Who's Getting Banded in August???

I am Vicodin and Darvocet make me vomit. So my surgeon said I will just have to take Tylenol. I'm really nervous about that. Anybody else not have prescription pain meds post op? -
Thank you Roheryn. Rae, I'm getting banded by Dr. Carcamo. What about you?
-
Thanks guys. I appreciate the well wishes!

I actually started looking into it in 2001 when my, at that time, 2 year old was diagnosed with a rare disease and I had to quit work; which meant no health insurance. In 2005 I started a new job, met the requirements, went to the seminar, only to find out that the insurance company only covered a total of $3000 for WLS in a lifetime. That went out the window. I changed jobs in 2007 and submitted the info with my new insurance company. I was denied. My case was turned over to Obesity Law, and I was approved on July 29. I had an abnormal EKG on Friday, and will have an echo on Wed. So as long as that turns out ok, I will be banded on Aug 19, 2008.

My name is Gina, I'm a nurse and a single mom of 3; ages 16, 14, and 7. I live in San Antonio. I am scheduled to be banded by Dr. Carcamo at the Nix on August 19. I first started looking into weight loss surgery in 2001. I first tried to get approved in 2005. I changed jobs in 2007 and restarted the process with a different insurance company. I met all requirements but was denied. The denial was finally over turned and I now have a date. I'm glad to be getting this done before school starts.

gOOdbyefat: congratulations on your date!!!! I was told to eat no more than 20g of fat. What about you?

g00dbyefat: I will be getting banded by Dr. Carcamo at Nix Healthcare downtown. I am a nurse and have heard really good things about True Results. That is where I wanted to have my surgery, but by insurance company would not approve it there. I have lost 19lbs since June following Weight Watchers core program, but have started my Atkins preop diet today. I have completed all my preop testing, but have an appt with Dr. Carcamo a week from this Friday. How soon can you get a date after everything is completed? Please keep me posted on how you are doing. Hopefully I wont be too far behind you. gina

I'm approved and waiting for a date. Thanks for the list.

I am so sorry. I typed the wrong link. It is: www.obesitylaw.com . This should help.
-
If you go www.obesityhelp.com and look under FAQ, it address WLS exclusions. Hope this helps.

For those of you who were banded by Dr. Carcamo: How long did it take to banded after you got cleared by your PCP? Also, how did you do with the post op diet?
-
It did not cost me anything because my surgeon paid for it. I don't remeber how long it took for me to find out if they accepted my case, but it takes about 30 days for them to get your appeal info together, and then it took 3 weeks for my insurance company to make a decision. It was well worth the wait, and I felt better having someone else fight the appeal instead of me. We communiated throughout the process by email and by phone. I was very pleased with them.

I am approved!! Now I have to get a clearance from my PCP for surgery. That appointment is Aug 8. Wish me luck!

I found out yesterday that I was approved. I had to go through Obesity Law, but I got approved. So many people meet all the requirements, but BCBS IL continues to deny them. Is there some way of reporting them. They do not honor their own policy.
