but the gas hasn't been too bad. I'm on Roxicet (TMI...that also means I'm on stool softeners, YUCK!). I've been trying to get out and about but I get pretty tired. How's everyone else doing?

Hope all is well with everyone! I'm 6 days out and so far so good. I'm trying to get out and about, although it's slow going. How's everyone else?!

Let us hear how you're feeling

I'm 6 days post-op and so far so good. I had to spend 1 night in the hospital, it wasn't too bad. I'm sore at my port site, but the gas hasn't been too bad. I'm on Roxicet (TMI...that also means I'm on stool softeners, YUCK!). I've been trying to get out and about but I get pretty tired. This whole process has been pretty surreal, but I'm glad to be almost 1/2 way through stage 2!

I'll keep you all in the loop!! I have my pre-op appt tomorrow...will it really take 3 hours? What do they do? I still haven't 100% decided I'm going to tell people at work. They just think I have in-laws coming into town! I suppose once the weight starts coming off, I'll come clean! Everyone I have told has been really supportive so far!

Amanda...not long now! Let us know how everything goes!! I can't believe that tomorrow I'll be 2 days away!! AAHH!! For all of you getting ready for your pre-op diets, have you found a shake that you like? I've found that the pre-op is NOT as bad as a lot of people say, best of luck!!

LOL....the best liver ever comment cracks me up!! I'm not sure why I'm so nervous about shrinking my liver. It's probably because I worked my ass off (no pun intended) to lose weight for my last weight check. The problem was I had sushi the night before and I was holding a lot of salt weight from the soy sauce. The nurse that checked me the day before I started my pre-op diet was a little gruff and she said that I really have to work to get down more pounds and that he wouldn't be happy. At that point, naked weight at home showed I was down about 20 pounds. Their scale showed me down 16 pounds. I felt really bad about myself when I left there. Since then I'm down another 9 pounds, so I hope I'm OK. They said I wouldn't need another weight check but I'm doing everything I can to get down. How is your post op diet doing? Any suggestions? Anything you wish you had with you days after surgery?

    Promises to myself...

I WILL stick to this diet. I WILL never again be afraid that I won't fit into a seat (be it on a plane or in Fenway Park!). I WILL never again be afraid that I will break a seat or that I need to be seated at a table instead of a booth because I won't fit. I WILL lean on my loving husband without bringing him down. I WILL be supportive of my husband in his own weight loss journey, recognizing that he needs to create a plan that works for him. I WILL ask for help when I'm doubting myself. I WILL lean on my supportive family and friends, recognizing that I won't have to go through this alone. I WILL do my best every single day, knowing that this is a long process. I WILL be proud of myself. I WILL put myself first by leaving work on time and ignoring negativity. I WILL not die early. I WILL not get diabetes. I WILL start a family when the time is right. I WILL be healthy and happy. I WILL no longer be a slave to the scale....it's not the numbers on the scale but how I feel. I WILL keep making promises to myself and will work hard to keep them. :blushing:

    The diet...ideas?

My first day was pure hell! After that meltdown, I've been pretty good. The biggest factor with my new outlook was finding a Protein shake that I liked. I'm doing the unjury shakes, and so far so good. I've been mostly using the chocolate flavor with either strawberry yogurt or milk. I've been using frozen strawberries instead of ice cubes and it tastes yummy. My other "go-to" recipe is the unflavored unjury shake with crystal lite. Any crystal lite is OK, but I like the fruit punch kind the best. I just tried the chicken soup flavor last night and that was also really good. Most likely, I'll do a mix of the unflavored/crystal lite and chicken soup for after surgery. Best of luck!!

One more question...has Dr. R ever not done surgery because of a fatty liver? I have not cheated on the pre-op at all, but don't know if that means I've shrunk my liver enough or not.

I'm getting banded on Sept 2nd...I can't even believe it's so close now! Dr. R is doing the surgery and I think I'm the first of the day. Anyone else getting banded on 9/2? Would love some input on what to expect on Wednesday and what I should bring the to hospital. I thought I'd have more interaction with Dr. R and the nutritionist, but I didn't even know Sari was gone until I hadn't heard back for a week. I'm not even sure if I'm spending the night at the hospital after surgery or not. Also, I've been using the unjury protein shakes with milk and/or yogurt...can I do that after surgery or can it really just be clear liquids only? I haven't done the support group meetings, do you find them helpful? When's the next meeting? Any input from you all would be appreciated!
