Thanks Tamara. You are right, I do have BCBS IL. They just seem to deny most everybody without even reviewing their records. It is crazy that they are allowed to do that. That is why I wanted to report them to the insurance commission of IL. I don't know how much good it would have done, though. Good Luck and keep me posted on your case.

Yes, my doctor's office called me and asked my permission to submit my case to Obesity Law. I was about to file a complaint with the insurance commissioner of IL when I got the call.
-
I used Obesity Law and was approved today. My surgeon payed for them, so It cost me nothing. I was denied in Feb.

I am currently going through the appeals process with BCBS of IL. Hopefully you will get approved on the first try. I have my fingers crossed for you. Good Luck!

I'm just wandering if any of you used Obesity Law to handle your denial, and if so, how was your experience?
-
I also had everything required and was denied by BCBS IL. I turned my paperwork over to Obesity Law, and hope they have better success than I did dealing with them.

HI! I live in San Antonio. I am currently going through the appeals process. I will have my surgery with Dr. Carcamo. Which doctor do you plan on using?

Congratulations on your surgery date!! -
Go to www.ObesityLaw.com and see what they say under FAQ. Hope that helps.

I was denied for the lap band, and my surgeons office called me and asked if I would give them my permission to send my file to Obesity Law. The website is ObesityLaw.com, but I was curious as to how many people had used them, and if they had success.

I have had nothing but T-R-O-U-B-L-E since I started dealing with BCBS of IL. Good Luck to you!

Anyone with BC/BS Illinois ever approved??

I guess that's not accross the board because I talked to the insurance person at my surgeon's office today to see if Obesity Law had accepted my case, and she said that they are amazed that that all of a sudden their BCBS TX and IL claims are being denied when they can't figure out why. She said that they have had a sudden increase in denials for authorizations that appear to meet criteria per BCBS policy. Oh, well. Maybe that means I will get approved on appeal. -

I think BCBS IL gives zero training to the people they hire, and they hire people with zero experience. The only training they receive is to say "It's not covered", and to deny everything. -

How can they not know why we don't meet criteria? When I worked for Tricare, doing the approvals for gastric bypass, we had to call the doctor's office right then, and explain why they did not meet; before the denial letter went out. I just can't understand how they say they don't know. They are unbelievable. -

Well, I am in the same boat as you guys. When I first looked into my coverage for lap band surgery with BCBS of IL I was very excited to find out that I met all requirements, and would have to pay a total of $35.00. My paperwork was submitted in January and I was denied in February. When I called the service rep really could not explain why I was denied. In my denial letter it just lists the policy and I meet all criteria. I was shocked!!! It's as if no one even looked at what was submitted. My doctor's office was shocked and have since turned in my paperwork to Obesity Law. They have not yet accepted my case, but I really hope I can get the denial overturned relatively soon. I can't believe all the problems people have with this insurance company. -
Well, I turned in everything in the policy required for the lap band, and after 4 weeks I was denied (in Feb). My doctor's office was shocked because I met all requirements. My doctor's office called me this week and said they wanted my permission to send my case to Obesity Law at no expense to me. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with Obesity Law. I'm just wandering what my chances are that the denial will be overturned. I hate BCBS of IL.
-
I do have appeals, but not sure how many and in what time frame. I was denied because they said I had not tried pharmological asistance. That is not even what the policy states! This is so crazy.

I have BCBS of IL and will be using Dr. Carcamo at the Nix. Several of my friends have used Dr. Wright with no complaints. Hope this helps.

Several people from my job used Dr.'s Wright and Carcamo @ the Nix. I am planning on using Dr. Carcamo. I have only heard good things about both.
